  1. A few years back, Carlos Oscar won some award for best entertainer on Princess. We think he is hilarious, but some find him not to their tastes, which could be said of any act. This being the third post mentioning him, it say he is he is a well known favorite. Get your seat early because the show will be packed. He was supposed to get a TV series, I wonder what happened to that?
  2. Google maps showed as two, oh well. Of course, for the ports of San Pedro or Long Beach, you and I have the option, neighbor, of getting a ride from home, day of sailing if we want to, or going directly home after the cruise. The OP wants to arrive ahead, from Vancouver BC, on what sounds like Grand Prix weekend. You or I can stay where we prefer, or stay/go home if we don't like the availability. The problem stated by the OP is a problem of finding a hotel, "...not sold out or beyond pricy." I wrote, "If something better is not available." I never said it was a desirable option, but an option it is, in light of the Grand Prix in town, which is the topic of this thread.
  3. LA local here. The reason there is nothing available in Long Beach, April 2024 is the Long Beach Grand Prix. There are two places, 2 and 3 stars rated, but you can walk to the pier. Those are the Studio 6 Suites and the Sunrise Hotel. Only saying they are not known as widely as those others mentioned and you might find a vacancy, if something better is not available. Both border on 6th street. Also on 6th is the San Pedro Cafe which we enjoy for meals.
  4. I believe it's called a Route Deviation Request. It has to be approved. Judging from recent posts, the Customer Service Center has some training issues so good luck with them knowing what it is. Puerto Vallarta would have the bigger airport, seventh busiest airport in Mexico, Huatulco is 23rd.
  5. Welcome to Princess and Cruise Critic. No doubt this will become another lengthy formal night thread, but to your unique question, I haven't seen a single tux on our three Princess sailings since restart, and I own one and used to wear it on cruises. Since Covid, it just isn't there to really get dressed up for dinner on Princess as it was in the past. Also, this Dine My Way you've likely read about takes away the special quality of dining. Not sure why. Feels more like being seated at a local family type restaurant. I always wear a sportcoat on the plane flight and roll up a tie in the pocket. It gives you the option and you really don't need to take up more luggage space. You will see about half dressed even more casual. A few suits. You will read posts here that advise to be comfortable, so do that.
  6. If you don't receive it, they'll issue you one at the port. Just have a trusted neighbor/friend/relative pick up your mail so thieves don't get hold of it, if arriving after you leave. Meaning them knowing when you're on vacation. Let us know if it arrives, OK?
  7. Log into Princess. Go to My Account from the top blue bar. Manage this Booking Payments icon at the top. Just below Payments and Credits, click Credits. Hope that helps. Don't know anything about where gambling deals go. Not a gambler. Oh yeah, print your Cruise Summary. Hope that helps!
  8. Regarding your luggage, yes, as mentioned you can wheel it on yourself. Also at disembarkation, you will be given the choice to take your own luggage off. We prefer this as once a suitcase was damaged leaving the ship and there's no one there to talk to about it, with connections to make.
  9. Because they can? The job requirement for a Princess sound engineer is three years experience in a theater or club or bar. It's up to somebody who worked in a bar to be considerate of your hearing. Point was made, it's really up to the individual to protect themselves. But there should also be measurable guidelines, oversight and a corrective action process. If there is, it doesn't seem so.
  10. The problem does not lie with us, as passengers, except as someone noted, generational age. I don't mean in the sense the younger crowd wants things louder, rather, as we age, we perceive sound differently. What is enjoyable when younger becomes painful as we age. The other factor, also age related, also mentioned above, is that our ability to discriminate sounds also changes. As we age. Ordering a drink at a nearby bar or even table conversation becomes more difficult to discern because conversation is not picked out in a din of noise as it could be when younger. The problem on Princess part is though they have received complaints about the sound, they apparently do nothing about it. What needs to happen is to hire an audiologist to make recommendations in the theater and venues on volume and graphic equalization, based on predictable averages for the demographic of Princess cruisers. In that way, voices can be understood, at a lower volume. My guess is, crewmembers set the sound for themselves, for their hearing. "It sounds good to me." There needs to be professional direction.
  11. If what is important to you is the covered pool, then Sapphire or Coral. We, meaning all us responders, are stating our priorities. So for my priorities, sightseeing. The difference to you is the Coral is smaller and has a forward facing glassed-in buffet to sit and watch the sights. The Sapphire and Ruby have Skywalkers bar high and near the stern to sightsee.
  12. Bringing it back to the topic, you sound like someone who is tech savvy and if there is a problem, several here can advise about the App. But do what you can on the web based version pre-cruise, less wonky. We are one-and-done on RCL and a long time ago so can't advise. Princess used to be similar to Celebrity, but now, I don't know.
  13. Is there one line that stands out in your mind that you like? My point is, if you have one sailing each on 4 lines and 14 sailings on, lets pick Celebrity, then we can compare to that line. If however you have sailed 3 to 4 sailings on each line; meaning you are more interested in the itinerary than brand loyalty, then what I would say is Princess does a great job of hitting the major ports, but their ships are too big for those smaller getaways. I've been on the Regal and that was our impression. Size gives lots to do, but big and impersonal. Some like it that way. The buffet is amazing for size and selection! No Promenade deck to walk off the calories though.
  14. If you meant that you used it for a cruise, then t&atravel is correct, there is nothing to get back, as the $100 is credited to your balance. You do get OBC for your cruise. If you meant that you have decided not to use it, then you can wait a year and it will automatically be returned to whichever account, usually a credit card, paid for it. I have read that you can also call Princess and request it be returned earlier than a year. I always book with it though, so full disclosure, I never get anything back.
  15. I do see I made a mistake. In rereading, there is not one b2b but two, almost a year apart. That aside, I do think there is something to check. It almost sounds condescending to mention, but be sure that the login for the cruise is the correct booking number. Surely this has been done though. Nothing but true that picking up the Medallion at the pier solves the problem of where it gets mailed.
  16. Two things, both I think might work together. First the Medallion. Elect to pick it up at the port. Takes like two minutes at the desk. Solves the issue of where they mail it. We found for our upcoming, also out of Ft. Lauderdale, there was no option, only pick it up at the port. You'd think logging in with your booking number would direct the mailing. Guess not. So... you will be at the desk anyway. Add your credit card while you're there. Leave it blank for now. One thing I did notice is an old cancelled card was still on our account from a previous cruise, I needed to delete it when I added the new one. Something to check and if there is an old card, you'll need to delete it anyway. Good luck! Phone service? While T-mobile is good for not charging for calls outside the US, that doesn't help you at home. I have a vision impared friend who uses a Jitterbug phone with larger interface. Jitterbug uses the Verizon network so check their coverage map for your area.
  17. If you don't currently have one, then know that with the good ones, you have to tell them don't call me, I'll call you. They have a direct line and email. If you don't get a response, change agents. the good ones are hungry and no trouble reaching them. Just don't call them mornings, especially Monday. They get busy at times just like most businesses. Read threads here about the call center which several report is in the Phillipines, providing incorrect/ inconsistent information. Also, this may or may not be an issue, is your ability to understand heavy accents. Stick with someone with experience, which could also be a TA.
  18. Agree. Have to say, this thread ranks as one of the imponderables on CC. My favorite was the one where the poster needed to know which side of the doorway to stand on to get into the MDR. I was going to post, the outside, but didn't. There is zero reason for crew to have access to passenger information outside of their purview.
  19. Ever hear the expression, "Consider the source." I wouldn't consider the ship's tech a gruru. [sic] Have used Android just fine on three cruises since restart, including the Emerald in August. 2.6 mb is good for satellite! Were you expecting service like at home?
  20. The post you quote was a response to my post saying, "I would not sail on any line (in) September even if it was offered." You are correct, I meant hurricanes.
  21. This was our experience in August this year, so, it's current. Up to $25 in cash at Passenger Services, I did have to go to the Elite lounge the night before and have a Boulevardier to bring the amount under $25. Those are really good BTW. Like a Negroni but with rye whiskey instead of gin.
  22. Agree. Poor form to make a comment or criticise. When I see someone with a cap in the MDR, I assume the person has an embarassing scalp infection. Why make the person feel awkward by saying something? Or they're wearing a cap to defy and invite criticism; play the victim. I'm not going to give them that satisfaction either. Whichever, best to say nothing, but leave it to the staff to handle.
  23. Adagio. Some may look at a deck plan to try and show me I'm wrong; to tell me there's no Adagio Bar, but there is. That's why I like it. Few know about it or go there.
  24. I've exchanged large for smaller bills for tips at Passenger Services. Didn't know there was an ATM. Learned something new today.
  25. Maybe they have the same worry about you and will keep the noise down. I've had no problems with noise in this type of cabin.
