I am really hoping that someone can help me and I may well have put this on the wrong site but here goes.

We are booked on Celebrity for 2 weeks April 2016 but before we cruise we are in a villa in Cape Coral. I am looking for any ideas of what we can do for a couple of days then we can chill for the rest. We are open to ideas, I really fancy doing some segway which I have found in Sarasota so we don't mind travelling for about 1-2 hrs form Cape Coral.

Any ideas are welcome.

Thanxs

Not exactly where you should be posting, but probably not here. I would be looking on a web travel site like Trip Advisor. They have a list of not only hotels and restaurants, but attractions as well. Am sure there are other sites that can assist as well.

I have family in Cape Coral and Fort Myers. Overall sleepy towns.

To do:

  • Edison and Ford Estate tours
  • Sanibel Island and Captiva, for shelling - recommend lunch or dinner at the Bubble Room there. Its a fun place, AMAZING deserts
  • Shell Factory in North Fort Myers is a tourist trap, but fun to see
  • Head down to Naples, about 45 minutes south, and walk the downtown for lunch or dinners.

Honestly that's all I can come up with LOL. Lived there for 2 years, but moved back to ohio, was too bored, and hot in the summer.

I know there's a couple Cape Coral residents here....maybe they can chime in too.

I agree this is not the right forum, but we spent a week on the west coast last year, and one thing very close to you in the sightseeing family would be the Edison and Ford Winter Estate - fascinating look at two very talented gentlemen. If you want to venture further afield (up to Sarasota) the Ringling compound was also very interesting (estate and museum of the one of the Circus founders).

We also enjoyed going over to Sanibel Island - take the Ding Darling Wildlife preserve drive at LOW tide (you can find charts that tell you when) for up close looks at many birds.

Sarasota is north...and there is currently construction in several spots along the way...I'd save that for another vacation.....

You'll find plenty to do from Naples up to Punta Gorda....maybe they'll have segway some place...there are also some nice gulf of Mexico boat excursions all along that coast, inland river manatee boats, great shopping, restaurants....

To add to this to do list:

Ft Myers had a train dinner ride with a show a few years ago. Not sure if they are still running.

Naples has a pier, past downtown area, you can walk out on and watch people do some fishing off it or watch some dolphins, or rent your own gear there as well I think to try your luck at fishing. A beach is right there. You can sit on the beach and just chill there as well.

Past Naples is Marco Island. A few restaurants for good seafood on it too that will not break the bank.

Heading inland is Immokalee where there is a Seminole Casino Hotel if you want to warm up for the cruise casino nights...:)

Thats 4 more ideas.

Just google ft myers things to do or naples things to do.

Just a heads up, there is a toll to cross the bridge to get to Sanibel/Captiva Island. Think car fees are 6-7 dollars going on. Free coming off. I like the beach area on both sides crossing. You can stop and have a picnic, watch wind surfers, fish, take a dip in the water, etc.

I have done all I listed except the casino. Driven by the place a bunch, but could never find the brake in me car....:)

The dinner train is still going strong ( Fort Myers)and you can always take the short trip down to the Everglades very nice little side trip to see plenty of alligators and wildlife. If you like shopping there's the Gold Coast mall and other places in that area to shop. My son lives in Fort Myers so we are down there quite a bit to see the grandkids.

There's lots to see and do in Fort Myers/Cape Coral Area.

The Edison and Ford Estates are the major tourist attraction. There are daily tours and it is a worthwhile visit.

The first Friday of every month is Art Walk. All of the galleries downtown (now called the River District) are open along with shops, restaurants and clubs. It draws a lot of people and it is a fun event.

The third Friday of the month is Music Walk. Some of the streets are closed and there are groups and individuals that perform. Again, it brings a lot of people downtown. Lots of great restaurants to choose from. You can sit outside and people watch.

Fort Myers has a vibrant arts scene. Florida Repertory Theatre is a regional professional equity theatre. Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, Southwest Florida Symphony, Rauschenberg Gallery, Broadway Palm (dinner theatre), Barbara Mann Performing Arts Hall, Lee County Alliance of the Arts and more all have events and performances.

The Fort Myers Film Festival in 2016 is April 7-10.

The best resource for what to see and do in the area is the Florida Weekly. http://www.floridaweekly.com

I also recommend the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve if you want to see alligators, birds and other wildlife. Billy's Bike Shop on Sanibel rents segways.

The population of the county currently is 600,00+. I've lived here most of my life, there's nothing "sleepy" about our area.
