  1. Rebel54 did you really mean ‘ethnic cleansing’?
  2. Scenic for a few years before Covid really started to push in the American market. We’ve been travelling with them for many years and yes their base market is Australians which you would expect from an Australian company our travelling companions have also been Canadians, New Zealander’s and only recently Americans. Has anyone tried contacting the boss man Glen Moroney I suspect he’s contactable through Scenic Swiss office where evidently he lives. I hope the system gets sorted soon.
  3. Yesterday was interesting freezing fog all day very difficult to see your hand in front of your face. Today was beautifully bright.
  4. Has anyone ever seen a cabin size comparison chart, now that would be interesting.
  5. Slippery thinking there Jazz, I like it. Friends of mine each have their fingers for their phones and have had for some years, don’t knock it she’s just been diagnosed with early onset dementia (so sad she’s my teenage companion of scootering around Europe)
  6. I’ve never heard of triple occupancy cabins but most river cruise companies have single cabins although usually only one per vessel. Look out for special offers as I believe they can be more expensive. Good luck.
  7. California blew it with us just before covid hit it definitely did not like my husbands fingerprints so he ended up talking to your security guys, they tried to move myself and family on until I sat down and refused luckily they accepted my reluctance to move. Must admit lots of apologies when they realised just how many business trips my guy had been involved in. I absolutely have no problem with security challenges having worked with it for many years but inefficient equipment, which they admitted to is not acceptable for visitors and the staff.
  8. I’ve never sailed with Tauck but have with Scenic many times. Try deciding which length cruise you would like and make up a pro’s and con’s list between the two as reading on all these threads I think you would be happy with both. Enjoy your research!
  9. Hopefully some good news the EU has delayed their introduction of fingerprint and photograph entry requirements until maybe next year.
  10. On our second trip we did Siegfried’s and then the cable car, a quick dash around the Christmas shop, then found a cafe where we sat and had an excellent Rudesheimer coffee whilst watching the chaos as the heavens opened and made the streets like mini rivers. Then a slow amble back to the ship and in the square several local car clubs were showing off their pride and joys. I nearly got captured by a (rather attractive) Frenchman when he discovered I’d owned a 2CV for many years. Altogether another memorable day on the rivers of Europe.
  11. Jazz, chin up and carry on! Have a great trip, relax, recover and most of all enjoy 😉
  12. Very interesting but I’m pretty sure we’ve been on some of these excursions, maybe not exactly the same but very very similar.
  13. I must admit sometimes we in the U.K. forget how tiny our little piece of land is compared to elsewhere in our wonderful world.
  14. Notamermaid we have snow lots of it but not near us we have extremely heavy frosts and lots of water making the roads like skating rinks. The Somerset levels don’t look to good at the moment even after the Dutch engineers did so much wonderful work several years ago. When my aunt lived in Edmonton we judged the severity of the winter by how close the snow got to her lounge window cill.
  15. Maybe for your next wine cruise? https://news.sky.com/story/british-sauvignon-blanc-wine-from-gloucestershire-vineyard-named-one-of-the-best-in-the-world-12788678
  16. Double check as we found in Stellenbosch South Africa there was actually a vintner in London who imported the wines we had selected. At the time it worked out a lot less cost and hassle than carting it back home.
  17. lovetotraveltx most European wine suppliers can arrange wine shipping and if they cannot they will know someone who can, just ask.
  18. Maybe that’s why I mentioned it and I must admit we were surprised how many North Americans we met along with Germans.
  19. Don’t forget hiring a barge to drive yourselves, we met more North Americans on our Canal du Nivernais cruise and most had bikes on board.
  20. Sorry Kenster I should have addressed CruiseMark. It’s your holiday so find out if they have a slow walkers group on the excursions wonderful for photographers.
  21. Kenster checking on the internet there is one dedicated smoking area on Avalon vessels and that’s on the after end, there is no smoking inside anywhere including the state rooms and balconies. It’s something I’m always interested in as an ex smoker and so proud of quitting and so thankful to my NHS quitting nurse. I can assure you I can sniff out an illegal smoker a mile off. Although apart from this reply I really don’t talk about it, why when I’ve done it!
  22. Congratulations it’s one of the first times I’ve heard of traveler's meeting up with fellow traveler's on CC as there are so few on board compared with ocean cruising have a great cruise.
  23. I certainly hope Scenic have seen your cruise report as I and it would seem many others found it very very interesting and informative. Wonderful! We don’t seem to be having any challenges with Scenic in the U.K. Although big decision at the moment completely new kitchen or river cruise.
  24. pontac ohhhhh ha ha ha do you honestly believe you are the only person who appreciates wine however it is produced on Cruise Critic. Sorry but occasionally I do actually know what I’m talking about.
