Analyzing the new tier level requirements

For passengers sailing inside or ocean view cabins, 150 nights at sea would be required as opposed to 80 nights with RCI.

Isn't it astonishing that Celebrity didn't do analyses like this prior to inventing the new system? Even after spending so much time on it, so many niggling things pop up tha make us wonder what they were thinking

FWIW; my take (and I'm not alone) is that Elite+ is too high at 750 (600 might be better) and there should be an extra tier - maybe "Ultimate" - at around the 1200-1500 mark.

 

Of course the danger of us chatting about this is the suits in Miami could easily decide to revamp the RCL C&A system to mirror the "X" CC one!

Those are my thoughts too about an extra tier. I think many, many people will never hit Zenith.

I have sailed on RCCL one time and then Celebrity. I would rather sail for 150 nights on X than 80 on RCCL. I don't know if RCCL gives bonus credits for the different categories and if not that may be the reason.

 

But that is a problem on why there are so many Elite Passengers sailing on X. It always appears as if the majority of the passengers that I talk to in the Elite lounge are crossovers from RCCL and many being on X the first time.

It would have been nice if they had a tier for people who have gained all of their points with Celebrity. ( Not RCL ) That`s where their loyal fans are.

Now would be a good time to combine Royal Caribbean points with Celebrity Captain's Club system as it is own by the same parent company. Celebrity allows Azamara points to be combined but not Royal Caribbean points.

Yes. They would have a courtesy Elite status while starting at Zero to accrue Celebrity points

I agree with you Azamara, RCCL and Celebrity are owned by the same parent company. They allow Azamara's points to be combined with Celebrity's but not RCCL. We are D+ in RCCL and although we are Elite in paper, will have over 300 points after our next cruise. Still, many points away from Elite + :(:(

We will never make Zenith either, so we are now starting to look at other cruise lines, particularly river cruises. There is no incentive any more.

First off - Arno - thank you for the excellent analysis.

 

While I'm very appreciative of the new levels & benefits, I'd love to see Celebrity consider adding a level between Elite Plus & Zenith. I'm fine with 750 points for Elite plus, but once you get there, it's seems as if you are at the bottom of the mountain, needing to make a huge climb to the top, once again.

 

While the Zenith benefits are absolutely fantastic, and we aren't far away from getting to the promised land :)... it's a very long haul to get there, once you've become Elite Plus. At that point, there's not much incentive to reach Zenith. Hopefully, Celebrity will get creative, and create new ways to earn points. One item suprisingly missing, is points for onboard spending. I also feel some sort of bonus point system should be created for frequent casino players. They can also do tie-in's to purchases with the Celebrity Visa card. The possibilities are endless, with some creativity.

An Horizon level would seem ideal somewhere between 1,500 and 2,000 pts or any level that would encourage cruisers to continue sailing on Celebrity beyond D+ .

Not meaning to demean your comment, but not to worry - what you get for Elite+ versus Elite is worth so little it is hardly worth worrying about. But I understand - it is frustrating conversely that we can only get Diamond on RCCL but are Elite+ on X.

You can’t compare the two systems in this manner because the accumulation formula is different. The points are not equal.

 

A typical 7 night RCCL cruise can net you no more than 14 points ( if one is in any suite, even the top suite). That same 7 night cruise on Celebrity can get you as many as 126 points. Diamond status (80 pts) on RCCL can be reached on no fewer than 40 nights at sea, and no more than 80 nights at sea. Elite status (300 points) on Celebrity can be reached by as few as 17 nights in the top suite.

It is far better to provide an intermediate reward as Arno suggests, rather than make people feel as if they are already defeated, that they will never reach the mountain top.

Nice job putting all this together it is interesting. This is my opinion. When you compare the two programs before the changes they were even more out of sync in the other direction.

 

A brief analysis of your data and the data from the previous program indicates to me that RCL/Celebrity were not previously nor currently attempting to align the programs.

 

Under the previous Celebrity program it was amazing easy to gain points and tier levels. I suspect this was done to attach passengers since they were introducing 5 large ships. I believe the program was effective and many RCCL customers tried Celebrity cruises.

 

The new Celebrity program obviously moved to days instead of a sailing model. Your charts truly indicate that inside/OV cruisers will gain points significantly slower than under the previous program and RCL's program. It is also true with the balcony cruisers, but not to the same degree.

 

Your chart also clearly shows that CC and above on Celebrity will earn you points at a much higher rate than RCCL. Perhaps this is because Celebrity wishes to add additional value to CC and above categories.

 

IMO the differences are by design.
