Here is why I like to have as many seas days as possible

Recommended Posts

I love looking at Trans Atlantic Itineraries that have sea days one after the other after the other. The Tutti Salad bar in the MDR is one of the major reasons I book an itinerary with many sea days. On my first cruise I enjoyed it so much that I looked for another itinerary with lots of sea days and now this year another one with sea days.

I can't see why people want a port intensive itinerary early breakfasts, MDR closed at lunch man a cruise should have at least 3-5 sea days if not more.

I love hanging out in the Cafe Promenade, attending the art auctions with good Sparkling Wine and going to specialty restaurants like Chops and Portofinos.

There is more time to explore the ship and get to know the staff on sea days.

Relaxing with a good book at the Solarium or just swimming in the pool, relaxing in the sauna and spa or working out.

Then you can enjoy late nights at the Disco without worrying about oversleeping. Enjoy the Viking and Schooner Bar listening to the piano.

A cruise may be transportation but you are getting an all inclusive resort on the sea with no extra resort fees. The drink prices are reasonable and plus for US citizens you are paying in dollars which is a plus.

Relaxing in the library for some peace and quiet or walking the track this is not really possible on port intensive itineraries as you are often too tired to rush back to the cruise.

On my next cruise all ports but one have a sailaway time of 5:00 and dinner is at 7:30 so there is time to enjoy the sailaway and have some pre-dinner drinks as well.

Sea Days are one of the reasons I love cruising over staying at one resort. The fresh air outside and seeing miles of ocean ahead of you. Its so relaxing to be in the middle of the Atlantic swimming or just relaxing. Being able to dance in a disco at sea is fun too.

Some people may be afraid or too claustrophobic to only see the ocean for days but I have not found one moment that I was bored. By the time I had breakfast, walked the track, swam and went to the art show it was lunch time. Then I went back to the room for a nap followed by sitting in the Schooner Bar or Viking Lounge then it was dinner followed by the show and disco dancing.

Agree with much of the OPs post (the most consecutive sea days we have had was 9) except for the comment about Art Auctions (how many ways can we say scam!). And by the way, the sparkling stuff (would not insult wine by calling it wine) they serve at those Art Auctions might cost them $2 a bottle on a bad day.

Hank

P.S. We have a cruise friend who is retired from the world of onboard Art Auctions. He (and his lovely wife) made a lot of money from those auctions. Although he is a friend, I often tell him that I would not buy a used car from the man...and he laughs and agrees. If you ever meet "Big Stu" on a cruise tell him I said hi :)

It would be nice if they would have a cruise without ports. But, I suppose, they make a lot of money on port stops so that'll never happen. I think we had 8 total sea days on our TA and it was great. We were never bored.:)

Well I can't wait till Oct. we have 8 days at sea. Great lots of sleep at the deck.

I only have one worry, that my bag want arrive in Barcelona.

Then it want come till St. Maarten.

Happen twice on TA, but got there just in time.

I am packing a carryon just in case so I have some clothing.

I really enjoy my sea days as well and will be looking to do a TA in 2015.

This upcoming cruise is going to be a shock to my system as I only have one sea day!

I just booked a 13 night Transatlantic on the Independence of the Seas

For May 4th. No single supplement!

I don't mind sea days...but I really don't care to explore....it doesn't take that long!

I don't cruise to "get to know" the staff anymore than I get to know the staff in a hotel!

I do enjoy sitting by the pool, reading, having a drink, etc.....but after a day or two of "relaxation", I'm ready to DO something! Maybe I'm just not that stressed at home, to need multiple days of doing nothing!

The sea days are terrific! TA's are some of the best cruises I ever had. Can't wait. Doug

Some familiar faces on here.

Pollux, can't remember on which ship I sailed with you. Possibly Splendor of the Seas to Lisbon?

Doug, we sailed on the Destiny TA and then the Jade Holy Land from Rome.

I love TAs- love all the sea days

Just to let you know there is no solo supplement on the May 4th 2014 Independence.

It's good that you enjoy the sea days, but there are many different reasons people take a cruise. A Transatlantic can be too expensive for some. Even if the cruise is priced right, one-way airfare can cost more than a round trip ticket to Europe. I've heard of someone who bought a round trip ticket to Europe and did 2 TA cruises months apart. They flew the first flight to Europe and sailed back to the US, then went from the US on the ship back to Europe and flew home on the 2nd flight of the round trip ticket. Then there's the issue of getting time off from work for some people.

For me, I enjoy sailing to islands. My favorite island is CocoCay, and I enjoy relaxing in a hammock under a palm tree and exploring the island. I always like to get nice pictures of the ship from CocoCay. It's hard to get a picture of the ship while onboard or even when it's in some ports, like the port of embarkation/debarkation.

Anyway, that's why they offer different itineraries. You can enjoy your sea days, I can enjoy island hopping, and we both can be happy.

A few months ago I would not have agreed but now I agree 100%. In June I was on my first RCI cruise after 3 cruises with another line and I finally understand people cruising for the ship and not the ports. Loved the ship, loved the Tutti salad bar, loved the leisurely breakfast in the MDR, mini golf, arcade, bingo...just relaxing! Looking at a B2B for the next cruise to maximise sea days :)

I like a nice blend of sea days and port days. An eleven night with five or six ports is just right for me.

On the other hand, my wife would prefer a cruise with no sea days and a different port every day. I have suggested a transatlantic to her and she will have no part of it.

I'm in the early stages of planning a Hawaiian vacation. It looks like it will be a land based vacation since Norwegian is too expensive and Royal has too many days at sea for DW's liking.

I hear you though. I do love those sea days!:D

Hi Gilgo Surfer, we've done 3 TA's, I worried about being bored (but I did worry sbout being bored before our first ever cruise), but i'ts so relaxing, you really chill out and go with the flow, in fact, we've booked the Oasis TA for next year specifically as it only has one port day and 11 sea days,

Love Love Love sea days. get up go to the Windjammer eat go to the pool get some sun and maybe fall asleep. go to 150 for lunch sit and people watch then to the boardwalk for a snack and people watch. followed by the casino then on to the room so no one can see me cry over the money I lost. get ready for dinner pig out in the MDR then the parade on the promenade then to Dazzles or walk through Central Park and enjoy the night then to bed and get up and do it all over again.

How about a 7 night cruise to no ware? Who agrees?

maryann2, yes, I did the TA on the Splendour but was that not several years ago?

This will be about my 12th TA started in 1963 on HAL bad weather and seatbelts in the bunk bed.

Going on TA from Barcelona on the Liberty in Oct.

Getting older and sometime I have senior moments.
