  1. I saw and responded to this on FB yesterday. Let's see if I can copy and paste part of it anyway. Exciting #OceaniaCruises news – we’re thrilled to welcome celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis as our new Brand and Culinary Ambassador! Together with our culinary founding father, Jacques Pépin, Giada will co-chair our new Culinary Advisory Board, developing the next chapter in our foodie legacy. Read more on our blog and stay tuned for more updates on our Culinary Advisory Board soon – https://bit.ly/3xxf29O. Here’s to all the culinary and travel adventures ahead and the talented people that make them so memorable! Trying to figure out why they hired her. 18h Like Reply Patricia Lenhart Catherine Oliver De Laurentiis studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris with aspirations of becoming a pastry chef. After returning to the United States, she became a professional chef working in several Los Angeles restaurants, notably the Wolfgang Puck-owned Spago. 3h Like Reply Active Catherine Oliver Top Contributor LOL. Google is your friend also I didn't find any mention of her finishing a program, which I'm sure would have been if she had. Out of curiosity I looked and except for an executive chef position which she would never be qualified for, the other highest ranked position was line cook. And even that, without the family background, I can't imagine them hiring some like her- with minimal qualifications. I no longer watch cooking shows as they became if I may give my never humble opinion...just plain stupid. Did she actually have shows where she would cook an entire dish and have herself ant maybe another taste it? Honestly I see Oceania quite wisely preparing for the time when we boomers will have moved off ships and maybe died. They desperately need to get that younger blood and maybe that's how.
  2. And my husband doesn't get obsessed so that makes me even more obsessed 🙂
  3. I had it in Jacques a few years ago and it was the best I've ever had. BTW, I've done a search and can find no record of Giada actually finishing a culinary school. Or of actually cooking in any restaurant where she didn't have family connections. Just saying.
  4. When we were on a Norwegian coastal cruise all the souvenir type things were "made in China.' We've had better luck when traveling to check for little pieces of pottery beaded bracelets/necklaces. We have 'stuff' all over our house from travels that don't necessarily fall into the "souvenir" category but are great reminders of trips.
  5. I've said many times, if I'm on time I feel like I'm late.
  6. I will clways remember 25 or 30 years ago we were in Santiago, Chile, watching the changing of the card or some such. I noticed a bank across the square and wondered aloud if they would have an ATM. My darling husband, who worked ALL over the world, probably laughed. Well, sure enough they did. I seem to remember that some countries 'came to the party' before the US.
  7. I was confused about this to begin with. That sandwich seemingly bore NO resemblance to a Philly Steak Sandwich so in that case I'd send it back also.
  8. From what I understand, if the injury/illness occurred after buying the insurance then you're fine.
  9. Thanks for the trip cancellation part of CSR. I also have regular trip insurance. I have an issue regarding mobility that really could make travel brutal. I'l try to do PT and make it but if not do you think CSR easier than the one I have booked through USAA. TIA.
  10. Exactly. The times they are a changing 😞
  11. Thanks. It didn't seem particular to Oceania but rather that it can happen. And O hasn't been a saint lately and I read about the actions that all the lines are taking to reduce their debt. So I thought it was a general topic in a cruise line Board.
  12. @shepherd really Sincerely asking why you're laughing.
  13. We used to know someone who worked for her and said she wasn't fun to work with. I'll leave it at that.
  14. When I first saw this I was, like, is this a late April Fool's joke. But it appears not. And you're all wrong. Sorry. I know this because we were 'guaranteed' when I saw an article about this. I begged my TA who said she really couldn't do anything but it wasn't long before we were confirmed. I will never accept that status again. https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/cruises/2023/11/30/royal-caribbean-passengers-denied-boarding/71749345007/
  15. Operative word "ladies" not "women." BIG difference 🙂
  16. My husband still has a tuxedo from some cruises way back then. Unfortunately our sons in laws didn't wear them to their weddings. So he couldn't outdress the grooms 🙂
  17. Even (most of) my husband's "dress shirts" are what's called "permanent press" come out of the dryer, hung on a hanger and worn as is. Also what are generally called "golf shirts." Nice cotton knit with a collar and a few buttons at the top. But honestly those dress if removed shortly after your evening 'stuff,' it will still be wearable. Again and again. Unless you dribble or "perspire." (In the South we say "Horses sweat, men perspire and ladies glow."
  18. As far as not having it in the res-only restaurants I wonder with the small number of people dining there if it just doesn't make sense to spend THAT kind of money and maybe have some leftover. As far grilling, I wouldn't do it any other way. https://www.thespruceeats.com/how-to-grill-prime-rib-335743
  19. I must have misread or skipped something. I didn't know you'd had one so you knew what to expect. Sorry.
  20. That's 100% our 'status' if you will. It was pretty shocking when we booked round trip Seattle/Amsterdam and Stockholm/Seattle, Polaris business class, refundable and we each have plenty left. When I read all the troubles that people have with air issues using real money, I'm so glad we had that.
  21. We'll love it as we almost always order starters rather than main. More goodies to try.
  22. Well, I'm 76 and found that actually horrifying. I was raised in the South and good manners were key.
  23. I abjectly apologize. Obviously I should have scrolled DOWN. Thanks for showing this. VERY nice looking shoes.
