GreenValleyDogWalker Posted May 26, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2014 Hi - Just realized that I should be posting "live" (instead of trying to remember all that I wanted to post in my review !).. Boarded in Boston on Friday - we are AFT penthouse Suite (what used to be the "Romance Suites) so check in was quick and easy...our Concierge is John D'Souza - not really all the special - he handed us off to someone to "escort" us to Cagney's when we boarded (not really a big deal) - he did help with our -golf shore excursion to Port Royal yesterday (awesome !) - but wasn't able to give us accurate information on the Ferry Service to St.George today (today is Bermuda Day - big holiday here - he didn't know if ferry service was running or not (the rep at the Customer Service Desk gave us bad information too.. Dinner first night at the Teppanyaki Restaurant - our favourite - it was wonderful - we went at 5:30 - only one other couple there ! Dinner second night at Cagneys' very nice - again, not crowded at all Dinner last night at La Cucina (Italian) don't understand why the bad reviews.. Dinner tonight at Moderno (Brazilian Steakhouse) just OK This is the second time we have taken this cruise (Boston-Bermuda) last time never ate dinner in either one of the dining rooms - just ate in the Speciality restaurants - was so glad they offered the "ultimate dining package" this time ! Love our Butler ! - Akhmad - leaves us wonderful "snacks" every day.. Saw Patti and Jose last night - tonight was some awful acrobatic thingy in the Stardust Theatre - we (along with several others) left after the first 5 minutes tonight room stewart (can't remember his name - very quiet - very efficient ) left the "stuff the laundry bag" deal - $27.95 for all you can fit in the bag - laundry will be back in 2 days.. All I can think of for now - let me know if anyone has questions...
JPV072900 Posted May 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 27, 2014 How was the Ferry service getting to/from St. George? Did you stay at St. George all day? Did you take in the caves or the BMAZ? Any busses? How was the weather? I told my wife I felt bad for those cruising out of Boston on Friday. Did you have better weather on Saturday? How's your room? Hope you have a great trip :-)

meglet Posted May 27, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 27, 2014 We'll be in an aft penthouse deck 10 in July. Surprise for my SO. How was the motion on the speedy ride to BDA from Boston? Oh. And is "crepe guy" still in the garden buffet? He's very special to me.

Rare mking8288 Posted May 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 27, 2014 (edited) Loved those "little" islands - are you using ship's satellite internet? Or, are you using Dockyard's WiFi with the day pass? Others reported that it was fine to connect but nearly impossible to connect to sites & load web pages - not sure if that's speed and/or bandwidth, or both ?? Much obliged for posting & sharing your joy. Cheers ! Edited May 27, 2014 by mking8288
Rileyz Posted May 27, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 27, 2014 Not even joking here but I sailed 2 weeks ago and John (concierge) also gave us bad ferry information and caused us to miss the first ferry over to St. George. I chalked it up to it being the first week of the itinerary but I guess not! Was an awesome trip regardless.

racepoint Posted May 27, 2014 #10 Share Posted May 27, 2014 My sister, Vikki, is onboard this week, too, celebrating her 50th with her husband, Jim. They're traveling with qroup of 8 or so. (I wish I would have been one of them.) I'll keep checking back to your blog to see how the cruise is going.

Tyskie Posted May 27, 2014 #12 Share Posted May 27, 2014 (edited) Thanks for posting your live report. Such a great trip and loved the Dawn, we had an aft balcony which was awesome for me, haven't tried the suite life yet :p Golfing at Port Royal was the highlight of our trip and our actual destination. We booked thru Golf Now, took a cab there and came back via bus. I guess the only negative I found was the limited bus/ferry service on Sunday and most places being closed. (We made it a beach day) Was anything special going on for Bermuda day? Enjoy!! :) Edited May 27, 2014 by Tyskie

We love these AFT rooms - was a little rocky on the way over - but not that bad - weather has been great since we got here - Hmmm- haven't been to the garden buffet - if we happen to pass by - it is loud and crowded !! They installed new carpet in the main atrium area this morning (it WAS looking a little worn) - some other areas of the ship could stand some refurbishing - but certainly not going to spoil our cruise !! Enjoy!! :) There was supposed to be a BIG parade in Hamilton on Bermuda Day (yesterday) -- we went to St. George instead Took the ferry to Hamilton today (piece of cake - certainly the way to go) Shopped for a couple of hours - then took ferry back Had a nice, quiet, quick lunch at the Blue Lagoon - that place still sort of an "unknown" to a lot of people - seems to always be quiet (especially at breakfast) Dinner at Le Bistro tonight.... He wasn't at breakfast (at Cagney's) this morning - (like he promised he would be EVERY day !) - so no chance to tell him that the ferry was running just fine, thank you, even with an EXTRA ferry... so really not a big deal - just kind of disappointed in the "service" - last time we did this trip we had a really wonderful concierge - can't remember her name (!) - Victoria, maybe ?? GreenValleyDogWalker Posted May 27, 2014 Author #18 Share Posted May 27, 2014 Has any info been posted on the ship or in Bermuda regarding the warning issued in March that the South Shore Beaches tested for contamination? WOW !! - no = haven't seen anything ! - We are not beach people, however (well - we live on the beach in California for years - guess we've had our fill).. I'll look around the shore excursion desk tonight... Seems like there were a lot of people that went to the beach yesterday and today...
Susie51 Posted May 27, 2014 #19 Share Posted May 27, 2014 Thank you for your live review. Two years ago we were in Bermuda in early June and the water was cold. Does the water warm up in late summer?
margie1221 Posted May 27, 2014 #20 Share Posted May 27, 2014 Stayed in the water floating around and body surfing for about an hour last week (Sunday, May 18th) at Horseshoe Bay Beach. Water was definitely clear and warm enough for us!! Rented two chairs $11 each with a refundable $5 deposit each. Both of us dozed off for awhile in the sun - not too crowded until mid-afternoon. Very relaxing. Absolutely beautiful first day in Bermuda on the Dawn!! No other ship in port this day made a big difference.
maun Posted May 27, 2014 #21 Share Posted May 27, 2014 Are there extra ferries going to St. George? Last time we went to Bermuda we went to St. George on Monday and the line for the ferry was long. How much are the bus passes this year? Looking at the web cam this week, the weather in Bermuda looked beautiful. We'll be going a week from Friday and are hoping for sunshine and blue skies. Was it very humid? Thanks for the info. ~~Maun
Barb Nahoumi Posted May 27, 2014 #22 Share Posted May 27, 2014 Just watched you sail away from Bermuda, on your way back to Boston. The Grandeur of the Seas, followed soon afterward. We love to watch Jose & Patti, when we're aboard the Dawn. Many times we'll skip the performance in the Stardust, to listen to them. Enjoy the rest of your cruise.
