Are Formal Nights still non smoking in the casino?

I have just read reviews of the first 2 sailings of Grandeur out of Baltimore and found out that there were no non smoking nights on formal nights. Is this new? Is it because Grandeur just came back from cruises out of Panama? Has RCCL stopped the non smoking nights on formal nights? For many years, this has been the policy for formal nights. I was really hoping to have a few nights without the awful smell as well as not having to breathe in the second hand smoke.

I don't believe it's a fleetwide rule that the casino must be non-smoking on formal night. Just recently, we were on a cruise where smoking was allowed on formal night in the casino. I can't remember which ship, but it had to be Liberty, Indy, or Monarch.

I seem to recall this not being the case on Oasis, since there was a "nonsmoking section" in the casino. But, of course, a nonsmoking section indoors is like a "non-peeing section" in a pool. :D

Now that's funny.:)

Just a small opinion on the "nonsmoking" casino section of Oasis. The casino is huge. You enter, go down a couple of steps, and then turn either right or left. Can't remember which way, but one half is smoking, the other nonsmoking. It is marked with a big sign. Once away from the immediate area by the steps, you can tell a huge difference, in the air. I really appreciated the nonsmoking section. I had to cross into the smoking section a couple of times, as that was where the cashier's cage was located, and the difference in the air, was huge. I couldn't wait to return to the nonsmoking half. The half and half division on Oasis, and I assume Allure, is certainly much better than a few machines crammed into 1 small corner of the casino. Like most of the other ships offer.

on our last two EN cruises, one was SF for formal nights after 7 pm, the other was not. I will say there were 2 different Captains so maybe it's a Captain's discretion policy?

While that is one of my favorite expressions, the Oasis/Allure casino is not that bad, IMO.

I neither gamble or smoke (yeah for ME!!!!) although I do have some other issues. Anyway, I really dislike even walking through the casino to other venues, so I try to avoid doing so. However, I have noticed that on non smoking nights, the casino appears to be much more crowded than on other evenings. If this is so, I wonder why they do not just make it non smoking to enhance their revenue.

Ship's officers have told us they make more money in the casino when smoking is allowed.

On my recent Freedom cruise, the second formal night was smoke free night in Casino Royale and I thought it was a lot emptier then the other nights when smoking was allowed. The smoke doesn't bother me though so it doesn't matter to me if the casino is smoking or non-smoking.

The whole smoking, non-smoking issue needs to be addressed.

What exempts the casino from the movement to ban all indoor smoking? Honestly, I don't know. Smokers should have outdoor areas to pursue their habit, but why should 80% of the population have to avoid the casino or suffer from the stink?

Honest question!

How do you know when casino is smoke free other than when in port?

I don't gamble and avoid that entire floor, but it would be nice to know so I could consider going to Cinema on Radiance Class since the smoke comes right throw walls into cinema.

MAHA, I hope that it changes before we go on our cruise in December. I thought all RCI ships had no smoking on their formal nights.

I hope it changes before our B2B in late August, too. I thought that non smoking nights were standard on formal nights as well.

One of my favorite things about Celebrity is the non-smoking casinos. As a result I've "donated" far more money to them than I've ever given to RCI. And designating a confined room as non-smoking once or twice a week is useless...it still reeks.

Just got off Grandeur yesterday and asked the Food and Beverage Manager why the casino had smoking even on formal nights.....his answer was that it is not a fleet wide policy, so the Grandeur allows smoking in the casino any night!

Wish that was a fleetwide policy:(

There was a small non-smoking area, but people were smoking in that area, even right next to the "This is a non-smoking area" sign, and none of the casino attendants did anything about it. the non smoking area probably had 10 machines........

I agree!! You should continue to sail on Celebrity - it is the best for the casino w/o smokers!!! All non smokers should sail Celebrity!!!
