Travel-Diva Posted May 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2018 We are flying into Fort Lauderdale and leaving on a RCC from Miami Port. We were going to rent a car at FLL airport and drop off at Miami port? Has anyone done this before? What companies have you used. Do they shuttle you to the port? We were thinking about staying in Fort Lauderdale 1 night, any hotel recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you
CruiserBruce Posted May 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2018 If you come over to the Florida Departures board, here: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=495 You will see dozens of discussions on your questions. Answer is you return the car at the airport, almost all car companies have shuttles to the port.
cb at sea Posted May 12, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 12, 2018 Yes, some car rentals do have shuttles to port and one-way rentals. Google "car rentals, Ft. Laud/Miami" and you can see what's what! You should also google SAS Transportation...might be less than a car rental.
Rare Hlitner Posted May 12, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 12, 2018 You might want to consider that Uber X (their regular car) will cost you around $40 (for the car/driver). Compare this to other offerings and Uber is hard to beat. For us the advantage is we get Uber on our own schedule (you summon them when you want them) and you do not have to wait for others, make other stops (like many shuttle services), etc. Hank

But, would that Uber X price be similar for a journey from Fort Lauderdale cruise terminal to Miami South beach? Many Thanks David

It will give you an estimate. You don't have to download the app or join. It only takes a minute.

leaveitallbehind Posted May 13, 2018 #8 Share Posted May 13, 2018 Hank Sorry for the quick hijack of this thread. But, would that Uber X price be similar for a journey from Fort Lauderdale cruise terminal to Miami South beach? Many Thanks David Yes it would be similar but as champagne123 suggested, check their website for pricing. We have used Uber several times between FLL and the Port of Miami with very good success. It should also be noted that with Uber, you can pre-reserve your return from the Port of Miami to FLL, which makes that very easy. Just our preference v rental cars if all we are trying to do is get between the two with no additional sightseeing or detours. However on our last cruise we had time after the cruise and did rent a car. We used National (my preference due to business travel status with them) and they have a South Beach location as well as at MIA. We took a regular shuttle (not sure if they provide their own) from the POM to MIA and then dropped off the next day at FLL.

Rare KKB Posted May 13, 2018 #10 Share Posted May 13, 2018 I use rideguru.com to compare Lyft/Uber & taxis. Has been very reliable.
