Departure Day has Finally Arrived

First, thanks to everyone on this board who have given helpful (and sometimes humorous-or not) advice, not just to me but to others. I have learned a lot (sometimes too much). Your information and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Our checklist is completed:

-dog and cat taken to boarding kennels

-house cleaned and fridge emptied

-shrub/flower beds tidied/dug up and lawn mowed

-bird feeders all filled

- house key with neighbour

-all packing done-including some of the must haves suggested by seasoned cruisers (lighter luggage as we will do unlimited laundry)

-euros, small US $bills for tipping, airline tickets, luggage tags, passports, receipts for prepaid indulgences and HAL boarding passes in hand

-banks advised about travel plans re: debit and credit cards

-all tours (HAL and private) arranged and confirmed (prepaid and insured)

- transportation to airport to be provided by darling daughter

 

Tonight we start with 16 hours of air travel from western Canada to Barcelona via London and Munich (travelling on aeroplan miles, so the more circuitous, the better, I guess). Flying part of the way on Lufthansa, so we are very happy strike is on hold. We arrive 1.5 days before the cruise, so will see some of Barcelona on Saturday before boarding Sunday on the Ryndam for an 18 day West Mediterranean Collector cruise.

 

Will report back when we return in early October…having only POSITIVE thoughts to ensure on time travel connections, luggage arriving on the same plane that we do, good weather and calm seas so we can dock at each port, good ship conditions, good food and if all else fails, we know we will at least have a great 43rd wedding anniversary.

A suggestion : turn off the water and turn the hot water heater to "vacation" mode. Have a wonderful vacation !
