Grumpy100 Posted September 7, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 7, 2013 We are cruising into Malta and heard that it is very beautiful. We are on the starboard side of the ship. Is that the best side of the ship for this port.
Frenchlu Posted September 7, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2013 If I remember rightly the starboard looks over the quay where the cafes are. But there is also a good view of things on the other side too. It is a wonderful port IMHO.There is so much to be seen from the deck on arrival and departure. When we were in Valletta, we were tied up on the port side of our ship. At least according to the pictures I took of the ship in port.
Rare Hlitner Posted September 7, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 7, 2013 In terms of where you want to be as you near the port....get yourself up on a high deck where you have a view of all sides. You want to be topside about an hour before you get to the port since the entire entrance is quite picturesque. Hank

This cruise is nice because the first day is a sea day then Malta then another sea day then three more ports. I like to relax between ports. Rare Keith1010 Posted September 8, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Hank has it right. Get up early and get to the high deck. Your best views of most places around the world are from the open decks not from your verandah. You need to get a nice panoramic view. navybankerteacher Posted September 8, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 8, 2013 The harbor at Valetta is close - and the ship will be moving very slowly in and out - best bet is to get to a high deck, with as much forward view as possible, so you can pick which side (both will be amazing) interests you the most. Meek sure you visit the Street of the Knights. - dating back to the siege of 1565 -when knights from many European countries returned to their order to defend against the invading Ottomans. Rare Essiesmom Posted September 8, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 8, 2013 The best views on sail-in were on starboard, where our balcony was. But the ship turned and docked with port side to the dock. EM
jocap Posted September 9, 2013 #9 Share Posted September 9, 2013 And when you leave- look up from the port side- a man waves a Maltese flag as his goodbye, to every cruise ship, from a rooftop.
Grumpy100 Posted September 10, 2013 Author #10 Share Posted September 10, 2013 Cool we shall do that. That reminds me of when you leave the port in Ft. Lauderdale, FL everyone in the condos lining the waterway wave to you as you leave. Getting very excited.:o:o:o
