  1. Lots of food......but it is nice to have a food oriented thread.. in contrast to ones that focus more on bars and drinking., I enjoy a cocktail or two but my type 2 and meds require strict control. How's your mom doing? Is she happy with the ship.?
  2. Thanks for a very well written, organized and informative review.. what was Guadaloupe like? Can you post a few pics? While we know this line/ ship is not a good fit for us..it is fun to hear how things are done on other lines!
  3. There are many one way contracts. ..car rentals, cable tv, , buying a new house or condo from builder/ developer in Fl.. no changes allowed . Fairness and justice are on the side of OP who seems to be nice about it.. he has no choice! Note: An adhesion contract is a legal agreement that is drafted by one party, but not the other. This means that the party signing the agreement had no chance to bargain for the agreement's terms. Instead, it is a “take it or leave it” situation. Only thing OP could do is set the amount of the bid. I am so happy we do not bid..and try to stick with what we initially booked.
  4. good idea.. shorter cruise 2 cabins! stuffing 4 into one room just does not seem like fun....even if X is now allowing it. I believe there are overall capacity limits set by # of life boats Good luck!
  5. very hearty breakfast.. woukd keep.me til late afternoon snack! looks good
  6. forget all of us real or wannabe lawyers dealing with a one way contract.. OP got a raw deal..no good faith there! Happy Sails All!
  7. Eclipse is S Class so older, but still modern S Class like Solstice..Millie is M Class. Eclipse is a longer cruise with a great itin compared to BEYOND itin.. our least fav ports.. Fav ports are included on ECLIPSE. We were recently on Tortola and St Kitts with excursion to NEVIS on Ascent...Amazing! Other ports are also excellent BEYOND was very nice..but lots of creaking reports..no way to know if u will be lucky or unlucky. I would grab an AQ on Eclipse and try a move up if you want..but we love BLU.. see what others post!
  8. Sometimes you win if prices go way up which has usually been the case for us.... At the future cruise desk on ASCENT, Sr rep could not beat our already booked cruise deals, and was quite impressed with our prices, inclusions, OBC etc. We book early! Sometimes you lose when prices drop. Only way to avoid that is to book the Refundable fare .usually quite high! And after final..you really lose out! We did "win big" once when we booked last minute to replace a cancelled cruise (medical) and got a primo cabin at a great fare! I do think the title of this thread is unfair ..A better title is to warn that price drops after final payment will not be matched or something else!
  9. slippers we have received are usually terry cloth open toe..very narrow
  10. " cancel Offer"..yes, that is clearly stated. But what about after ACCEPTANCE by boh parties. It seems so basic.."Offer and Aceptance" = a meeting of the minds = a deal...but obviously not for X!
  11. Glad you mentioned the open balc sliders...Leaving one's slider door open affects other cabins by creating a high pitch whirring noise that can often be heard under other cabin doors on the hallway.. Sometimes placing a towel or blanket at the cabin door helps, but not always. We have experienced ship staff going along affected hallways to remind folks to keep the sliders closed other than when in use. -----------‐------- As to 4 in a reg size cabin..very tight for clothes and shoe storage, bathroom/ shower use ,(esp with 2 teen girls) and in general moving about. In some ships the Concierge Cabin is a bit larger or there may be family staterooms available. What ships have you sailed on where 4 in a reg cabin was a comfortable fit? A longer cruise as you describe is a long time to be crammed in!
  12. it is very large window..Maybe it will not be an issue when closed.. Just like being inside a house except not under your control.. You would probaby close your windows at home on a windy, rainy day. .On a ship there is also sometimes wind from movement
  13. Pls dont say it was AI .I enjoyed the literary diversion but dislike AI or robots of any kind!
  14. huh? not getting this.. We drive Hyundais in NY and a big KIA in Fl....Had a Lincoln Navigator as a recent rental.. ugh! Could not turn it in fast enough! We pay what we think is fair price.. Issue here is that a move up bid was accepted, bidder was notified they won the bid, and their credit card was charged and then POOF!
  15. Happy St Pats Day! will they serve corned beef and cabbage?
  16. on Ascent they have lits of activity in several venues every night.... some start around 10 pm and go late!
  17. we do it at the terminal..on Ascent they took it on line just before we were sent on to the ship
  18. smart to wait..enjoy the cruise.. find out carefully who actually got that room if possible, ...and also quietly see if anyone on board had their hands in this .. Meanwhile this "bad for X " PR thread..will probably stay prominent on Cruise Critic. Not sure if it has reached other Soc media as I only read and post here abt cruises! They lose lots of goodwill by doing things like this..although it seems like a very unique " reneg"
  19. I only used the car purchase as an example.. apples to oranges I can accept as long as no lemons!. I am aware that NY law would be on my side...Truth is we have dealt with this car dealership as long as we have patronized X and would never expect a reneg.. There's a well known car sales co in Fl that has trouble delivering post purchase clear titles .... maybe they trained with X.. Incredible OP has not heard from X higher up in mgmnt! Hope to hear a happy update but not sure we will.. (The poor cruiser whose toilet spewed excrement on him was denied a diff stateroom..so not much concern with treating all their guests like Celebrities.....a former PR tag line!
  20. I put a deposit on a car yesterday....signed the purchase contract, and filled out all forms for the regis, financing etc And started the ins process. If I received a call saying "sorry..no can do" I would go nuts!
  21. yup.. here's a similar though less serious story, but it does show how staff can ruin things. We booked Fine Cut on our first EDGE cruise. It was. pre paid on our cred card months before the res date. We selected our usual 6 p.m.early time.. to fit my dietary req and to avoid noise coming up from the Martini Bar area We stopped in a day ahead just before dinner time to re- confirm..A nasty, pompous maitre d said.. We have switched you to 8 p.m. to give you a better experience..total bs.. No notice no nothing.. We said if he could not restore our res time, just cancel our res. He actually refused. As guests were now lining up, I was quite mortified but decided to match his attitude.. and refused to budge from the front of his podium. ..Eventually he relented and cancelled our res but made my husb go back to our room to get the paperwork...We have .no idea who got our res or why this was such a big deal to cancel. . We went to Guest Rel next day and cancelled ALL our specialty dining and told them why.. This also happened to others at EDEN...overbooked....split up families to diff times etc All I can say abt OPs situation is that IT REALLY stinks ...
  22. and ours was not a sofa bed or flip bed, .more like a low to ground "divan"
  23. catching up.. starting with wedge salad, branzino, and fhe lamb. all my favs. I would have added the squash soup..Celeb has great soup..not too salty Overall .food looks great.. nice choices and decent portions. . I usually skip carbs (bread, rice, potato) and request extra veggies...how have they been.? I also skip dessert unless it's lo carb.... Sounds like u snd mom are enjoying the cruise.. sleep well!
  24. wow.. talk about a weasel reneg! Once they acceped your bid and charged the credit card, that should have sealed the deal .What a display of bad faith! .They should now comp your entire cruise as part of their "apology package", plus mega OBC. Enjoy your cruise!
