  1. We recently had a presentation abt NASA and the Space Race on ASCENT....Cruise after ours had an expert on Underwater exploration. Sometimes you get sports, movies, lots of variety! Luck of the draw..unless it's an itin where they bring on a naturalist... What else do they offer on board? Are you able to walk..inside or outside? Is they gym up to date? How are the shops?
  2. Had nice ones on ASCENT AQ.. unlimited as they were small. some say if you can only have one, order the Lobster as an appetizer and then a regular other main course
  3. Cruise from hell! Hope a mild case..and you do not get it. In some cities they test municipal poop for Covid..oh my! We were sick right after ASCENT. really bad muscular pain..not Covid, maybe flu but we had the vax. .Then some on that ship had suspected Legionaires...Ships are germ incubators..like kiddie daycare! Hope all goes well!
  4. Off topic story: Some years ago we cruised on Royal C. to the .Mex Riviera .One stop was Acapulco where there had been ongoing gang wars. A few days before we stopped there, a tourist was shot and killed in the crossfire in the port area.. Our Captain sent a long letter about port safety etc, but left the choice of getting off to indiv cruisers. We went ahead with our Royal C excursion to a beach resort. (beautiful property with water views, sumptuos lunch , very upscale, great service) Felt like the rich and famoymys for the day! BUT, our tour was escorted by a Security Van ( the "gun car"), and we passed through double armed security check points to get there. The beach itself was off limits... rough water..and had soldiers along the perimeter with guns and bullet belts. We felt secure there, and coming and going but grabbed a few gifts at Port and hurried back to our ship.. At this point in our lives we are not looking for adventure tourism..just a nice cruise! Prayers for Haiti!
  5. from online article: Ariel Henry became Haiti’s acting leader in July 2021 when Colombian mercenaries assassinated the country’s president, Jovenel Moise. Henry’s government was widely viewed as corrupt and also illegitimate because it repeatedly failed to hold elections. Haiti has not had an election since 2016. Under the 74-year-old’s rule, gangs seized control of much of the country and regularly terrorised civilians, cutting off food and fuel supplies and blocking roads. Armed criminals now control 80% of the capital, Port Au Prince. Nearly half the population – or 4.35 million Haitians – regularly go hungry. ( The Guardian) As usual the Haitian people suffer no matter who runs things!
  6. maybe the workers are staying home!

  8. They can't even make simple change at the store without help from a machine, esp if you add an extra quarter to cover part of the coin change! The new math is quite odd but is geared to problem solving over simple math/arithmetic. My grandson does it all quickly in his head but has to write out how he got the answer.. I worked as a p/t proofreader in college. Love to find errors in print and online books.. all of which have professional editors on staff and maybe spell check.
  9. what's there now? when we sailed yrs ago..they had the coffee set up but kids would take the area over as an indoor playground..not very relaxing! ****** Hope OP is doing well!
  10. interesting...is that an add on rider for an extra charge?. .Wonder what is included in crisis response...?
  11. interesting itin and alternate cruise line/ ship....Not familiar with it at all but will be interesting like Jim's Ponant journey!
  12. nowhere is safe, apparently! we have a SV booked on APEX! just a loser lottery!
  13. There are many new watch choices and some disc/ sales..in quite a few of the stores, but I do not know what they stock. Seems you are looking for very hi end..same prices as a new car! the " Mankind" mens boutique on the way to EDEN has increased its selection as well...not for investment but enjoyment...? dh bought me a very pretty gold and crystal watch for my special birthday..on ASCENT..Not in the Rolex caliber but I love it....They sized it perfectly. And as luck would have it, I just found a great necklace to go with it!
  14. How many on this thread have an itin stopping at Labadee? I think it was just a few..not me! As things remain in flux ...itin may change... another fun day at Sea!
  15. oh my.. looks good but heavy on carbs. Good you ditched the bread. The salad is more my style for lunch.. looks very fresh. I am a type 2 Diabetic so carbs are not my friends ...
  16. We always booked at the Refundable rate..b/c you never know what one's situation could be so far into the future..The. Cruise line held our deposit for a long period..no interest given to us. The Refundable fare was a reasonable amount higher than the non- ref...so it was worth it to us. BUT the Refundable Fares have now skyrocketed to a point where we are left with no realistic option than the Non Refundable fare. So we need to compensate with upgraded trvl insurance which for us is key! Side point..if we use a Credit Card that gives good trvl insurance, we lose out in getting dbl points for final payment from our BOA Royal card..
  17. we went to a " free" lecture on how to boost one's immunity.. Full room (all.of us dupes) It was interesting at first, til they started an aggressive pitch to sell expensive subscriptions for seaweed pills..Not what we were looking for.. As most of us got up to leave, they got VERY NASTY saying we wasted their time. Takes nerve!
  18. property is not looking bad ..esp with the parking deal! Happy Sail Away tom!
  19. Well worth the cost...we booked it online with a small discount, pre cruise..included grats... Great service, exceptionally good food..was fun to view the open kitchen and great wake views( Ascent)
