Upsell Offer Question

We are sailing on the Crown on Feb. 27 (7 day Mexican Riviera).

I just received an email with an upsell offer of $399 pp to go from a mini suite to a full suite.

As instructed, I called the phone number provided and left a message.

My question is - what have others' experiences been in receiving a call back?

The announcement on the Princess "Inventory Specialist's" voice mail says to leave a message, and that calls will be returned in the order received.

Since we'd definitely like to take this offer, what are the chances I will get a call back saying that yes, suites are still available? I'm super-excited at the possibility of sailing in a suite, especially since this is our first cruise in several years, but I don't want to get my hopes up prematurely, lol.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and/or experiences on this :)

thanks everyone!

I got an email yesterday for an upsell for $179 for an upsell on my upcoming 4 night cruise from a mini to suite. I called and they returned the call within hours. I didn't take the upsell.

I have a 7 night cruise coming up in 6 weeks and if given the upsell from a mini to a suite for $399 PP I wouldn't take it. The perks on Princess for a suite overlap the perks to their elite tier members so $798 for 2 of us to have breakfast in the specialty restaurant just isn't worth it to me but may be to someone else. Although the suite cabin is very nice I find the space and especially the large granite counter space in a mini suite to be more then adequate for the 2 of us.

Hi cruznsnooze (cute name and thanks for replying!), I hear what you're saying, and if we cruised more often I might not have taken the offer. But our last cruise was in 2011, and we are a looong way off from being Elite members. I would have been kicking myself if I didn't go for it!

There's no doubt you'll enjoy it, what's not to like?

Your mini bar is included in your suite and you can ask room service to change it out for 2 coffee cards or a bottle of wine . You can ask them to switch liquor bottles for other liquor bottles if for example you want all vodkas and soft drinks for other soft drinks. Elite already get the mini bar another reason I don't take the upgrade offers.

I always get extra water bottles in my switch so you'll have some for Mexico excursions.

Ringlet, congrats on the upsell to a suite. What a "suite" deal! When you booked your cruise did you book through Princess or a travel agent. Just curious to know if people who book through Princess receive upgrades/upsell offers first.

That is great! We took an upsell ourselves from a mini to an owners suite for our Jan 19th cruise on the Royal. We are elite, but we are very happy and excited. In our opinion, we got a good deal and are looking forward to 10 days in our suite! :) Enjoy your cruise!

My upsell email yesterday.....I booked directly with Princess. If some else used a TA it would be interesting to know if it was a phone call or email to the TA.

We got an upsell on our recent 10 day cruise on the Grand. We received an email from our TA. I called right away and left a message. They called back within about 2 hours. We were able to take advantage of if. $499 per person for 10 days. We loved loved being in the suite. Be sure to take advantage of breakfast in Sabatinis. We ate in the Crown Grille the first night for free. Enjoy your cruise and the suite life!!

We just took a similar upsell on the Caribbean Princess -- $399 for 7 night cruise, upgrade from mini suite to full suite. We are booked with a TA and she called me as soon as she got the offer.

I just looked at Princess' website, and the price for mini-suites are currently selling for $350 MORE than we got our full suite for. So excited!!

Congrats on your upgrade and enjoy!!

We booked directly with Princess via telephone, not the website...just a few days ago, actually (on Monday Jan. 11th). It was a last minute decision!

ok...never mind!! They just called back and we got the owner's suite! I am BEYOND excited, lol

Congrats! Its been hard to go back to a balcony after we had our first suite upgrade offer. Out of the last 3 cruises we booked online, two had offers which we snapped up. I'm hoping for good luck on our upcoming May CA Coastal. Probably wont be as important to us after I get Elite in May, but the extra room and Sabatini's are nice.

Have a great cruise!

Congrats!! That's awesome!! I would have done the upsell as well. :)

How exciting! Not sure what prompts the upsell's but it would be the only way that I would do a full Suite. They are so expensive!! Our next two cruises on booked in a mini suite and I'm super excited (big upgrade from doing insides before!).

Have fun on your trip :)

What prompts upsells is simple. Either Princess has someone who wants the cabin or type of cabin you have when none is available and "pushes" a bit on Princess by letting them know that there won't be a booking if they can't get what they want..or the Princess computer algorithm has reached a point where it says that there will likely be no more bookings for the upgraded cabin type. Since that means Princess won't be able to sell the suite at full price, they will begin a cycle of trying to move customers up and get a bit more money out of them. After all, they've just scored $800 more income on the cruise which is total profit except for the cost of providing the suite perks. And then they will probably start contacting people about purchasing an upgrade to a mini suite..based on whatever category their computer tells them is most likely to purchase such an upgrade.

You get a bargain in the upgrade price AND you will have now tried out the nicer cabin. This means that on your next booking, you might be tempted to book it at full price. Everyone wins.

Thanks, your reply makes total sense.

On our sailing in two weeks, other than full suites which have been sold out for awhile, lots of cabins were showing as available a month out. We are in balcony and got upsell offer to mini (which we did not take), other on roll call in outside reported upsell offers to balcony and those on inside got upsell offer to outside.

Smart way for cruise line to make more money rather than giving free upgrades, and move everyone up and open more lower priced cabins for sale to lure in last minute cruisers.

Yes (upsells) this is the way it seems to be now. More about the $$.

Real upgrades are few and far between. :(
