Roll Calls & Meet & Greet/Mingle???

Recommended Posts

Curious:confused: Does everyone for the most part who contributes to CC attend the M & G's or answer questions on the Roll Calls? And if you don't attend may I ask you why not?

Hoping I'm not being TOO nosey....

My last couple of Holland America cruises have not had great roll calls. The one that leaves this weekend has fewer than 30 posts, of which five are mine. No one has organized a meeting for us.

But when there has been an active roll call, I try to attend the gathering if possible. I enjoy meeting the folks who have been posting. We've even managed to go on private tours with some on cruises.

Have never missed one as I have hosted the M&G on most of our cruises.

Here's my slant. Several just forget, some attend conflicting events, ill, and, several just join a Roll Call to get info.

Bottom line is if they committed to go they should attend but there will always be some that won't for various reasons.

I guess I've been lucky - we've had some great roll calls:D This latest is without question the best:D

Turn outs for the ones i have been to have been wonderful:D

I always go - I am happy to get to meet people that I have been planning with for months (and in this case over one and 1/2 years).

Definitely will go the next ones - I'm the organizer - and I'm counting on the roll call being as good as they are on the roll call and showing up:D

If you are going to participate on the roll call, why not go to the meet and greet?

I always have participated, but the current one is dead, so I doubt there will be anything. In the past I've met some wonderful people and had a great time with them.

Most people who participate on rollcalls attend at least some events but not everyone who posts on this board will participate in the roll call and are not into the events planned. We have had only one slow rollcall but we planned on meeting informally anyway and had a great time. Sometimes people think rollcalls are only for planning private tours (which is not true) but we have had fun putting faces to our creative screen names and met some wonderful people.

It has been years since I have even read one of the Roll Calls for any of our cruises.

I got turned off them when they started with gift exchanges, cabin crawls, posting cabin numbers for everyone to see, posting pre-cruise hotels, etc.

And many of them the people were more interested in talking about their children, homes, jobs, what they were doing each day. UGH -- not for me.

OH -- I did join a Roll Call for last year's Maasdam cruise -- forgot about that. But we never made the Meeting on the ship because there was a talk about a port we had never been to before -- scheduled at the same time as the meeting.

If I commit to something I will always follow through. We have been to some wonderful M&Gs. I have never organized one - but have contributed hand made name tags. We are looking forward the our upcoming cruise on the Prinsendam - fabulous participation by CC members - looking forward to having a great time - lots of activities planned for those who want to join in and enjoy. No arm twisting necessary!!

I usually join the roll calls because it is nice to have others to chat with about the cruise and exchange information. Sometimes I go to the meet and greets, sometimes I don't. For me the roll-calls are more about discussing the trip and gathering pre-cruise information than meeting people on the ship.

Our last couple roll calls have been pretty dead, but there have been large FB groups instead.

We missed the meet and greet on the last cruise because somebody scheduled it for 2 p.m. on embarkation day! We didn't even get on the ship until after 1:30. We had a very active roll call and I was looking forward to putting faces and names together.

I find that the majority of posters on the roll-calls are not frequent posters on this board.

I do participate in the roll calls, but only attend a meet & greet if there's posters I feel I have gotten to know, and want to know better. I am not interested in planning tours together, playing games, or doing cabin crawls.

I've been very fortunate over the years to become friends with CC people I have met on a cruise, but most of them I came to know on this board first---not the roll call.

The best Meet & Greet (if you can call it that) ever was two of us. Became my BFF.

After a few not so great experiences, I gave up on Roll Calls and just about never even read them. I rarely attend the M&G.

We don't plan to do group organized tours, we don't want to do cabin crawls or gift exchanges so I feel it inappropriate I get involved at all.

We've met many interesting people through our Roll Calls and have enjoyed sharing our excitement for our future cruises with them. My husband and I don't cruise often (generally we prefer land based travel) so when we do take a cruise it's fun to "talk" with others who will be sharing our experience. I love the research part of our travels and sharing ideas for different ports has been a lot of fun for me when planning our cruises.

Our next cruise is over a year away but the Roll Call for it is going strong with many people who have done this cruise multiple times and they have a wealth of knowledge to share. I'm already looking forward to meeting them onboard!

I join and participate in the roll calls but we rarely go to the M&G anymore. While we enjoy socialising on a cruise, we prefer that it is random rather than forced.

I enjoy both posting to the roll calls and going to the M & G. Last cruise there were three M & G's and each were well attended. We also had planned many tours together (30 day hawaii / tahiti) so there was a lot of time to visit. As with everything some are better than others. Also you can't depend of others to do all the work. I feel you will only get out what you put in, so I try my best to be as active and helpful as possible.

I used to enjoy talking on the Roll Calls -- could add information on many ports as well as different excursions that we had been on.

But as I said in an earlier post -- times have changed and so have the way most Roll Calls go.

Also -- I would never think of going to a Meet & Greet without joining in on the Roll Call. I know some here have done that.

I have enjoyed meet and greets and roll calls on some cruises, on others it never really got going. For my most recent cruise on Princess the roll call people had scheduled a meet and greet on the embarkation day and the ship was delayed and people were waiting for bags to be delivered to their cabins, etc., so I don't think anyone showed up. I like to chat on roll calls to get information about the ports and what people are doing, but I agree, I don't like cabin crawls or gift exchanges.

I like Roll Calls - it's great to (kind of) get to know people before the cruise, and to share ideas, discuss shore excursions, etc. etc. I almost always go to the Meet & Greet as it's so nice to put faces to names. Our last one was the most successful, over 100 people turned up (the roll call had been going for over a year, and was very busy every day!) and was great.

I do not do cabin crawls, gift exchanges or share my cabin number. As soon as someone starts to get too bossy or to organising, or demands information I'm outa there.
