What has made you decide.....

Based on posts I have read, Celebrity appears to be the favorite cruise line of the majority of people who post in the Celebrity section of cruise critic. What has made you decide to book a cruise on another cruise line when Celebrity is your favorite?

We recently went with Princess on their Hawaii cruise (jan 11) and are booked on a Princess around the UK cruise. Both were not offered by Celebrity at the time of booking. We are also joining friends so I guess that is the main reason for booking another Cruise Line - itinerary.

We always look to Celebrity as our starting point for a cruise and then check from there. We enjoyed our other Line cruises (no such thing as a bad cruise), but we still find Celebrity as our best match. I do check pricing a bit, but that really isn't a driver since most cruises are pretty close and I'm not looking for the 'boy, I saved $50 going with Carnival'.

Celebrity doesn't have as many ships as most other Lines so the itineraries aren't as varied, but it looks like Celebrity is starting to expand to the areas we'd be interested in so here's hoping...

We found Princess to be enjoyable, but the smoking and what I found as more 'hard sell' was an issue.

I actually wanted to go on Princess, because that was my favorite line, but me and my sister had seen the Millenium in Cozumel and we remember the old Celebrity commercials where they had the people saying they missed being treated like a celebrity on their ships. So we decided to try Celebrity. Its a very good line.

If you love cruising, you really can't go wrong with Princess, Royal Caribbean, or NCL imho. If itinaries are important to you, that's usually the best starting point and price is always a factor too. We took the kids last year and decided on NCL for their Nickelodian (sp?) theme, which was an awesome cruise. Class and excellent service always brings you back to Celebrity though.

Itinerary and time frame first. Cruise line second. To be honest Celebrity has been sucking in the itinerary department, with a few exceptions, for years. Nice to see them adding new routes. We will probably end up booking Solstice Barcelona to Dubai as it looks to be about 15 days whereas Princess is 27 I think.

We loved our first cruise on Celebrity. We tried RCCL because we could cruise with them over break without having to fly and without having the kids miss too much school (1 day). We thought 'oh, they're owned by the same company how different can they be'. Yeah, so Gap and Old Navy! We ALL preferred Celebrity but we don't have a whole lot of options within a days drive (and we'd really rather spend our money ON the cruise, not getting TO the cruise).

Although we love Celebrity, we booked our thanksgiving week cruise on HAL because the port was less than an hour & half away, & the price was unbeatable. For those of us who want a vacation type cruise out of Los Angeles or San Diego, there aren't many choices.

Celebrity is my favorite followed closely by Princess.

Beef is my favorite followed closely by fish and sometimes i just feel like fish.

So a change of pace, something that another line does a little better than Celebrity, itinerary or as someone mentioned, a spur of the moment cruise out of Galveston is more affordable for us Texans.

Celebrity has chosen to abandon the Caribbean during the summer and fall months; do I need to explain why I choose to stray? Is it even straying at all?

If I need to take a cruise and there is not a Celebrity ship doing that specific itinerary, I look for any cruise line that is.

Of course, Carnival is NEVER a consideration for me, under ANY circumstances....

I appreciate Celebrity's no smoking on the balconies and in the casino. We book balcony cabins to enjoy the pure ocean air. On our last cruise on Royal Caribbean, the man next to us smoked a cigar every evening when we were on the balcony to enjoy the sunset. The folks on the other side smoked day and night constantly. The only time we had the pure ocean air we sought was really late at night.

No smoking at all, anywhere on the ship? What about on balconies?

No smoking at all on your balcony or in your stateroom. There are designated

areas outside.

NCL has cruises from NYC to the Caribbean during the winter months. We were delighted when Celebrity announced a similar itinerary on Silhouette and have booked it for January 2012, but will go back to NCL for that itinerary since Celebrity will not be doing it the following year.

We love RCCL's Radiance Class ships and book them when they have an itinerary that appeals to us.

Our daughter, who has been on five different cruise lines, took a Disney Cruise with her family in January and thinks that Disney is the best cruise line for children. So my husband and I booked a three generation cruise on a Disney ship with our daughter's family for next year.

Denny, when you think about it Holland America doesn't have that many more ships than Celebrity, and they probably offer the best itinerary options of any mass market cruise line.

HAL has 15 ships, Celebrity 10 I think? with one of those being Xpedition so definitely more limiting. I think Celebrity's problem is that they keep doing the same itinerary over and over again through the season. We were looking at Silhouette next year. I think it's like 8 holy land cruises in a row through August and September and October. Mix it up a little for heaven sake. We don't want to do a holy land cruise.
