  1. July and August are a different demographic than usual. Not just on Bermuda sailings. I made the mistake booking Celebrity Century back in the day for a 7 day Caribbean. Kids over ran the ship and the parents allowed them to do anything. I felt sorry for the crew.
  2. Even if they are not frequent cruisers I think being banned by a major cruise line and possibly all the other Carnival brands will have a psychological effect. So I think it will concern them and their families.
  3. That was an oops. I meant Newport RI. I did a long cruise 10 or 11 days on Summit out of NY in June a few years ago that did Newport, Boston, Portland, Bar Harbor and 2 1/2 days in Bermuda at the Dockyard. That was a pretty good itinerary. I had never done Newport, Portland and Bar Harbor. That was the year I did the Oceania 7 day St George and Hamilton later in the year.
  4. They have ruined the best reason to do Oceania to Bermuda. I don’t want to do Newport News on a 7 day Bermuda cruise. I would be okay with only Hamilton, did that on Holland America,, easy enough to get around.
  5. There is a taxi dispatcher at the Dockyard but I don’t think you can depend on a pickup that they arrange. They seem to be mainly getting taxis on the spot. If they do arrange a pickup I suggest using the Hitch Bermuda taxi app or phone the taxi dispatch as a backup. I don’t consider the driveway to the parking area at Warwick to be steep but I guess that is from my perspective. It is nothing like the driveway at Horseshoe and at Elbow.
  6. Some ships have cabanas that can be rented but finding a space under an overhanging deck is what I look for to be in the shade. When you think about it umbrellas would be a bad idea. They could blow away.
  7. Been on over 60 cruises and 9 cruise lines and never had or saw any deck chair umbrellas.
  8. It has been 7 years but back then neither the station or the train a station were very accessible. There are stairs to get to some tracks. There might be accessable trains, maybe the high speed, I took a local train, the local trains had steps up. Check the schedule as high speed trains have lifts. Also the shuttle from the ship then only took us the port entrance. We had to walk to the train station. There were no taxis. I would into a car service like Rome in Limo. We took the cruise line transfer once and we took that once from Rome to the port and Rome In Limo we shared a limo with CC membesr from our roll call.
  9. That is why I don’t do the eastern or western Caribbean much any more. I can’t really think of anything that I haven’t done. Done everything you mentioned. So San Juan find a good restaurant and a good bar. St. Maarten have done the same exactly as you. Did do the Americas Cup boat race and that was fun. Everyone crew even if it’s just holding a clipboard. I think they still have it under another name. St. Thomas, Megan’s Bay, Sapphire Beach, Lindquist Beach, Coki Beach and St John’s Trunk Bay, Honeymoon Bay etc. Took a fast boat trip to BVI . The wild thing. Don’t know if that still exists.
  10. Using Viator in Bermuda does not make sense. They are a middleman that charges more. They don't have their own tours. Book Bermuda tours at the local Island Tour Centre. For example Viator charges $92 for the Segway tour. Island Tour Centre https://www.islandtourcentre.com charges $80 for the exaxt same tour. https://www.islandtourcentre.com/land-based-tours/dockyard-segway-tour/
  11. Celebrity is responsible for checking your documents if leaving out of the US. They hire contractors but it does have something to do with Celebrity. Debarkation is done by local authorities.
  12. That happened to me on a flight back from Iceland. I had done my Global Entry at kiosk and they pulled me out before the exit for a bag inspection. Rummaged though my dirty clothes. I felt sorry for the agent. I did not have a lot of luggage. One 24 inch checked bag. I am certain he had a quota he had to inspect. He also had me fill out and sign the paper form even though I had done it on the kiosk. I didn't take it personally.
  13. Mine went off a couple of times when I was participating in a standing ovation at the symphony. Really strong clapping. I have an Apple Watch which also has fall detection. It did ask me if I fell before calling so I answered no and no emergency call was made.
  14. At my last renewal which was in 2017 I had so many trips stacked that I had to time the renewal just right..... so I had to do one cruise with only 5 months left. I timed that for a Caribbean cruise out of that US and had no issues using that passport. No one said anything. That is one reason I know that 6 months depends on itinerary. My passport expires in January 2027 and since I don't stack travel now like I did in my prime traveling years, I have slowed down, I plan to renew in the first 3 months of 2016.
  15. I have never found any snorkeling in Bermuda that is as good as Bonaire. The operators in Bermuda will go to an alternative site if the waters are too rough. I have had that happen in Bermuda. You can rent your own boat at a place like BDA Watersports and motorr out yourself to the wrecks and other snorkel spots. They will provide a map. Need to reserve in advance though..
  16. I never have until I got onboard. There have often been servers standing outside the buffet area offering discounts. I don’t know what is on that ship, have not been on it but my favorite specialty restaurant on Solstice class has been Lawn Club. If they have Lawn Club I would book it one evening for sure. Onboard though not in advance.
  17. My advice is to renew about a year before expiration date. Then no worries if a country requires 6 months left. Usually when people have a dilemma they waited until less than 6 months and then read their cruise lines confusing documents recommendations. They may have booked last minute. The cruise lines are confusing and vague on purpose because some of their customers will never get it right. Also some will blame them if they arrive at boarding with the wrong document and also because documents required depends on itinerary. They clearly put the responsibility on us. You can see that often when people post their questions here and don’t include any details. I don’t blame the cruise lines for putting it on us.
  18. If you are cruising out of a US port with a US passport on a typical closed loop US and Caribbean itinerary, not doing Martinique or Guadeloupe you have nothing to worry about. But as someone just posted previously you have left out key details needed to confirm you don’t have a dilemma.
  19. Just like any number on my contact list. I select from the names that I added. I don’t memorize the numbers. Emergency SOS has been established for years. Android phones have it too. They have a different way of activating than iPhones but they have it. Emergency SOS was established by mobile carriers. Since emergency calls don’t get billed emergency calls can be made from mobile phones even if they don’t have a SIM card. That is how mobile cell networks work internationally..
  20. In countries with more than one number using emergency SOS you choose the service you need. So you don’t need to know the numbers. It is up to each country’s emergency service whether they have a translate service. The number of countries that support the satellite emergency SOS service has increased over time. It will continue to increase. That is regulatory and must be worked out with each countries emergency service. A bunch of languages are supported. When you make a call with SOS, your iPhone automatically calls the local emergency number and shares your location information with emergency services1. In some countries and regions, you might need to choose the service that you need. For example, in China mainland you can choose police, fire, or ambulance
  21. You are overthinking how emergency calling works. You do what you are comfortable doing. With an iPhone if you call emergency SOS you are going to be routed to an emergency number if there is cell service. Next yesr we will be able send video to emergency dispatch that can receive video. If in an area with no cell coverage with my phone there is the satellite feature for emergencies. There is a demo built in which I have tried which walks through connecting by satellite. Coming next year iMessage by satellite for any texting if there is no cell service, not just emergency calls by satellite.
  22. It isn’t perfect, it is pretty intelligent though and probably way better than the device. It learns from mistakes. Fall detection and crash detection on iPhones has saved a lot of lives.
  23. It doesn’t have to be popular to be reliable. I just mentioned that to highlight that Apple phones know the emergency number in Japan. . Memorize the emergency numbers to your hearts content. 🙄
  24. The phone didn’t detect a crash or fall? When I tripped and fell face down on the sidewalk a couple of years ago my phone called 911. I do have fall detection and crash detection turned on.
  25. It will call whatever emergency number Japanese iPhones call. The iPhone is popular in Japan. You are welcome to research it. If you are in doubt what you can also do is say Siri call the police. Or Siri call the fire department. Siri call for an ambulance. Siri will call the correct number in any country you are in.
