Daydaes Posted October 26, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 26, 2014 I am thinking of not taking my purse on board. I am looking for a wristlet type to hold my ID and some money. My phone will be in the safe and I don't really want to lug my purse around. Ladies - do you carry a purse on a cruise? If not, what do you have for your ID, etc. Thanks! cruz chic Posted October 26, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 26, 2014 I bring a big purse for the plane then switch to a small purse once on the ship. I couldn't do without it.
bert425 Posted October 26, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 26, 2014 My Mom wears a small "pouch" necklace that she tucks under her shirt for Vacations. (it holds emergency money, lipstick, and, I think, her ID) she bought it at Academy and swears by it.
Daisyloo Posted October 26, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 26, 2014 On the ship I use a small cross body purse. It's just big enough to hold my glasses (otherwise I couldn't read a menu), my cruise card and a lipstick.

My phone will be in the safe and I don't really want to lug my purse around. Ladies - do you carry a purse on a cruise? If not, what do you have for your ID, etc. Thanks! I carry my purse when traveling to/from the ship. Once onboard, I put it in the closet until I leave. All my daily (casual) clothes have pockets (for carrying room card, chapstick, Kleenex, etc (don't need cash onboard), and my little point & shoot camera is always on my wrist for those unexpected shots. For fancy nights I bring along a small, sparkly shoulder bag to use (since fancy dresses don't tend to have pockets in them).
nana51 Posted October 26, 2014 #6 Share Posted October 26, 2014 I always use a messenger bag that is small and a cross body. I prefer it to a small wallet type as it leaves my hands free and is very light. Also hard for someone to grab as it crosses the body rather than just hanging on your shoulder. Now it is all I carry everywhere. Makes me keep my purse clean also. :)
Krazy Kruizers Posted October 26, 2014 #7 Share Posted October 26, 2014 I have a big purse for the plane. Then I have small purse for the ship and shore. Besides carrying my ID card and a small card carrier, I also have to carry several medicine holders for DH's and my medications.
mjjden Posted October 26, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 26, 2014 I have a purse that I wear cross body. It is medium size but unzips into a small duffel bag. On the ship I put my wallet in the safe and don't use a purse. When going on shore I take the purse.
sail7seas Posted October 26, 2014 #9 Share Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) I travel with a large purse on the plane but once on the ship I use either a small cross body bag or a wristlet. Just enough for my ID, tissues, lipstick, pen/paper, a small pill box, reading glasses, a credit card and some cash. I am never without a purse. :D Edited October 26, 2014 by sail7seas
HamOp Posted October 26, 2014 #10 Share Posted October 26, 2014 A "fanny pack" perhaps? Works for both genders.

I put my "purse" in a Ziploc bag in my backpack for the plane and excursions. I leave my wallet in the safe once we are on the ship. I do carry a tote bag around the ship with my key card and essentials...like my Kindle or a book. The HAL tote will do for that or I have a decorative one I bought in Turkey for other lines. SilvertoGold Posted October 26, 2014 #14 Share Posted October 26, 2014 I've never used a purse on a cruise. That's what I figure husbands are for. Mine carries my card, hankies, whatever. I do use an old HAL bag (the good kind, not the current type) to carry things like camera, program, crosswords and my journal around the ship. Evenings I use a tiny beaded evening bag I got in Dalian.

Cruiser Andi Posted October 26, 2014 #16 Share Posted October 26, 2014 My bag of choice is made by Bagallini. It has two front pockets. One is perfect for my phone and the other for my camera. Both are essential for port days. It has a removable small wallet that is perfect to carry on board if needed. It is a cross body type bag that I find to be the perfect size. It's not large. I would classify it on the small side. When I'm on board I tend to use a lanyard and have the front desk hole punch my room card to go on it. kakalina Posted October 26, 2014 #17 Share Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) I have a small bag that I carry on the ships for years. I have had it repaired numerous times but I love it so. I keep it in the HAL bag that holds all the other junk I must carry around for some reason. My notebook for journaling, my Kindle for reading, my music, Kleenex, lip gloss, brush, sunglasses. Lady Chew Posted October 26, 2014 #18 Share Posted October 26, 2014 I read an article just this week that fanny packs are making a comeback ... several of the recent shows up in NYC featured models wearing them as part of their overall look. They mentioned recent celebs wearing them as well, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew McConaghuay (I have no idea how to spell his name!) Couple of other big names as well, but I can't remember exactly. Of course, their fanny packs were all priced well over what most of us would want to pay for one! But apparently they are starting to be more widely available again. I don't carry a purse on the ship unless my slacks/shorts/whatever has no pockets. Then I use a small cross body purse, or a wristlet in the evening depending on what I'm wearing, that is just big enough for my glasses, lip gloss & key card. And some $$$ if I'm going to the casino. cb at sea Posted October 26, 2014 #19 Share Posted October 26, 2014 I consider the ship to be like a hotel...and I carry a purse (smaller than usual, but still....) there, so I carry it on the ship, too! It's big enough for my comb, lipstick, tissues, and room key. Don't need a wallet, so it can be very small!
sail7seas Posted October 26, 2014 #20 Share Posted October 26, 2014 I really like the Coach wristlets. They are just the right size for me and come in various colors/patterns/solids/materials. :) The first ones I bought came from the Coach store in San Juan. :)

Krazy Kruizers Posted October 26, 2014 #22 Share Posted October 26, 2014 Do people really still use those things? :D :DI thought they werein days gone by. :) We used to have beautiful leather fanny packs that we used for a few years -- but that was many years ago. Gave them to Goodwill -- hope someone has gotten good use of them.

Sharon in AZ Posted October 26, 2014 #24 Share Posted October 26, 2014 I do what many have suggested, take a large bag to travel to and from the ship plus excursions. Then I have my onboard purses.....very small with a long strap that I can put on my shoulder or across my body. They are just big enough to hold my room card, a few tissues, some lip balm, a small lotion, small powder compact with a mirror. One is black, one is biege. I use them day and night on board the ship. Formal nights I carry a more sparkly bag.
Cruiser Andi Posted October 26, 2014 #25 Share Posted October 26, 2014 That looks bigger and heavier than my tiny black "knit" purse. It's made out of nylon (I believe). It's super light. That's one of the reasons I love it so much.
