LAFFNVEGAS "Live" from the Norwegian Jewel

Greetings from McCarren International Airport in Las Vegas. We are on our way to LAX this morning to board the NCL Jewel in San Pedro/Port of Los Angeles. For many years I would do a Live From report and stopped about 2 and a half years ago. I had purchased an unlimited internet plan for the ship so figured I would do one this time.

I am Lisa and my husband Tom are cruising. We have been frequent cruisers for many years with most of our cruises having been with Holland America. But 6 years ago we took our first NCL cruise on the Star and loved it. Since then we have sailed the Pearl, the Dawn and this will be our third time on the Jewel. She has become our home away from home. We always book a Suite and normally book category SF aft suite on deck 10 and always get the same cabin. The same is true fir this cruise although we were last on the Jewel one year ago today sailing out of Houston and that cruise we were in a Haven Suite. While we loved the Haven, especially the bathroom but we so missed our aft facing balcony.

This cruise we are sailing the Mexican Riviera, we are no strangers to this itinerary, we have done it more times than I can count. We mostly cruise to be on the ship, relax, enjoy good food and drinks and for me also go to the spa.

I totally want the relaxation because I have two full time careers so really never have a day off.

They are telling us it is about time to board so I will sign off but I will be back on a few more times today 😉

🚢🚢🚢🚢🚢

Signing off for now.

Thank you for taking us with you. It is nice to see someone else who, after so many journeys, cruises for the ship rather than the destination. That is why we love transatlantics but we also do other itineraries that are repeats for us so we stay aboard ship in port.

I am looking forward to reading about your relaxing days.

I'm so glad someone who loves the spa is going to do a live report from a Jewel class ship! We will be on the Jade in January and I have seen very few pictures of the spa.

Would you please take some pics of the thalassotherapy pool and the rest of the coed area?

Have a fabulous vacation!!

Lisa -

Thanks for doing this! I realize that it takes quite a bit of your personal time to post reviews...especially a live one and I am so grateful that you are willing to do this!

We would love to do an aft Suite but there are 6 of us and while we think we could make everyone fit into an aft suite, NCL thinks otherwise... so we will just follow along with envy.

We are on this same cruise on Jan 31st. This will be our 3rd cruise, 2nd with the kids. We have found that cruising is a true vacation and we are all looking forward to it.

Sweet! I'm doing this cruise in March so I look forward to your review! If you could, could you let me know how difficult it is getting on tenders from the ship and then onto the dock in Cabo? I'm taking my mom with me this time and she has some mobility issues. Nothing too bad but she does use a cane and can't really jump or anything like that.

Thanks!

Good morning [emoji2], we have arrived. We arrived via Super Shuttle and arrived at the terminal at 10:50am. We dropped our luggage off with a stevedore and headed for the very short line to go through security. Checkin was quick painless. Gave our credit card and were escorted over to Hanno our Concierge who gave us our paperwork in regards to our reservations for dinner. We waited for just a few minutes enjoyed some amazing Banana bread and Tom had a chocolate chip cookie. Then at 11:12 they announced they would escort us up to Moderno for lunch.

We have just ordered Tom is of course getting a shrimp cocktail and NY Steak . I am having the shrimp and scallops and a shrimp cocktail. I am trying the Pear Pleasure for a cocktail and Tom ordered a Beer. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1447011813.730846.jpg.ce74e127493bd4a8ef484df4746aa43b.jpg

Our server in Moderno told us the USPH showed up for a surprise inspection today. They usually pinky do this every 6 months and they had one three months ago in Alaska. Hoping for the crew they get 100. Last time they had 98. This crew is so hard working they deserve the best. We watched as they were going to each Hot Tub to Inspect.

Lisa,

Thank you for taking your time and money to do this.

I have always found your posts very helpful, especially when I read your NCL and HAL comparison on the HAL board. We took our first NCL cruise a few months ago - coincidentally on the Jewel - and enjoyed it so much that we are doing the Haven next month on the Epic.

From what I'm reading and seeing, I think we're in for a treat.

Wishing you a fabulous cruise.

Marion

Thank you so much for taking the time for this "live" report. We also got bit by the "suite" bug several years ago. We have booked an owner's suite for the March 13th sailing on the Jewel. Looking forward to any comments and thoughts you might have about your suite experiences.

We have sailed this itinerary several times before and are looking forward to this being a "shipboard" experience cruise.

Thank you again for sharing your cruise with all of us
