RCCL-Savings Seats Policy?

 Share

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what RCCL policy is regarding saving seats?

We've gone into Diamond Events and seen one individual savings 12+ seats...leaving ourselves, plus others with no where to sit. This doesn't make sense to me.

I would be curious to know what the actual policy is regarding saving seats.

Thank you for your replies :-)

It's discouraged. On some ships that I have been on, announcements have been made not to save seats. On others, no announcements. Much like other issues, the cruise line depends on the passengers to police themselves.

For your example, I would have very little patience for that individual (especially for a Diamond event). I would have sat in the furthest seats from him/her that he/she was attempting to save.

There is a no saving seats policy in the theater. Is it ever enforced? Only when someone will dare to sit in one of the "saved" seats!

The problem here is common courtesy. Would I save 12 seats? Absolutely not. Would you save 12 seats? No. The problem is with those with the "It's all about me" attitude. RCCL needs to enforce the policy. Do they? Rarely!

We usually arrive early enough that there is no problem finding seats. But, if we got there later and all the seats were taken except for the #*$% person 'saving' seats, I would just sit in them. I ignore the protests and tell them to call Security and tell their protest to them. While they are piggy, they do really know that they are not supposed to be saving seats. So that is usually the end of it.

And with that, the individual will probably tell their group that he/she will "....never save seats again!"

Someone actually took my husbands seat while he was in the bathroom. They told me that I wasn't allowed to save him a seat. When he came back, he said very loudly, you're sitting in my chair, I thought it better to use the bathroom than go here. They very quickly moved!

LOL... I think there's a whole big difference between saving a seat for someone going to restroom ( a few minutes ) and saving 12 seats for people who have never been there. It's kind of like I don't mind saving a person's place in line if they have to use the restroom, but I wouldn't save a 12 places for people who've never been in line.

We had an interesting thing happen on our last cruise.

We were standing in line (pretty near the front) for MTD. There were a couple of slightly older ladies looking around confused, one of them in a wheelchair. So, we asked the people behind us several places back if they minded if we let them cut in. No one minded at all. So we offered. They gladly accepted then called to the 23 other people in their party that were just getting off the elevator. Needless to say those of us now behind them were a little taken aback. As it turns out MTD seating goes pretty quickly when it first opens so it wasn't an issue, but we felt a little taken advantage of.

In OP's case I would have asked if we could sit in a couple of seats until their party arrives then we'd give them back. We typically only stay in the lounge for a couple of drinks anyway then go on to dinner so chances are we'd be leaving by the time their party arrived anyway. But, if not, that's less time we'd have to stand so win-win. Empty chairs don't do anyone any good.

Being rude to someone being rude doesn't make you any less of a jerk. There has to be a better solution than trying to pick a fight.

Fortunately, people in the Diamond Lounges don't typically save 12 seats so this is kind of a special circumstance.

I remember once when hubby and I had grabbed lunch in the WJ....and there were NO seats to be found! Well, I spotted a large table with only 2 folks sitting there, so I asked if they minded if we joined them....they said they had a large party coming. I told them that there were no seats, and we would move when their party arrived.....they were NOT happy (lots of heavy sighing and eye-rolling)....we finished our lunch and the expected party had never shown...finally, the 2 people left, leaving us the table to ourselves! Oh, well!

This hits home....

We arrived 30-minutes early (DW & I) for good seats at a show. There were 4-girls about 12 years old saving at least 15-seats. We picked the two we wanted and encouraged other people to join us. I did feel like a grownup bully, but never exchanged a word with the kids other than politely stating saving seats was not allowed. When the "Family" arrived, the parents were verbally cruel to the kids for not saving the seats, but they all managed to find seats and never spoke to any of the six of us that took the seats the kids were saving.

Never really seen an issue at any RCCL loyalty event. What was the event and where was it held that seating was so limited?

I have seen folks try to save half a row in the theater and save several loungers at the pool, but that is it.

Then official rule is " no seat saving is permitted" but folks do it all the time. It has never been an issue for us, we simply find an available seat elsewhere.

Enjoy

M

Poor kids - shame on the parents

Mom and I were on a cruise last December -- The Allure -- this was for the Planet show where we wanted to sit closer to the front than normal. Normally, we take the seats in the back (in the assisted area) because she uses a walker. We got there very early, and waited. Of course the crowd pushed through (almost over us) to get prime seats. We worked our way down to an area (not right up front) where 2 ladies were trying to save an entire row (or close to it). Mom needed to be on the end, so I sat her down in the isle seat and went to sit next to her, when this lady actually threw herself across the three seats next to mom -- yelling... THESE SEATS ARE SAVED!!. I looked at her and laughed. Ok.. it was funny.. here is this 60 something lady, trying to not fall off these seats. It was funny... so I walked past her... sat in the seat at her feet.. and said -- FINE you can sit next to my mom... she snores really loud during shows!! With that the lady got up grumbling... the crowd around me applauded... and others then filled in the seats in that row. The ladies had their seats and seats for their husbands... but no more. When her husband arrived and their group came in she was telling him loudly what happened -- and a nice man behind them said.. 'And it was funnier than the comedy show!! Your wife really mad an a** of herself' This same nice man came over to mom after the show... offered his arm and helped her back up the steps. And whenever I saw the lady on the ship she did make me smile (laugh)!! All kidding aside... I don't like people trying to hold rows of seats. Hold one for your spouse or friend... but really... holding 10 or 12 seats -- I always hope someone sits right in the middle of the group. PS... mom never falls asleep in a show :)

I mentioned on the Celebrity forum once that I'd saved my wife's seat after she left it to go grab some stuff from one of the shops. No one on the ship seemed to mind. It was her coat on the chair. But, did I ever get blasted on Cruise Critic. I still think it's OK to save a single seat in the theater for your family member. A whole row should require a half rows worth of people saving not one person regardless how zealous she may be.

I do find it frustrating to try and find a seat by the pool when they are all reserved but nobody is there.

I agree! But we stayed at Disneys Aulani last year and their policy on saving pool chairs is that every hour attendants fold the towels over the back of the chairs and if the towels haven't been moved the next time they come by, they take all personal items off the chair and bring them to the attendants office. I saw it done many times.... Once to the family that hogged 4 chairs next to me in the shade. The father was livid when they finally all came out, but he never did it again while I was there. RCCL should do that, it works!

OMG first time on allure in 2011 was sitting behind a couple in the theater waiting for chicago to start. tHey were saving 9 seats. everyone that asked can they sit there, the couple said no. Finally a man and his wife sat down,( the lights had already dimmed and the show was about to start) the couple that was saving seats started yelling and the man that sat down. He calmly said there are no saving seats allowed, much less saving 9. The couple were still arguing then called the wife a b*tch and an ugly wh*re. IT was crazy, i just sat back amazed.

I don't see anything wrong with saving a seat for one person....however, when people try to save more then 4 seats max...I think that is rude. Not wanting to be rude...we'll try to find another seat elsewhere. However, if there is no seats to be found, I liked the response that one poster listed......"sit down and thank the person for saving them seats." We may just do that.. :-)

It's not uncommon to find over 500 Diamond and above members on board a Transatlantic cruise and this is when available seats become a problem at the nightly Diamond events.

Thanks for all your comments. :-)

kind of like watching the dog chase it's tail...you are never going to make people happy...yes there are signs...espically at the pool...other places on ship i can't remember...but the bull**** that goes on at the pool is just short of ugly...and until the pool police enforce the rule the same garbage will continue...i am typically a very early riser and will head up to the pool deck and stake claim to my chair and one for the honey who is still tucked in bed snoring...is it right no...i should not save any seats but my wife will typically show up before 9am any way...the practice that goes on with some folks is just short of rudeness...a towel here...a book there...a flip on this chair and another on the next chair...a hat on the next chair and then the 3 bottles of sun tan lotion on the next 3 chairs and then a pair of sun glasses...and at 11am none of the chairs have been touched by human bodys...THIS IS DEAD WRONG...but until the pool police enforce this nonsense it will continue and folks will come to pool deck and will not be able to sit where they want...if anyone questions when all of this is done...typically between 6 and 7am...when most of us a still asleep...ENFORCE what you say are the rules...if not the dog will continue to chase its tail...and folks will continue to save seats...pool...winjammer...show room...bar...if we sail with a large group i tell them...you want a seat at the pool...get out of bed...or at the very least send you husband or wife...i'm out

My opinion, there is nothing rude or socially incorrect when one holds a seat for his/her traveling partner (anywhere on the ship). I would even extend this to a family where dad and one sibling are holding two seats for mom and the other sibling.

Where it crosses the line is where one person is sent to hold 6 or more seats for their extended family reunion participants or their 7 or 8 "friends" who are in the casino trying to win back their losses before the show.

Regarding the confrontations....say what you want to me, but call my children and wife ugly names, you and I are going to step outside and have a dialogue.
