Rare The-Inside-Cabin Posted January 21, 2016 Author #351 Share Posted January 21, 2016 Pete, Have you heard any rumors of a reinstatement of the Pacific-Asia Grand Voyage? RuthC Posted January 21, 2016 #352 Share Posted January 21, 2016 Have I told you how much I appreciate you mentioning the evening entertainment by name> Well, I do. It is so nice to hear who is still entertaining on HAL, fueling hope I may run into them again. And also to see who else is out there, and what people think of them, so I know who to look for when I'm cruising. I well remember my day in Nuku Hiva. Hot & humid, to be sure, but a delightful visit. I was heading someplace in particular, took a wrong turn, and discovered a really interesting spot. I love those "finds" you never thought of. Rare kazu Posted January 21, 2016 #355 Share Posted January 21, 2016 I could not find anything on iTunes for this (but swear they used to be there) and the link to the HAL site has a broken link for the download. Any thoughts? They have the art tour available on the ships to borrow - all downloaded on the iPods/gadgets (can't remember if it is an iPod or not but I think it is) Memory is short but they are either available at the Front Desk or the Library. Rare The-Inside-Cabin Posted January 22, 2016 Author #362 Share Posted January 22, 2016 Day 17, Sailing toward Avatoru The morning started with a light drizzle and overcast skies as we continue pushing southwest towards Avatoru. Today was the last day for the Polynesian On Location team craft project where we would make a Tahitian Tiare Gardenia Headlei. The team bought fresh flowers in Nuvu Hika and we knew that this already popular event would be ever more popular. We arrived at 8am at the tables were already ½ full and I had no idea when the first person arrived. Note to future cruisers: These Polynesian events are very popular on whatever cruise they may appear and getting there at least 45 minutes early is always appropriate if you want to ensure you get a seat. We were given 14 Tuberos flowers, long lei needles and thread. We had to leave our room cards as a deposit for the needles. Not that they were that valuable, but they wanted to make sure they got them all back and they didn’t end up in the pool. On a previous Hawaii Cruise with this team, they didn’t request room cards for Lei needles so I suspect there was some issue with them over the last year. The project went very fast and we were done threading the flowers in about 5 minutes. Pete Neighbour was the guest for Good Morning Amsterdam and he shared his interesting background with playing the Jazz Clarinet. Many of the performers will reunite for a big variety show tomorrow evening. The-Inside-Cabin ventured to deck 9 for the Basketball shoot out to work on getting more Grand Dollars. The Basketball Shoot was on the courts on Deck 9. There were about 30 people taking part with Gene hosting. You would get $5 for every shot from the free throw line, but would get $500 for a successful shot from half court. Since this is a smaller court, half court isn’t THAT far, so I elected to go for the big bucks. Most people started at the free throw line, but when many saw me get close a few times, others joined in for the half-court shot attempt. Two people were successful from half court and earned $500. I didn’t get anything but it was fun to try. Jodie, the show host, held a Grand Dollar Event - Target Toss - on level 3 in the Atrium. They divided the 60 people or so into two teams who then tried to toss bean bags into a board with 5 holes cut out representing various scores. A member of each team would compete head to head with a member of the opposite team. The team who won the majority of these head to head events would earn $3 for each member of the team. Our team won adding $3 more to my slowly growing pile of dollars – now up to $216. We received a preliminary statement today for the first two weeks of the cruise. We had until 6pm to dispute any charges or they would become final. Future statements will only carry forward the total for this period, not every charge. This makes sense as it would be no fun trying to reconcile your Crow’s Nest drinks in January the night before you get off the ship in May. The Hotel Service Charges will also be applied and given to crew every two weeks, so those who want to adjust the HSC will have to do it now or never. A copy of the letter is on the Blog under Daily Activities. Our final Ukulele Class was at 12:30 where we rehearsed for our big show at 4pm when we would take part in the Polynesian Music Hour. The weather was perfect today by the Sea View pool. The humidity had vanished and the temperature was ideal. The Polynesian Location team performed in the Crow’s nest with a variety of songs and dancing. Our Ukulele class performed our Version of Vini Vini Vana Vana that we have be practicing all week. Loosely translated the song is about lovely dancing Tahitian women. Our guest for dinner tonight was Robbie Howard, from Las Vegas. Robbie is a singer who imitates a wide variety of famous singers past and present and provided the entertainment a few nights back. Robbie provided interesting insight on the business side of producing Las Vegas shows. The theme for the evening was “Flower Shirts and Grass Skirts”. Judy talked me into wearing the grass skirt we brought for the occasion. The only other grass skirt we saw was worn by George, onc of the managers in the Casino. It may be the only time I will ever be seen wearing shorts in the MDR. They had an early show tonight – the Evasons returned for of a ½ pre-dinner show and were amazing as always. The Jack Pack were back at the 10pm show and brought down the house with their youthful energy and tight harmonies. More pictures on the blog at http://www.theinsidecabin.com What a wonderful day.
