New BOGOHO + Wow sale

What am I doing wrong? The half off discount isn't showing up when I go through a mock booking on anything I try.

 

 

You have to go all the way through the booking process to the point where you select a cabin, then pull up the pricing screen to see the discounts.

I just looked at a couple of cruises we have booked, and I noticed the half-off was missing also. When I clicked on "View Summary of Charges", I see a large discount for each person. I'm guessing it's either a Residence or Senior discount that comes out better than using the half-off promo. If I remember correctly, the half-off promo cannot be combined with any special rates.

Same when looking at my booking. Ive got a senior discount because of my mother. If you check the senior rate, you get that discount instead of the BOGOHO rate. Right now, thats comes out 5.50 less per person than not checking the senior rate and going with the BOGOHO rate for my particular sailing.

Just booked the Oasis for March 26, '16 (week following Easter) and did not realize that there was a residency discount of $400 per and did better than the half-price sale for a C1 cabin. Not as good as the May sale, but acceptable.

Booked on a Dec. 14 sailing on a balcony cabin and only had $75 OBC. Called the travel agent and paid $50 more for the current balcony cabin price and got the $200 credit. Even with paying an extra $50 we come out ahead with $75 more OBC! Really happy about that as I thought the originaly $75 was kind of measly.

What my husband is most interested in is the reduced Deposit (looking for some better cash flow in the present since the cruise is more than a year out). Will they refund 1/2 of our deposit? Or can we cancel and rebook? If we cancel, how soon do we see the deposit credited to our account? We cancelled on Oceania a few years ago and didn't see the credit for 30 days. If RCCI has the same type of policy then it wouldn't help the cash flow...

Royal typically refunds deposits within 5 to 10 business days.

Give them a call. I don't know if they would refund half the deposit or not. If you cancel and re-book you will be charged today's rate.

Have a cruise booked for April 2015, decided to call to see if this sale would get us anything. Our cruise price went down $200 and our OBC went up $200!!! Very Happy!

I tried to get the increase on the OBC but i was told i would have to rebook at the higher fare then when i booked before the first BOGOHO and got the big price drop so i would have to pay an additional $650 to get a $200 OBC i passed on that lol.

I saw the new promo, but thought "Eh, why bother?" I thought I would have to cancel my current booking, wait for the refund and then re-book. (Money is tight through Feb.)

 

Well, after reading this thread, I decided to give them a call. Whaddaya know? I'm $200 "richer," and the Broncos managed to score a touchdown. SWEEEEETTTT :cool:

Hi fellow Cruisers: Just booked a the five day 4-25-15 Brilliance in a D2 cabin. We got the Vow to Wow shipboard credit of $200.00 from Royal , $50.00 TA onboard credit, paid gratuities. Wasn't able to combine Diamond bal discount, but as only 5 day, and within 6 months, discount was reduced. the $200. obc was a no brainer

I called and was about to get the on board credit (in process), then I hear "wait." Apparently the cruise price went up mid-booking for exactly an extra $200 and she had to ask permission to get my old price without OBC. Sounded pretty suspicious, but I let it go.

I was onboard when this new promo BOGOHO started last week.

 

I had my eye on a cruise before I boarded for a 2/1/15 sailing on Adventure out of San Juan and recorded the prices of approx $500 per person for $1000 in fare for two. (I don't have the specific amount but you'll get what I mean in a sec.)

 

When the sale started I checked on board through the RC website and guess what? Besides a couple of bucks of OBC, the price was really no different then when I sailed. During the cost break down the $500 dollar price rose to a "standard" rate and when it was all said and done to cost was the same as it was before the sale started.

 

So in this case instead of paying 500 + 250 cruise fare and getting a few bucks OBC you were still paying the $1000 and getting a small credit instead of saving at least $250 in fare and getting OBC.... Very disappointed about what feels like a a bait and switch.

 

When I pointed it out the Loyalty ambassador on board he kinda smirked and had nothing to say of note...

I could give up my balcony discount on our upcoming EX cruise and get $300 OBC. (booked a JS) The price of our cruise has goneup however, so the net effect would be it would cost me $375 more but I would get the $300 OBC so net would be a $75 gain.

 

Can't spend all that OBC so would have to take it out at the casino. Seems like a lot of work for not much gain:rolleyes:

You are correct, Royal's website does not identify the type of discount being applied. You have to play games, like doing the mock booking checking and un-checking the various selections, like residency, senior, etc. You also have to try logged in and not logged in to see the effect of any balcony or other C&A discount. They are really into the obfuscation thing these days.

I'm guessing that even though I did not select the residency, by logging in it picked up the state resident from my profile.

I agree, most likely it picked up the other (wish there was a name for this) C&A discount that used to be called Savings Certificates.

I have never been successful with the BOGO sales, it annoys my that they jack up the prices and then give one half off!

It has changed again today. There is a little bit of extra OBC if you book or re-book cruises from 1/1 - 3/31/15 by 12/10.

 

Our price is the same but we already got the extra OBC when they offered it Cyber Monday

During one of the previous BOGOHO + Wow Sale combinations (1/2 deposit + OBC), I booked a cruise for 2016.

 

With the new BOGOHO + WOW sale that started today, the cruise is the same price (for my cabin category) but the OBC has increased.

 

My understanding is these things are officially for new bookings only but they usually will re-price with the current sale.

 

Is there any negative to calling and trying to get the increased OBC? We don't usually spend a lot on board, although it might be nice to be able to splurge on things we might not otherwise. Since the cruise is so far off, I am hoping the actual price comes down, even without OBC. In the long run, I could wind up getting repriced during a later sale anyway.
