Alcohol package ruby

It was tested on the Star and Sapphire and has apparently been expanded to the Royal and perhaps another ship. It's $49/pp/day plus 15% gratuity, and everyone in the cabin 21 years old and older must purchase, under 21 must purchase an Ultimate drink card/sticker. I believe it's being offered only on 7-day cruises or longer.

This will be available on Royal, Crown, Emerald, Coral, Star and Sapphire from the next turn around. I am sure most of the rest will follow shortly

People have already reported it being available on the Emerald already. Luckily we'll be on her in May.

Does anyone else have confirmation that the alcohol drinks package is now available on the Emerald? Sailing in July from Southampton

I have been advised from the next turnaround however someone has posted it's on the emerald now. Definitely will be available in July

Many do know that some other lines (like Celebrity) have had a lot of success marketing their drink packages. What many do not know is that they have been quite profitable for the cruise lines. But here is a question some frequent cruisers might want to consider. How much is your usual bar bill on a cruise? Or, "do you normally spend over $112 per day (per couple) on drinks?" DW and I have been cruising for a long time and do enjoy drinking and wine. But it is rare that we could even spend that much in a single day...given the restrictions that are on drink packages. And one needs to consider that the typical cruiser spends a lot less on drinks during port days then sea days.

What Celebrity has done with their package is use it as a great marketing tool. When packaged as a booking promo, it is possible to get the drink packages at a substantial discount. Yes, they do seem to increase the price of the cruise during their promos...but the increases are generally a lot less then the retail cost of the package.

Do you know if both in the cabin must purchase the package? I have heard from one post that they have dropped that requirement.

Hank our average spend is $100 a day but that would include a dinner or two. We have the free package on Celebrity in April. I'm really looking forward to it to see if it would be worthwhile buying it on Princess as it's really not much of a stretch from what we already spend

From my understanding, the only restriction on Princess's package is anything over $10 per drink - which only a handful are - some wines by the glass and some higher end scotches. As it includes bottled waters, specialty coffees, etc (any beverage under $10), I think it is easy to get your money worth and cover the cost. For DH and I, figure, a couple of bottles of water daily, a few drinks each by the pool, a drink or too (wine) with dinner and drinks in the theatre, casino and club at night. We have in the past spent pretty close or over on our bar tab to this, and now we won't have to worry with each drink we are charging.

We actually loved the Classic Package on the Eclipse, but would have lost money if we had paid the full price for the package (we got it as part of a promo). I am not sure if DW and I would ever spend $100 a day on drinks (when averaged over a full cruise). If we have a port day we would normally have a drink before dinner, wine at dinner, and usually a drink after dinner. Not sure that would justify having to actually pay the $112 of a package. And with the package it also mean I would have to make some compromises (I did this on Celebrity) and order a cheaper brandy/cognac and drink a less desirable scotch. DW actually does better with the packages because she can get her cosmos (she does not care about the brand of vodka), Amaretto and some drinkable wine.

We probably do well with the packages on sea days when I will drink a lot more then on a port day. In the final analysis it just comes down to each person's own drinking habits.

Going on the Island in April. Anyone know if the program has been added on her? Just finished a week on the Sapphire and would have made out OK using the package. Ordered several pre paid packages of beer through room service and that cut down the bill.

Just wondering what Scotch Princess carries that isn't covered under this plan. I didn't think they offered high-end scotch. You can get Glenlivet 12 and Glenfidich 12 or even Chevas Regal (although I'm not sure why one would order that) for under the $10 limit on Princess. Do they actually offer higher end scotch?

Is there one available ?

Very timely question for us, as well. We're boarding the Ruby on the 29 March sailing, does anyone have any current intel on whether the package has been, or would be, rolled out on the Ruby for its 5 day trips, or is it only for 7+ day trips?
