Where Do You Drink Your Bottles of Wine?

Recommended Posts

Now that you can bring 2 bottles of wine onto the ship, I have a question about where people consume it. I understand your balcony is the number one location, followed by bringing it to the dining room. But where else? I’m asking because I have an upcoming cruise on the Majesty and will not have a balcony. Do you now see people sharing a bottle on the sun deck? Are there ship rules covering this?

We always stay in an inside cabin. We have never brought the bottle of wine out of the room. Usually, my DW has a glass while we are getting ready for dinner and then takes a glass with her up to the Viking Lounge where we relax for an hour before dinner and leave the glass behind. She will also take a glass with her after dinner if we go to the show or a lounge and again leave the glass. When we leave the MDR each night, we get two new glasses to replace them. I don't drink wine, so I usually just get a beer when were in the lounges.

If you bring it in a public area thay might charge you a corkage fee, I would just have a glass in your cabin

It's perfectly fine to bring a glass with you to a public area including the MDR and any bar. They neither know nor care where you got it. The bottle should stay in the cabin.

That's pretty well what I thought. Thanks for the reply.

Its ok to have your brought on wine in public areas. The corkage fee can come into play if you have the bottle and consume it in an area that serves alcohol, such as a dining venue or bar. But having it an glass with you avoids this in any location.

We were on the Grandeur "fire cruise". While we sat in port at Freeport the bars were closed the entire time. You could get soda but no liquor of any kind. Our last day on the ship we had 1 bottle of wine left. We went to the Schooner bar, asked staff for glasses and a corkscrew and enjoyed the whole bottle right there in the bar. No problem!

We keep our bottles in the cabin, I will pour a glass while we finish getting ready for dinner, and carry it to the dining room or wherever else we are going before dinner. Mr Chew doesn't drink, but I let him carry my glass for me when we are walking around, especially if I'm wearing heels!

Yes that's exactly what we did too. Kept the wine in the fridge, 'borrowed' a glass from the bar and carried it into dinner each evening.

You wouldn't be charged a corkage fee in a public area - possibly the MDR but no where else.

Having said that - 90% of our wine is consumed in our cabin or on our balcony - sometimes Ill take a glass with me to the casino
