"Hurricane" season depends on which ocean, hemisphere, etc. Recognize that severe tropical storms have different geographic monikers for similar events including typhoon and cyclone, as well as hurricane.

"Hurricane season" simply means the waters are warm enough to get a storm to form. if there is NO storm, the weather and seas are the same as any other time. The "season" really doesn't mean a thing to your comfort! It's like saying the "winter season" can bring snow....or the "summer season" can bring humidity....

 

Should a storm form, you will NOT be sailing in it...they will reroute you.

I have cruised the Caribbean (East and West) several times during hurricane season and never encountered a problem. Of course there's no way to predict what may happen during hurricane season but the Captain isn't going to sail through a hurricane.

We've never worried about booking a cruise because of hurricanes although we realize two possibilities; one is that the port of embarkation or disembarkation could change and the other is one or more skipped ports.

Half the year is hurricane season, than immediately after that you have "winter" where the water can be just as choppy. It's something not to be concerned about, because you can never predict when and where it will be.

It is from June first till the end of November. Sailed many times. Several times at peak.

We always had a great weather even in September! But once in August cruise ships on the next 7 days sailings could not return to Fort Lauderdale for another 2 days due to the huge storm.

We have two upcoming cruises booked...June and November. I just wasn't sure when the "season" actually was. And glad to hear they steer around it!

Our only problem with a hurricane was when we lived in Ohio. We were booked to fly to FLL the day before (we are the extra careful "day before" people). Our flights were cancelled due to Wilma hitting FLL. Fortunately, we were able to re-schedule and fly into FLL later the same day. So, I would advise you to have insurance or a plan B to get to the cruise. :) Enjoy planning!

We sailed during Hurricane Allen, which was a Cat 5, and one of the strongest in recorded history. It was our first cruise, and we had 40 foot waves.

 

A couple of rough days, but they steer clear as best they can. Never thought twice about booking other cruises.

Considering there has been at least one hurricane recorded in every month of the year, the answer to when is hurricane season is yes. The most active time of the year is June-November, and the peak is late August through mid-October, but Atlantic storms can form anywhere at any time.

For hurricanes and/or tropical storms in the Caribbean/Bahamas the worst times are mid-August thru October. That does not mean they can't happen earlier or later (June - November).

 

Never good when a hurricane or tropical storm is causing a problem for your embarkation port.
