Great post OP - I also think that some take the forum name of Cruise "Critic" to heart. Maybe it's time to repackage this product!!

I have learned SO much from Cruise Critic. I feel like a seasoned cruiser, despite having only 8 cruises under my belt. The tips and tricks of seasoned cruisers has done nothing more than enhance our cruising experience. My DH likes to tease me for my obsession, but when onboard he truly appreciates the knowledge I have.

Yes, it is important to share the negative, but I agree - it's gone a little overboard here.

We have 4 future cruises booked with Celebrity over the next two years. Most of my spare time is spent researching excursions, hotels, things to do in each port, as well as trying to glean as much intel from CC roll calls and general posts. We also have the 123GO free gratuities, OBC, and classic drink package on all 4. I am struggling trying to figure out how to spend the OBC because the classic drink package looks more than sufficient to me (since DW and I don't drink much more than the occasional wine at dinner). Our last two Celebrity cruises on Connie were more than awesome. So I figure when my worst negative is trying to find ways to spend free money, I am living the dream :)

Perhaps you can use some of the OBC to purchase a shore excursion after you are onboard! If all else fails, you can cash it out in the casino for a modest (I think 5%) charge.

Enjoy!

Super loved it when there were times at the pool in the afternoons on the Solstice in June 2011 when the “party band” was going at it with great tunes. This added to the fun and excitement around the pool area of our ship. Just like done by some famous California pop groups, we were hearing “fun, fun, fun” underneath the sun!!:

Those are great memories. Too bad we now have disc jockeys around the pool with no live music.

When did the live band at the pool stop ? They had live music on eclipse january 2015

Just completed a cruise on HAL Eurodam, and we have decided that although we enjoyed the experience of a different cruise line it simply wasn't Celebrity. As far as we're concerned the many positives far outweigh the very few negatives on any Celebrity cruise we have taken.

This is, of course, our personal opinion but I have to agree with original poster about the negativity on CC boards. I use it less and less when planning a cruise these days and used to love it originally.:)

Glad to hear that they still have the live pool music that we enjoyed so much. But, it is possible on some cruises, that the mix of music staff might limit how often that this enjoyable option is offered at pool side. Ask when you get on the ship. When on a ship tour with the orchestra leader traveling with us, I was impressed in talking with him and to learn the range of different music options on the ship, how these staff members are used, etc.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Did a June 7-19, 2011, cruise from Barcelona that had stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik. Dozens of nice visuals with key highlights, tips, comments, etc. We are now at 198,791 views for this live/blog re-cap, including much on wonderful Barcelona. Check these postings and added info at:

I think one of the great things about Cel X is the things people moan about on CC.

Apparently the Bvlgari toiletries in the Suites are too strongly scented! [emoji33]

My first instruction to the butler next month . Get that smelly rubbish out of our bathroom now or else I will dis you on all the surveys and email Miami tonight. [emoji33][emoji33][emoji33]

We normally cruise HAL and are trying Celebrity for the first time in a few weeks on the Reflection. There are several things we like about HAL to include the nice walking decks and included fresh OJ. We don't like the smell of smoke in the casino though. I expect we will like Celebrity but am not sure how it will compare to HAL in our minds.

They have live music around the pool on the Eclipse. Just got off and they had either the band or a steel drum player some days.

I think you have Sue Denning to thank for that. :D

When she's the CD things are done differently!

Sunrises and sunsets are still as memorable and different as they have always been. They are still included in your cruise price with no up charge. :)

The some of the best things are just being out on the seas.

Thanks! You captured my favorite part of cruising, regardless of cruise line.

i am reminded of a time on Summit in 2013. We were to be honored as the most frequent cruisers, (abet, by default, because the #1 frequent cruisers declined). In the pre ceremony interview, the CC Hostess, Ti-Anne, asked me why we keep coming back to Celebrity. I thought for a moment, & said that it just feels like home, which I guess sums up all of the positives for me.

I, for one, absolutely love cruising and Celebrity is just top notch. I must admit, I found out about cruisecritic after my worst cruise experience and just had to vent. Beware of anybody's first post which is a complaint. It is usually based on a compilation of issues that occurred and they need to get it off their chest. Psychology studies have shown (don't ask me to prove this, though) that people are 9 times more likely to complain than say something positive.

With that being said, also rule out threads in which the poster is a known complainer. You can do a search by member and read those reviews. I believe the term used for those that bust into threads just to post something negative is 'Troll'. If I got this right....beware of the trolls.

Take more to heart by those that have thousands of posts with a number of those saying at least something balanced. This I loved, this could use improvement.

Cruising is my life and I have some complaints but many more good things to say than negative statements. It is the best bargain of all for travelling. Where else can you vacation for 1980 prices here in 2015? They really haven't gone up much at all since I first started cruising back then -- although everything else around us is now increased exponentially. So, I always take it with a grain of salt when people talk about all the cuts and being nickel and dimed to death. My first cruise was on Carnival with the girls way back in the early 80's. We got a great deal on an oceanview room for $689 pp for a 1 week cruise. Yes, they did have a midnight buffet -- but I just got off a 10 night cruise on Princess with an oceanview room and it was $779 pp. I think I got a better deal than I did 35 years ago.

So...my POSITIVE thought for this thread.....you just cannot beat cruising and Celebrity is just the best IMHO. I always feel so spoiled with all the white glove service. I also might add, if I have one little event occur, I really try not to let it skew my opinion overall. Credit given where credit is due. :)

They had the band play when we left Miami and at noon on the first sea day. Music by the pool was provided by DJ Tex. There were no steel bands or guitarists by the pool. This was Reflection in February.

On our previous cruises, we had a variety of live music by the pool.

Solstice is a real good ship in the fleet. I wish others were as much fun. Our last cruise was also not so good…

I love Cruise Critic, and it's been a few years since DH and I have been on a cruise, and no offense meant, but the threads seem SO negative. I would like this one to please focus on your positive Celebrity experiences, to help us get that cruise excitement back for our 2017 cruise. I know that it's not all negative, so let's see what y'all have:)

The food's been fine. The entertainment really excellent this past Jan. cruise(Eclipse)Staff is always great. Only issue can be some really self entitled obnoxious pax. But the cruiseline is overall a great deal for the money.

Stop being so negative about our negativity,"I mean come on".Is nothing sacred.

To be fair there has been trend where certain cruise lines have systematically reduced services on their ships to make more money. It is good that people's experiences are shared so that you have an informed choice when you book a cruise. However people's experiences on the exact same cruise can differ, it's just with the cost of cruises on the rise you make the right decision.
