Anyone else on the Caribbean stuck in Boston?

I'm currently on the Princess and staff has been great to me. Obviously will be crowded as the shops and casino are closed. If you choose to sail in Hurricane season because of the great rates you should be aware of the repercussions

Seriously? You got on a ship which was sailing into a massive weather event and you are complaining about the staff? YOU had a choice as to whether to board or not, THEY did not.

We took this spring's TA on the Caribbean Princess. The crew were the best we have ever had. The waitstaff, the International cafe staff, the cruise director staff, all were terrific. We went into some really bad weather and they maintained their great attitude. Apparently you have never sailed on Celebrity or Cunard. If you want rude, try these for sullen and miserable. We were on both this year.

We liked the Caribbean Princess so much that we are trusting her for our 40th anniversary next month.

Oh, and if you want to have a great day, try being nicer than you have to be and see the results. Just today I had a Comcast repairman at my house. He thanked me for being so positive and having a great sense of humor that made his day go easier. His service to me was exemplary and he went above and beyond the call of duty.

I hope for the sake of the crew, you are able to get off soon.

We were on the Caribbean Princess just 4 weeks ago out of NY to Canada/New England. Had a great cruise and the staff was outstanding for the most part. Had a couple that maybe not quite up to par, but everyone else were fantastic and went above and beyond. Would sail on the CB again. Also didn't find it any more crowded than the other grand class ships as others have stated. I've seen on other cruises that if you are rude, etc. they still try to treat you with respect. I think it's a very difficult job to try to please everyone.

I'm sure it's an even more stressful time for the staff than the passengers. They're having to deal with stressed out people plus they know they are losing a lot of income on this cruise.

I'm sorry for the people who didn't have insurance but when it comes down to it, that was their choice. They gambled they wouldn't need it. :(

I'm curious. Why is the crew losing money on this cruise? Were there that many cancellations.

The bottom line is that the Carnival Corporation has saved tens of thousands of dollars in diesel fuel costs. It's a whole lot cheaper going from NY to Boston than to Bermuda.

I hope Carnival/Princess does the right thing and refunds those savings to the passengers!

People's lives are in danger & you're more worried about refunds...wow!

Staff is rude especially the Eastern Europeans. No above and beyond service. Vastly dissappointed.

Others on your cruise have said just the opposite.

I do not think in this situation the idea was to save fuel costs. I am of the mind set that they are thinking SAFETY FIRST.

We did a TA this Fall on the Emerald and missed 2 ports, one of them being in Greenland. Yes, we were disappointed but I would much prefer to be SAFE than abthe bottom of the ocean with the Titanic.

And I really agree with whoever said GRT A LIFE.

Also I would not want to work on any of these cruise lines as all they hear day in and day out are COMPLAINTS. yes, in some cases they are warranted but in many cases what we heard was ridiculous. one person complained to the Captain Circle Rep that the meat was tough. Really, folks get a life and look on the posiives there are many in this world that would love to have you life.

Probably more to do with many of the unhappy people will blame anyone they can for the situation they're in (other than themselves of course) and cancel their DSCs. Plus unhappy people don't tip extra etc. A happy, party atmosphere brings out the best (or sometimes worst) in people... thus, normally, extra revenue for the staff. Even an obnoxious drunk tips well !! :)

Not happy on your cruise ship in Boston? Tell you what - rent yourself a car and drive down the Mass Pike to exit 6. We're having turkey burgers hot off the gas grill. Once we fire up the generator, I can make you a frozen umbrella drink! And tonight's laptop Movie Under The Camping Lantern will be either Finding Nemo or Master and Commander, depending on who wins the coin toss. Come on out to western Mass - we'll give you service with a smile! :)

Cheers,

Kirsten

Kirsten, next time I visit my daughter in Beverly I will get off on exit 6 just to shake your hand. :) I loved your response.

Stay safe. I know that you have seen your share of weather in Western Mass.

We had our own nightmare 8 years ago with Hurricane Charley here in Punta Gorda. They are no cause for parties and if you think that you deserve one just because you spent money to board a ship, think again. I am always amazed at folks who will compromise their own safety to make sure that they get their moneys worth. That is what insurance is for. If you cannot afford to lose the cost of your vacation, you need to buy some.

Caribbean P. with 3120 passengers and 1142 crew has the same public space as Golden with 2600 passengers and 1200 crew.

So - not more crowded??????

Identifying someones negative behaviour by nationality in my opinion is rude

I must also consider myself rude then because I have found that many of the Eastern European crew rightly think they are too good for the job they have been forced into to survive economically.

For example one waitress I met was in fact a fully qualified dentist.

Many of these crew have decent University Degrees and are qualified to work in much much better professions than waiting on table, however as their countries have such poor rates of pay they work for better money in a menial position on a ship and are not always too happy about it- and it shows.

I know, it is quite amazing that instead of enjoying the cruise they chose to board knowing there was a huge storm they are gimme gimme gimme and then have the gall to moan about the staff being rude.

Can't imagine how rude people and then surprised at the service they get!!

I am not on the ship but have been keeping track, as I mentioned in other threads, because my husband and some friends are currently on the CB.

Just announced

we leave tomorrow for NYC

will not arrive until Thursday because we have to go slower.

there will be cruise credits issued and they will give free internet to make changes

Literally, as I was reading through this thread, my husband called from the ship and reported that they'd announced the late departure from Boston and late arrival back in NYC. He also said they announced passengers would receive compensation in the form of a cruise credit, though they did not specify the amount. Fortunately, he and our friends who are on the ship are simply making the best of it and doing their best to enjoy themselves. They knew booking during hurricane season left them open to itinerary changes. This is rather extreme, and ironic in that the ship is currently docked less than 10 miles from our home, but they're making the best of it nonetheless, and seem to be having a grand time.

We are on this ship right now and have found the service to be exemplary! All crew we have encountered have a smile and a can do attitude. They and we are making the best of a difficult situation and FWIW I think the crew has been great.

Because I was reading the comments in this thread, I asked him about the service, and he also said the service had been fantastic and - without my prodding or hinting at all - added that the staff was bending over backward for the passengers. He said they'd met many, many fun and friendly staff members all over the ship, and he especially commented positively on their servers in the Crown Grille last night.

I must say that, as others have commented, I too have often found that the attitude with which one approaches a "server" - or anyone, for that matter - can often color the entire encounter.

Identifying someones negative behaviour by nationality in my opinion is rude

And finally, I'm sorry, but I could not agree more with this sentiment, and not only in terms of staff and crew aboard a cruise ship. Anytime someone paints with a broad brush based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, etc., it immediately raises red flags in my mind, and I find any statement(s) that precede or follow are more often than not of "questionable" validity, at best.

I took an RCCL cruise at exactly the same time of year in 2006. IT was from NYC to Bermuda. We hit bad seas. (They told us that while we were docked in Bermuda, we never saw anything that would cause any concern) They took an extra day and a half to get back. Our return airfare change charges were taken care of by the cruise line. There was NO offer of compensation to us, nor was there any expectation of same. Like those on the current cruise we spent extra time on the ship.

If you think that the cruiseline is making extra money because they save on the cost of fuel you have some problems with economics. They are incurring extra costs that they had not anticipated either. How much does it cost to dock in Boston for a few days? If you have ever paid dockage fees for a small boat, imagine the cost of docking something as large as the Caribbean Princess.

Refund!!! For what??? Everyone on board has been provided a warm dry place to sleep, great food, entertainment, people to wait on them hand and foot, etc, etc. Okay so they didn't go to Bermuda but Princess never, as in read the passenger contract, promised them they would. And, I really doubt Princess made any money due to what the weather has caused.

Correction: tonight's Movies Under The Camping Lantern will be a double feature: the classic "Gone With The Wind" followed by the not as classic "Tornado!" No fresh baked cookies but we do have several quarts of melting ice cream, which makes it "soft serve" - I can try to twirl it into a cone for you! :)

Cheers,

Kirsten

So - not more crowded??????

The Caribbean has 500 or so more passengers, but her public spaces are the same size as found on the Golden which has less passengers, so it is more crowded, they extra passengers do make a difference.

If you were to ask the majority of the cruisers onboard this one you might be surprised to discover that there are many who took this "mini" so as to increase the number of cruise credits that they are collecting.

They are not folks who are going to change their allegiance to Princess if they don't get some refund.

Who said they HAD TO GET ON THIS SHIP? They had choices and were well informed of the situation.

IF they chose not to take insurance because it was such a short trip, then that was a choice they made. Any extra reimbursement comes out of the bottom line. This gets passed on to the future cruisers. Why should I pay for a decision made by them?

Oh, and Princess loses a few disgruntled folk. This is a bad thing, why?

So much sense of entitlement and no acceptance of personal responsibility.

Please note that the Ruby, Crown, and Emerald are also this size.
