Can you take a Guitar on Board

Has anyone ever taken a guitar on a Royal Caribbean Ship? I have tried to get information from RCCL to see if it is allowed, and they say that it is not on the 'banned item list', but they are not sure if it is allowed.

I have not taken on board one myself, but I've seen one go through the scanner at Port Canaveral, so I assume they were taking it on board.

Musical instruments aren't supposed to be allowed....but some do bring them. Please be considerate of others, especially if you think you are better than you really are!

Please do tell us where you see that they aren't supposed to be allowed.

Q: What items are not allowed onboard the cruise ship?

A: Weapons, illegal drugs, and other items that could interfere with the safe operation of the ship or the safe and secure environment of our guests and crew are prohibited. The following are examples of items that guests are not allowed to bring onboard. These and other similar items will be confiscated upon being found. Alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, flammable liquids, explosives, and dangerous chemicals will not be returned..

Prohibited items:

Firearms & Ammunition, including realistic replicas.

Sharp Objects, including all knives and scissors. (Note: Personal grooming items such as safety razors are allowed. Scissors with blade length less than 4 inches are allowed.)

Illegal Drugs & Substances

Candles, Incense, Coffee Makers, Clothes Irons, Travel Steamers & Hot Plates. (Items that generate heat or produce an open flame. This includes heating pads, clothing irons, hotplates, candles, incense and any other item that may create a fire hazard. NOTE: The only exception to this policy are curling irons and hair straighteners. Matches and normal lighteners are allowed onboard. However "torch lighters" and novelty lighters that look like guns are not allowed onboard. Torch lighters emit a powerful concentrated flame, and therefore are prohibited.

Baseball Bats, Hockey Sticks, Cricket Bats, Bows & Arrows

Illegal Drugs

Skateboards & Surfboards

Martial Arts Gear

Self-Defense Gear, including handcuffs, pepper spray, night sticks.

Flammable Liquids and Explosives, including lighter fluid and fireworks.

HAM Radios

Dangerous Chemicals, including bleach and paint.

Alcoholic Beverages (Note: Alcoholic beverages that are purchased in ports-of-call or from shops onboard will be stored by the ship and delivered to you on the last day of the sailing. Alcoholic beverages seized on embarkation day will not be returned.)

While I appreciate your input, your lecture is not appreciated. I do not need to be schooled in manners, but perhaps you do. My husband (who by the way is quite good) wants to play the guitar on our balcony. Why can't people just answer a question without being rude and condescending!

This type of subject matter will bring that out in people when they write their responses. It's expected, appreciated or not. ;) Members here offer parenting advice, travel advice, alcohol advice.... and the list goes on...

I can't imagine why a guitar (or other small musical instruments) would not be allowed. I would find it nice (as long as it wasn't in the middle of the night) to hear some music from the balcony next to me by my cabin neighbor.

Sign me up for the enchanting music from the cabin next door or from the cabin below.....it would be festive.

That is one of the reasons I don't frequent this site. But I do find it a good site to go to in order to get some questions answered. This will be our 10th cruise and questions still come up from time to time. Just wish we all didn't have to deal with people who think they run the cruise ships and everyone else needs to abide by their rules (even if they aren't cruise ship rules!) LOL ):

On one of our cruises, a young boy - 11 or 12 - brought a guitar aboard and carried it with him everywhere he went. We often saw him sitting on various staircases playing songs. (Surprisingly, people sometimes gave him money, which he accepted.) One day while enjoying our balcony, we heard the sound of his guitar coming from a balcony nearby. Immediately, voices from other balconies began shouting, "Shut up" and "Put that guitar away" . . . among other things! We found it quite amusing to listen to the verbal exchanges, none of which were positive. I should mention that, unfortunately, the boy was not a very good musician at all!

Never travel without my guitar & have never had a problem. Acoustic & electric with a small practice amp are standard when I travel.

I'm pretty sure I've seen other people on the ship with thier instments, too. Take it. They can't cite a reason why you can't.

Have fun!

You sound like my husband minus the amp. He has a travel size Martin - sorry don't know the proper name - that goes on vacation with us always - land or sea. It makes him happy to be able to quietly play while I go to the casino!:)

because you may end up disturbing others while doing so. and quite frequently people DO Need schooling on manners and what is and is not appropriate behavior.

sure he may be a decent player of classical guitar. but that doesn't mean others enjoying their balconies want to hear him play. or the family with the infant in the cabin next to you who desperately needs a nap but is disturbed by the noise, however pleasant.

Instruments are not banned but neither are they particularly welcome or encouraged.

Don't let some of these folks around here lecture you.

Play it in your cabin or get permission to play the guitar in a empty lounge. When I am sitting on my balcony day or night all I want to hear is the sounds of the ship cutting through the ocean blue. :)

I have to agree. Or maybe on deck 4 outdoors or up on 12 above the pool. The balcony is a bad idea it would intrude on other passengers private space.
