Come Sail a Way with us LIVE as the Westerdam meets the Sail a Way Gang

Yesterday, Puerto Calderas was oppressively hot. So the day was very tiring, if interesting. We did a lot on our tour, organized by Kazu. We were joined, unexpectedly, by a young German couple from the ship. They had been booked on an NCL cruise which was cancelled (I think 1of4mentioned it earlier), and they had organized a tour for 2 days from now, but when they showed up on our ship, the guide included them in one of our vans. They couldn't understand how we were all friends!

Laundry has been excellent on the ship. We have been sending out a bag when we leave for dinner, around 7, and it is back in the morning, so around 14 hours, if that.

We are looking forward to the Master Chef's dinner tonight. Hopefully, I won't be worn out by our tour to Leon today.

We enjoy reading about all you adventures on this cruise & the great pictures. Brings back great memories from our Panama cruise. Sounds like you have a great roll call group. Enjoy the rest of your cruise.

You all have been talking about the horrid heat and humidity. Would a person with breathing problems/asthma have problems breathing in it? I have a friend going through in a month and she wonders if she should bring her breathing machine. She normally doesn't need it, even to climb a hill.

Thanks Kazu for the menu and can't wait for the food porn.

Just to keep you sail away nuts up to date. We're watching the Zaandam today leaving PE to go into dry dock and the Ryndam leaving Tampa for the last time under the Hal flags. Very sad day.

We were at Panama Canal and Costa Rica in April (years ago) and never before experienced such humidity. If your friend has a breathing machine, I think she should bring it Just In Case. Maybe she won't need it but better to have it than not if it is needed.

I had no breathing/health issues at the time and the heat exhausted me.

We opted not to go ashore today and quite happy to be on board in the air conditioning! The temp outide is 95F.

To the question about those with respiratory problems - it can be taxing but a/c on board and on buses or vans makes it bearable. My husband is coping OK with it.

Thank you Lizzie, I'll tell her. She didn't want to pack the machine if she didn't have to. She is usually ok with an inhaler.

Hope the a/c in her cabin and around the ship is operating well.

It's a great cruise. Enjoy.

It was 102 in Corinto when we were there last week --- thank heavens for A/C on the busses. The ship was hit and miss.

It was really, really hot in Leon today. Like a blast furnace! I was using my umbrella as a parasol, and a very red-faced tourist sitting on the steps of the Cathedral offered me $1,000 for it. I took it as a joke, but it certainly made a difference walking in the sun. We Canadians are used to cooler weather.

More of the same tomorrow, I imagine. The tours that Kazu organized have been interesting, and the guides all speak good English and are knowledgeable. They don't have any control over the weather, unfortunately!

Have to go now and prepare for another evening of good food, wine and friends.

I have a daughter with asthma, and I agree with Sail that dixiefinn's friend should bring anything she might possibly need, and then hope she won't need it.

Very sad day, watching the Ryndam sail out of Tampa for the very last time under the Hal flags. It was so emotional that I forgot to get snips, but did manage to get one.

And to watch her disappear into the mist was eerily fitting to her leaving us.

I'll be sure to pack an umbrella. Or 2 or 3 if I can make a quick buck[emoji6]

I took some great pics of the dessert at the Captain's dinner but have no idea how to post photos. Will get some help later.. The creation was a masterpiece and looked just way too good to eat.... but I did!

I think sapper1 knows how and if you need the gadget for your ipad, I have one. I had flash and I think they are too bright. happy to help. haven't downloaded them to my ipad yet. got to get ready for Master Chef's table.

sorry to hear about the Ryndam Pathfinder - thanks for keeping us in the loop so to speak.

hmm - all aboard was 4:30 pm and it is now 5:30. Captain has just come on to apologize for the delay. A critically ill person and waiting for the private jet to take them to the United States. Being taken off the ship with medical care so waiting for them to return. Sad. Prayers are with them.

Thank you for your replies. She is going to pack the machine and liquids. As you've said she would rather have it and not use it than wish she did...I love these boards for just that type of information.

I think that is a wise decision. My sis uses a CPAP and having been through the canal even the ship can have issues keeping the ship cooler. Being ashore and on tours can present problems because you can't predict if the vans will be cool enough and the heat outside can be oppressive as others are reporting.

Love the reviews by all who are posting!!

Photos are hugely appreciated and food photos even more so!

(Suggest you all post them to the site that can't be named)

Oh, I like the photos, at least some of them, posted here. I don't access the site that can't be named so would miss all of them.

The medical emergency was a stroke I believe. I was in the Neptune lounge when the daughter made ship to shore call. They are being flown to Florida. The patient was unconscious when transported. Very sad

This was the second medical emergency todaY. A lady went by ambulance for emergency treatment but boarded again later.

Just to let you know, DS has asthma and today was the first day he used his inhalers. A combination of the heat and the smoke from grilling meat in the market set him off. He was fine as soon as he took them. All the heat and humidity didn't affect him until today.

A week tomorrow and I will be joining this fabulous cruise for her next to last leg. Only from San Diego to Vancouver. It was so cheap we couldn't say no. My sister lives in Seattle so I'm combining a visit to her.
