drinks onboard

Depends. Cruise lines each have their own specific rules about what can/cannot be taken aboard. Somewhere on YOUR cruise line website you will find the answer. Or you can post the question on the forum for your cruise line.

Best check with the Carnival boards. I believe they recently changed the rules for bringing beverages onboard.

Yes. Nothing in bottle. Cans of soda are okay. Carnival sells bottled water for very reasonable price onboard since they no longer allow bottles to be brought aboard, not even plastic bottles.

This. If you could find it you could bring canned water, but since they charge a very reasonable price for bottled water onboard I personally wouldn't go that route (and I think if you buy the water beforehand you save a little, also).
