Do they also come in black for formal night? ;-)

Honestly, why would an adult, not hospitalized, would want to wear a RCI wristband for the duration of a cruise? Might help if you get lost on Barbados for locals to figure out where you belong to, but other than that, I would not be thrilled about wearing a big blue wristband for days or even weeks.

Not thrilled here!

Enterprise

Cptn. Picard: "Computer. Where is Lt.Cmd. Data?"

Computer: "Lt.Cmd. Data is on Holodeck 2."

Quantum of the Seas

Mrs. Miller: "Computer. Where is my Hubby Mr. Miller?"

Computer: "Mr. Miller is in the Stateroom 1419, the Stateroom of Mrs. Smith."

WOW ... thank's to the benefits of RFID-Tags.

Sea Pass card for me.

  • don't want the tan line
  • don't like wearing anything on my wrist that gathers sweat under it
  • don't want to tap on/tap off (if that is how it will work) to have my play tracked in the Casino
  • don't want to be readily identified when on shore as a tourist

We just returned from Disney and used the Magic Band for the first time...at first I was apprehensive, but soon found how convenient they were.

One thing I hope RCI does that Disney did, was have you enter all your personal info such as credit card for expenses and set your pin# online, and then receive your Magic bands in the mail, programmed and ready to go before starting your vacation...made check in a breeze.

Also, and this may be pertinent to getting on and off the ship....at Disney when entering a park, you held your magic band up to the scanner, then had to read your finger print from your index finger....also peeked at the monitor and there is a screen where your photo would be displayed....but Disney is not using the photo method, but does use the fingerprint scanner.

I hope they have an option for a card AND the band. I can see some times where I'd want to skip the card and just have everything I need on my wrist, but other times I don't want to have the fashion equivalent of a hair tie on my arm. Would be nice to be able to remove the bracelet and grab your card instead when you want to.

You don't have to wear the band all the time. It can be carried with you. Plenty of people carry them in their bags at Disney rather than wearing them. Take it out when you need to use it. Put it in a bag or pocket when you don't need it. Not that much different than a card, which you have to dig out anyway.

That said, give me the ability to tap into my cabin rather than dig out a card any day - be it tapping a card or tapping a bracelet. At least with Disney's KTTW card you don't even have to remove it from the lanyard to tap in (for those of us who don't mind wearing a lanyard).

You realize unless you are from the islands or the destination you are going you look like an outsider. I mean if you go to Jamaica you are pretty much labeled as a tourist right from the beginning. So looking like a tourist should not even be a worry because you more then likely already stand out hell I know I stand out and I'm your average 27 year old white American. I would have to try to change the way I dress and all to even blend in with how people dress in St Thomas and that is a USVI.

As for me the only thing I like about the band is that it may be water proof and I do not have to worry about taking my card out of my bathing suit pocket anymore. The down side is when I go diving I have to take the band off because it will not fit under a wetsuit or during formal night when I wear a suit it may not fit under my long sleeve shirts.

I am not paranoid nor do I think my life is so special that everyone wants to know what I am doing. I do not like the idea of giving Royal, or anyone else for that matter, free marketing data on how and in what PUBLIC venues I choose to spend my time while on vacation. It will only take a couple of well places ‘150ft’ sensors on a ship to collect what time I like to go to lunch, what time I like to be at the pool, what shows do I go and see, etc. They have no access to that data now with a seapass card unless I choose to use it. It will only be a matter of time before they begin to use this data and find a way to upcharge you.

As too taking it off while not using it, I think it is a lot easier to lose a band from it falling out of your pocket than a card or for that matter a lot easier to steal.

I would hate it. Only because I wear a watch on one wrist and can't stand anything on the other.

I agree. Wouldn't want to wear that thing

I don't care if they know where I'm at on the ship, especially if there' s an emergency.

I wonder if they will be personalized with our names like the Disney ones. I hope it's true because I never know what to do about carrying my card around on the ship. I don't carry a purse onboard.

They said the same thing about the intro of "Easy Pass" when introduced. The authorities will know if you speed when going from one location to another--hogwash. My concern is the tan line on my wrist. LOL

From DH. Relax. For those concerned about privacy, there are shielding wallets and small pouches that block all incoming and outgoing signals. They came out, to defend against chip readers carried by criminals, when credit cards starting putting chips in.

I don't see it that way. Since any upcharging wouldn't be passenger specific, but applicable to all (unless you really think that the charges for drinks will vary by passenger) then they already have that data just by counting heads and looking at what gets drunk at a particular bar, no need to know where Mr Smith is.

Knowing what time pax in general go to eat or to the pool is important, it helps them set up shows, waiter service etc, but again they don't need to know about you in specific, they just need to count heads, which they can already do. And as you have already said, if you use your card, well then they know that specific data already. (and have your photo, and credit card details as well as knowing where you sleep at night)

So I go to the show at night, along with a thousand other people, and halfway through I, and loads of other people, start to drift out in the dark because the show is not up to par. A 150ft sensor will pick this trend up and do two things. 1, let the hotel manager know that the bars are about to be hit early - hey they might shuffle staff to help out and make service quicker - so a win for me and the other the pax. 2. let the CD know that the show needs work or changing and thus result in better shows, again a win for the pax. What's the down side? Well if RCI have an IT staff of 30 on hand, they can figure out what Mr Smith is doing. Really, you think they wanna go there? (and have the staff around just to check up and follow the non-special people?)

Wow, all these posts are too funny. I have been to Disney. I have used these bands. These bands are a choice, not a requirement.

Some facts:

1. Both the card and the band has a chip in it. Your passport also has a chip in it. Basically, if you are on the ship, and you really believe big brother is watching your every move, than don't get it, but you still will be watched by all the cameras, and the sea pass card. Allure and Oasis already uses this.

2. This is not a paper taped bracelet you get. It is plastic, snaps on and off, and does not need to be worn all the time, like sleeping or taking pictures. Since I have been on too many cruises to be worried about a picture, it won't bother me.

3. Read previous posts about people wondering how to carry their card. Guess what, they now have a solution. Wear it. (remember, this is optional!)

4. Casino - how many times do you see people leaving their sea pass card in a slot machine? This solves the issue.

5. Ladies - leave you room, and you have no pockets in your swimwear. What do you do? Guys often still have a pocket, but ladies, you don't. Here is your solution! You still can get back to your room, buy a drink, and go swimming without the worry of misplacing your card.

So this is optional, solves many issues for some people, while letting others chose. It is a win win plan and remember, someone is watching you!!!!!!!
