  1. I wish it was easier for Canadian solos to check. I find it frustrating too.
  2. We enjoy port days too as don’t always get off the ship. I’ve had feet issues for many years making it difficult to walk-however, with the pandemic, we got a treadmill and I slowly started walking on it. Luckily, it has helped. HAL has been a very good fit for elderly or disabled passengers for many years. They’re also good for any generation unless they like to party-since we started on HAL in 2008 where the Crow’s Nest was rocking, it has really changed. Thankfully BBKings etc are available but I do miss the dancing in the Crow’s Nest. I’m so glad you and your wife enjoyed the ship and cruise. The staff are wonderful.
  3. lol! He only cruises because I “make him”. I remind him I “allow” him to fish all summer on our boat but I prefer a cruise ship! We’ve done a lot of cruises but I want more. Time will tell. He just thinks 35-50 days are too long but I said you won’t know until you try!
  4. I totally agree but have to get hubby on board. I actually told him if he won’t go to the SP tell me so I can save to go solo or find a friend if possible that can afford to go for a longer cruise.
  5. For my 65th I did 5 cruises that year, one on Celebrity in a suite and the rest on HAL. It was wonderful! I told my husband I want something special on my 70th so hope by then we feel comfortable enough for a cruise. We were supposed to do the 50 day cruise to the South Pacific but had to cancel. I suggested it would be a nice 70th gift to me on a long HAL cruise-we shall see!
  6. What a wonderful 60th! Neptune suites are a great way to celebrate. Enjoyed reading your review. We are still hesitant to cruise yet but I sure miss it (hubby not so much 😢)
  7. I do miss the old Crow’s nest when it was party time with dancing and a lot of fun.
  8. We have only had pretty minor claims over the years in our family and all paid promptly. It’s the very large ones I think is when insurance goes over your claim with a fine tooth comb. Thank you for posting your experience with Geo Blu-we are checking into various companies for a long cruise we hope to take next year and they are one of them.
  9. Thanks for responding. The big TA we’ve used in the past we get whomever we get unfortunately. Glad she’s sent it to you and yes, hope that continues!
  10. How did you manage to get the big TA to do that, that’s great. Most don’t. Did you ask about a Neptune or did they just say none were offered?
  11. Mechanical issues are, I think, within the control of the airlines. You should look under the Air Passenger Rights to see if you can claim expenses through that if WestJet or your insurance doesn’t help. I agree with the above poster.
  12. The one thing I regret on our Celebrity cruise was not going to Le Petite Chef. My husband thought it was too expensive but I think I would have loved it.
  13. It’s very disrespectful to be playing loud music on a balcony-so inconsiderate to others. Isn’t that why they make ear buds? Do they not realize or just don’t care how far that noise travels. Ugh.
  14. I totally agree, that’s what we said. We only started cruising in 2008 and in a Neptune suite. I’m sure if our first cruise was Celebrity we would have stayed with them.
  15. It’s funny because we felt like royalty (compared to Neptune suite guests) when escorted onto the ship into Michael’s Club where we could have any beverage while waiting for Luminae to open for lunch. Then we were escorted there and enjoyed a peaceful lunch. It certainly beats HAL for a first impression.
  16. Thanks for your review. We also miss the live music that used to be in the Ocean bar and watching the guests dance. I’m very sensitive to loud music and do not like music at the pool unless as background and very low. But what they think is background music isn’t to me-or hasn’t been in our experience.
  17. Does it indicate a Carnival ship will be there when you are-it’s very unusual for that to happen. Some times there’s another HAL ship but it’s very strange no other excursions are showing up. If nothing shows up before you leave regarding excursions, I’d check when on the ship at the excursion desk. Otherwise, when you arrive at HMC on shore there’s staff there (as far as I remember, it’s been a few years) that you can book if anything available.
  18. Unfortunately we had to cancel the 50 day South Pacific cruise which was leaving from Vancouver or San Diego.
  19. We will also be looking at alternate cruise lines or even all inclusive resorts to go to with our kids & grandkids in the future. It’s sad as I have been hooked on cruising since 2008 when we went on our first cruise in a Neptune suite on the Ryndam. Loved the small ship and in “those days” it was a great experience.
  20. We are 4* on HAL sailing mainly with them but have found the entertainment really lacking (except BB Kings). We found the one Celebrity cruise we did the entertainment was fantastic. Currently we have a long cruise booked for 2024 on the Koningsdam but that is refundable deposit. So, decisions, decisions! It’s why I enjoy reading everyone’s blogs or posts until we cruise again. I see you’re hooked on Celebrity suites now, awesome!! I do agree they beat HAL.
