argenta01 Posted December 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 24, 2013 Can anyone recommend an 'affordable' hotel in Vancouver for pre-cruise accommodations? Preferably something that has a shuttle from the airport to the hotel, as well as to the cruise port. Thanks

Thanks You probably won't find a hotel in Vancouver that has both .The airport is about 30 from downtown . The best way is to look online for Vancouver. Most affordable hotels will be near the airport and have shuttles to the hotel. You can also purchase a private shuttle from the airport hotels to the cruise port for about $15 CDN. Philob Posted December 24, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 24, 2013 (edited) You might want to check out the Canada Port of Call forum http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=39 There's a few where to stay/do/eat Vancouver threads there. Also to consider as transport between an airport hotel (in Richmond, BC) to Canada Place (cruise terminal) is by Skytrain (subway), which costs about $4 pp. Canada Place is about a two block walk from the subway station. CruiserBruce Posted December 24, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 24, 2013 Also look at TripAdvisor, Cruise Critic's sister site. They have tons of hotel reviews and recommendations. It is what they specialize in.
RickT Posted December 24, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 24, 2013 There is a Ramada and Holiday Inn near the airport. Depending on time of year the rates are around $100-125 per night. I'm guessing these will be cheaper than anything you'll find near the pier. You may also want to see if you can get any hotel offers through your airline. I know Air Canada sometimes has hotel offers and would guess that others do as well. Someone already mentioned checking out the ports thread. You'll find good info there on hotels as well as transport to the pier.
wwcruisers Posted December 24, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 24, 2013 (edited) Also look at TripAdvisor, Cruise Critic's sister site. They have tons of hotel reviews and recommendations. It is what they specialize in. Great advice -- I won't even make reservation anymore, without first vetting the hotel on TripAdvisor. However, when it comes down to the specifics of choosing a pre/post cruise hotel, you can get answers/advice on these boards that might not be available on TA. Edited December 24, 2013 by wwcruisers
MCC retired Posted December 24, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 24, 2013 Stay downtown , much to see & do in addition to being close to the pier . $$$ but more interesting than staying out at the airport . Yes, check Trip Advisor for sure .
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 24, 2013 #8 Share Posted December 24, 2013 I second CruiserBruce's recommendation. My experience is that you get a much wider range of hotels by looking at TripAdvisor. Once you narrow it down then come over to the ports of call board to see if anyone has stayed at the ones you are considering. Keith
JimS4210 Posted December 24, 2013 #9 Share Posted December 24, 2013 We're staying at Carmana Plaza on Alberni St. in downtown Vancouver for two nights before our cruise. It got good reviews on both TripAdvisor and Hotels.com. The price was pretty reasonable and it seems to be a short cab ride to Canada Place. BKFlowerMound Posted December 26, 2013 #10 Share Posted December 26, 2013 Last summer, we stayed at the Sheraton in Richmond, which had a free airport shuttle. By staying in Richmond, we got a book of free attraction passes from tourismrichmond.com that covered most popular Vancouver area attractions. It saved us hundreds of $$$. Additionally, hotels in Richmond are at least half the price that they are in downtown Vancouver. We took the Canada Line of the Skytrain in and out of Vancouver (30 minutes) including to get to the ship. Richmond - which we expected to be little more than a typical suburb - was a pleasant surprise as it felt "foreign" to us. More than half the residents are Asian-born. You'll see good Asian restaurants, markets, and things like people doing tai chi in the parks and shopping malls. But getting in and out of Vancouver was easy as well.
