  1. Viking probably has many convoluted arrangements with their air partners. For example, paid extra for “premium economy” to Iceland from the US, with a return from Norway. This was above free air. US flights are on Delta in Comfort +, transatlantic on Icelandair in Saga Class, returning from Europe on Delta in Premium Economy. For my premium economy flights, Icelandair has me in their Saga Class - Viking did not call it business. I was not given any alternatives on MVJ when Viking booked nor ticketed my flights. Very satisfied for the $1,099 I paid. Best I’ve found on my own is nearly $4,000
  2. I would love to cash upgrade to a Penthouse Junior or Explorer Suite, but I'm afraid any offer will be sent to my travel agent first. I'll watch my email and contact my TA two weeks prior to departure. Seems that any offers arrive seven to ten days prior to crusing. Would be nice if one could bid on unsold cabins like other cruise lines.
  3. This was posted in December 2022 on Flyertalk by someone flying out of Dulles - IAD. "And, as a final note to pass on, they state the 'Carry-On' bag should not exceed 7.8 inches in width. I measured their baggage checking cage at the airport, the actual dimensions are..." Carry-On : 22" x 10"Personal Item: 16" x 6" BTW Almost every international flight on Icelandair includes one checked bag.
  4. MadMarine - "No wire hangers, ever!" as said by Miss Crawford.
  5. Unfortunately, all cruise lines seem to have a huge disconnect between the landside office and the ships themselves. Heidi13 - I'm assuming your travel agent was unable to get you any help either.
  6. Opened at Noon. Suggestion to Viking: be able to add your credit card info to your account. Copy and paste were annoying. I booked EVERYTHING I wanted, except one. I will check MVJ (My Viking Journey) every time I'm online. Too bad someone hasn't created an app like Mousewatcher or Expertflyer to let you know in real-time when bookings open.
  7. I'm ready to book today at 3PM eastern time, but I wonder if Viking ever opens shorex early? I keep checking every 30 minutes or so.
  8. What is this pouch? Pictures, please! My first Viking Ocean cruise is this July. I have a nice collection of tote bags from other cruise lines.
  9. Just read that MSC Seaside failed their latest CDC inspection. 67 out of 100, the fourth lowest score in the past twenty years of all CDC inspections. UGH!
  10. What merchant code does Viking use for shorex purchased online? I'm getting 3% cash back on online purchases on my Amex.
  11. I wonder when and where the crew, the hotel side, boards for the first time.
  12. POA1 - Can you now book the cabanas online like a shore excursion? If not, how did you book it?
  13. Rex - I have my first Viking Ocean cruise coming July 2023, but I'm still receiving a printed brochure at least weekly. I enjoy reading/perusing them.
  14. You’re not seeing things the shower is in the room, as is the sink.
  15. I like the picture of Mike walking towards the ship. At first I thought it was just another condo or office tower. Have fun guys.
  16. Ben & Jerry's just like on Royal Caribbean. I'd imagine Crystal makes their own ice cream and or gelato.
  17. jonthomas - The squeaky wheel gets the roof open! Try to enlist your fellow cruisers to ask to have the roof open. At least partially.
  18. I dislike any kind of body wash, and bring my own soap for the shower. On Rotterdam VI there was only liquid soap at the sink. I asked our steward for a bar of soap. He dropped off a full-size bar of Ivory! Guess they don't have the small paper-wrapped bars anymore. I tipped extra since that may have come from his personal stash.
  19. If you look like this a ball cap and t-shirt are appropriate EVERYWHERE!
  20. In my best Dowager Countess of Grantham voice... "What is this walk you speak of?"
  21. YES! Had two glasses with my omelette this morning on Rotterdam VI.
  22. Juices and milks are complimentary at breakfast.
  23. First-night dinner is often a bit of a mess, regardless of the ship. HAL guests skew to early dining, thus 6 PM can be a difficult time to book.
  24. TX Tillie - take a look at Gary Bembridge's Tips for Travellers on YouTube. He's pretty balanced and his content often has good tips and advice. He certainly has more impact on new cruisers than most CC posters. Over 355 thousand subscribers, along with over 120 MILLION views on his channel. Keith1010 - ask your grandkids about TikTok, they know what it is.
