Walking to cruise ship in Port Everglades

Can we walk from the hotels on 17th St. to the cruise ship docked in Port Everglades? We don't have much luggage, and we very much enjoyed walking from Condado to the cruise ship last year at the Pan American Pier in San Juan.

Port Everglades is not set up for walkers. There are limited sidewalks and lots of truck traffic. If your ship is docked in the north port area it may be doable but is it a fairly long way to the mid port area. Walking is not a good idea.

You can walk to Terminal 2/4 (commonly used by Princess). Otherwise, not really.

Take a look at a Google satellite map - you can see how industrial the area is and some of it lacks sidewalks. The other thing to consider is the weather. Should you be visiting in the summer (and it is a long summer :p), the heat and humidity can be miserable (that is coming from someone who walks 2 miles every day but always first thing in the morning).

Well, I'd ask WHY do you want to? Cab fare is less than $15 from the hotels on 17th St. Not a wallet buster.

Or are you asking just because you think a "nice walk" before all the eating would be good excercise?;)

 

As mentioned the walk is not the most pleasant. And you'll be going thru security and tons of traffic to be wary of. Buses, huge trucks, cars included. And some that just don't pay attention to walkers in the area.

Without any luggage to carry and pull, it would be a "heads up" walk. Pulling any bags along would take more effort.

But yes, you can walk into the port area.

For most of the ships it is a long walk. On our last FLL cruise we met some people who were on one Holland ship, got off of it and walked to ours (Holland). They said even that was too far a walk.

 

Take a cab. As others have said, no more than $15 to 20, including tip from most nearby hotels.

We walked from La Concha. We found the walk there to be very pleasant, so we were hoping for the same in Port Everglades. Has nothing to do with saving money. Too bad it's not pleasant, but thank you all for the information.

Agree...take a taxi...in addition to all the reasons mentioned above..there is a LOT of construction work going on now around Port Everglades.

We usually have a Budget rental car. I drop DW and luggage off at terminal 2, then take car back to the Budget on 17th Street at the Quay Shopping Center. This is located in the plaza next to the Renaissance Hotel. I then walk to Terminal 2 which is about 1/2 to 2/3's of a mile. Easy walk with a Walgreens on the corner where I pick up some last minute items. Just make sure you have ID when you walk through checkpoint. I never had a problem.

The distance is walkable, but as others have stated...it is FAR from walker friendly. Which is really too bad! We are definitely walkers but we wouldn't "walk the walk" in this instance.

We sailed on a Holland ship last year and the distance from the gate to the pier was a tad over two miles.
