Rare babs135 Posted July 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 12, 2015 This seems to have fallen off the radar. Not good publicity for Royal Caribbean unless there is more to it than we are being told. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-

iheartbda Posted July 12, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 12, 2015 I clicked on the link but it says not found. Keith Try this link. http://www.msn.com/en-au/travel/news/pensioner-kicked-off-cruise-for-jump-ship-comment/ar-AAcDTNJ OP, there' usually more to a story or, at least, another way of looking at things. Cruise lines take suicide very seriously, even joking, since they have no idea if someone really means it.

cruzeluver Posted July 12, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 12, 2015 There has got to be way more to the story. And as for an apology, more than likely not going to happen as it can be considered an admission of fault.
bakersdozen12 Posted July 12, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 12, 2015 Am I supposed to feel sorry for this couple? They threatened to "jump ship" and the cruise line obliged them. Maybe next time they shouldn't say something they don't mean.

OCruisers Posted July 12, 2015 #11 Share Posted July 12, 2015 Moral of the story? Don't say you want off the ship unless you want off the ship. True! Still, the cruise line could probably have handled the situation better.... :( LuLu
Rare BlueRiband Posted July 12, 2015 #12 Share Posted July 12, 2015 Nobody gets put of a ship for a casual comment, and the ship did consult their legal department. I'm going to bet that there was some escalated anger that's not being reported.

dsrdsrdsr Posted July 12, 2015 #17 Share Posted July 12, 2015 Could it be a language problem? In English English, you couldn't interpret a threat to jump ship as a suicide threat. Could you in American English? Or maybe the security team have English as a second language?
Kartgv Posted July 12, 2015 #18 Share Posted July 12, 2015 Could it be a language problem? In English English, you couldn't interpret a threat to jump ship as a suicide threat. Could you in American English? Or maybe the security team have English as a second language? "Jump Ship" vs. "Jump OFF the Ship" - so little difference in words, yet very different in meaning. Who knows which was said and which was heard? We'll never know the actual circumstances. I find the word 'pensioner' in the title rather curious - it has nothing to do with what happened unless it's an attempt to gain more sympathy for the 'victim'. Sometimes the word is used to convey that the person has limited funds to meet living expenses, but that's probably not the case if they can afford a cruise! spookyfudge Posted July 12, 2015 #19 Share Posted July 12, 2015 That's why you can't say"fire" in a movie theater, lines did the right thing for his own safety! Sent from my KFTHWI using Forums mobile app
Velvetwater Posted July 12, 2015 #20 Share Posted July 12, 2015 How bizarre... It reminds me of the incident where a musician joked his violin case 'was a gun ' at an airport. He was not allowed on his flight. Choose your words carefully.

Treven Posted July 12, 2015 #24 Share Posted July 12, 2015 (edited) Sounds like at the airports. You don't make jokes about security or actions that would violated it. Just like you don't yell out a greeting to your long time friend "Jack" in an airport, Hi Jack!! Nor "fire" in a movie theater.
