YES, Disney IS managed by the Carnival Corporation. Disney only handles the licensed figures, entertainment, etc. but the ship (most important) and the crew are all Carnival ......... be ware!

Absolutely, positively 100% incorrect. There is no affiliation between Carnival Corporation and Disney.

Nope, completely false!

What you might be thinking about is a relationship Disney had with Premier Cruise Line in the 80s. Disney Cruise Line, although founded in 1998, was originally created in 1995 when the company commissioned its two ships at Fincantieri in Italy, ending the Walt Disney Company's arrangement with Premier Cruise Line for the maritime segment of its vacation packages. Disney had contracted Premier Cruise Line to provide cruise vacations in the 1980s, also sailing from Port Canaveral. The ships were similarly marketed as family vacations and featured costumed Disney Characters.

My dear

Carnival owns many lines and by having ownership they of course assume a greater overall responsibility than RCCL and others. Carnival, Princess, Costa, Holland America, Cunard and Disney are managed by Carnival Corp..

Twice you have made this unsubstantiated claim. Prove it or drop it.

Second - the Constitution, 1988, around the Hawaiian Islands. Poor service (American college kids for the most part), very small ship with tiny cabins, no stabilizers in very rough seas (we had deck chairs blowing overboard one evening), and very depressing tablemates. Our tablemates may have usually been lovely people, but they had just come from a reunion of WWII nurses in Honolulu; that had triggered some bad memories for her, and we heard sad and gory stories every night at dinner, usually ending with her sobbing! The best part of the cruise was a midnight sailing past a spectacular lava flow into the sea.

Brings back memories - sort of. Our first cruise was American Hawaiian Cruises, can't recall if it was the Independence or Constitution. We had these two older ladies as table mates. Their faces looked like they were taste testers at a lemon juice factory. Complained about everything. We didn't let them ruin things (we laughed at them away from the table), but good grief - this is a cruise around Hawaii. The ship would need to sink for it to be bad. Being ignorant at the time, we didn't know about trying to get a different table.

But that's a people issue, not a cruise line issue.

Sorry for the diversion - however, carnival cruise lines has given a black eye to the industry. From fires and deaths on Carnival "not-so'fun" ships to sinkings aboard Costa. Get real. It won't get any better until the cruisers boycott them and force them to raise their standards. I guess if someone wants cheap than certainly Carnival is the cruise line of choice. Been there and have done that - will not waste hard earned money on the "NOT-SO-Funny" ships of carnival.......end of discussion.

...but like most business models it serves and targets a certain segment of the cruising public. The quality may not be up to par BUT they are successful as reflected in their stock price.

Not sure why you think you are the one to determine that a discussion is finished.

I have no love for Carnival for a variety of reasons, but to assert that the Costa sinking was in any way the fault of Carnival Corporation just shows plain ignorance. It was the fault of the captain, plain and simple.

Too bad - the poorly trained and monitored captain as are the poorly deigned and maintained ships IS the direct responsibility of carnival corp. their success financially is on the back of those looking for economy and sacrificing safety and service. no ignorance other than the ignorance of those who choose to support the nonsense of their desire for profits over people comfort and safety.

Plain and simple - not ignorance - sorry - I've stated very logical and clear reasons not to support this corporate behemoth bent on profits over people - i'm done trying to convince those who won't listen.

Have a nice day and stay safe - not foolish!

Carnival Legend. First and last Carnival Cruise. Just thinking about it makes me break out in hives. Weirdest "decor" I've ever seen. All those urns....it was like carting cremated remains all over the Caribbean.... Bad food in the MDR, although the specialty restaurant wasn't bad - that's as charitable as I'm going to get.

early 1990's...Royal Cruise Lines ship "Crown Odyssey".....Eastern Carribean cruise......happiest moments were getting on/off ship in Port Everglades.....poor A/C led to HOT cabins....supposedly a stabilizer problem or so we were told....led to a rocking/rolling ship which caused many passengers along with staff and crew to become sick....a common sight was to see many hanging over the railings and feeding "chum" to the sea below..

the ship's doctor was busier than the cruise director on that cruise....:(

the public areas on the ship were nearly empty and the ship's infirmary was "standing room only" ~ aka "filled to the gills" with many passengers looking a tad green and not from envy of the cruise...:D

on a bright note.....actually i did save money in the casino...i quit playing roulette & slots after a fellow passenger "barfed" on roulette table and then "sprayed" a few slot machines later in the cruise...:o

fair winds & calm seas to all !!! :)

You are telling me to "Get real"?????? You are the one who claimed that Disney was managed by Carnival, and you are telling ME to get real??

Based on a prior experience, I will never again set foot on a Carnival Cruise Line ship. However, my Princess cruises have been perfectly fine and I would not rule them out for future cruises. I've never tried Cunard, but would if the opportunity presented itself.

As for Disney, our first cruise was on the Disney Magic. They did a superior job of making our time with them enjoyable and we have been hooked on cruising ever since. If our Carnival cruise had been our first, we probably would have never cruised again.

So, my advice to you is "Get Real" and stop posting incorrect information, and spare us your personal campaign against Carnival Corp.

some of us are not financially able to sail on the luxury ships you have sailed on. there bad reviews about those ships as well. I for one like carnival and will still sail on their ships as well as ncl. it is my choice which line i like the best and what suits me as well as what suites you. please don't be so condecending to others because they think differently than you.

We took a TA on the Rotterdam and were not impressed. The announcements on two occasions gave the WRONG information, resulting in my missing two ports, one of which I was really looking forward to visiting again!

NCL was very good in the 90s, but one or two owners ago it went DOWN.

How did two erroneous announcements causevyounto miss two ports?

As far as Carnival is concerned, I think that a failure of any of its brands (and that includes brands such as Princess, HAL, Cunard etc etc) is a failure of Carnival itself. It goes to the top. But that doesn't stop me holding their shares and receiving the OBC. But my eyes are wide open.

And Disney is not affiliated with Carnival in any way.

There must have been a lot wrong with a HAL cruise for you to refuse future free cruises; details would be interesting.

I wrote a long review at the time. Tokeep it short, lots of problems with our cabin, no hot water, blowing cold air constantly (in Alaska). Food was bad, bland, fake crab served twice being passed off as dungeness and Alaska king crab. We were lied to, service issues, meals being mixed up. Cheese plate at dinner became a running joke, there was honestly just so much. The Zuiderdam was in terrible shape. Stuffing falling out of pool chairs. Kind of hard to believe I know. And even we know that HAL can't be that bad or they wouldn't be in business. I guess we just hit the perfect storm of crap cruises.

We sailed on the Zuiderdam once. It was a bizarre experience....not terrible - but bizarre. First, someone ran over my foot with their scooter. I limped the entire week. Weird thing was - about 20 other people were limping too. Second, we had a couple at our table who were cruising while their roof was being fixed after a hurricane - this man wore denim overalls to dinner every night and every night he'd fall asleep between the salad and main course, while "mother" (that's what he called her) poked at him. We BEGGED to be switched to another table after the 3rd night. The food was so bland that the "signature" Caesar Salad was a running joke - the "signature" being that it had absolutely no taste at all. None. And there were creepy fake "people" (sort of mannequins, I guess) sitting in the balcony of the theatre. Very odd cruise.
