CruiseCriticAUeditor Posted February 1, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2016 (edited) Evergreen Tours, an offshoot of Scenic, will delay the launch of its next ship (in April) due to a fire in the shipyard. Anyone booked on it? http://www.cruisecritic.com.au/news/news.cfm?ID=6790 Edited February 1, 2016 by CruiseCriticAUeditor

The_Big_M Posted February 2, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 2, 2016 I presume this is a European river cruiser?
Docker123 Posted February 2, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 2, 2016 Might want to amend the thread title to refer to it being under construction. Currently sounds like the Bonfire of the Seas floating around the Barrier Reef, or some such.
Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted February 2, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) Agreed. Just because the company that's it's being built for has a subsidiary company in Australia doesn't make it an Australian cruise ship. Beanb41 Posted February 2, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 2, 2016 When I saw the headline I immediately had a flashback when I was a young sailor on HMNZS Waikato when we had major a fire onboard. It was a frightening and very unpleasant experience
Rare MicCanberra Posted February 2, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 2, 2016 Evergreen suffering another set back is not good news, they are already having a class action against them for a series of cruises (that didn't happen) a few years ago.:(
Rare broberts Posted February 2, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 2, 2016 I presume this is a European river cruiser? Indeed. For those with bookings, http://www.evergreentours.com.au/emeraldbelle/ may offer some additional information.

NSWP Posted February 2, 2016 #11 Share Posted February 2, 2016 One of my pet hates, 'River Boats' being called 'Cruise Ships.' Remotely different in design and operation.
NSWP Posted February 2, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 2, 2016 Bummer for anyone who would was booked on it and has had the cruise cancelled. Evergreen do a lot of charters of river boats, Mic. They will just go and do that. Yes, they have had some bad publicity, they are not the only River Boat Operators who have had such publicity either, not saying Evergreen are a shonky mob, but there are a few out there. Yes, the class action came about as instead of cancelling a few cruises and refunding the money, they put people onto buses and tried to complete the tour and had them stay in some fairly bad hotels along the way.:(

Rare MicCanberra Posted February 2, 2016 #15 Share Posted February 2, 2016 And blamed the river levels Mic, as they do. Exactly, it was a case where they didn't get anything like what they paid for.
The_Big_M Posted February 2, 2016 #16 Share Posted February 2, 2016 Exactly, it was a case where they didn't get anything like what they paid for. If it's the situation from a couple of years ago, there was no way they could get those through due to the floods. It then comes down to whether you want to miss everything entirely having come all that way. Not much you can do about the weather, just like on a cruise ship that can't visit a port because of the storm. The other alternative is just visiting a few ports where the cruiser can dock; not so appealing either.

Not much you can do about the weather, just like on a cruise ship that can't visit a port because of the storm. The other alternative is just visiting a few ports where the cruiser can dock; not so appealing either. Their argument is that they didn't stay on the cruise boat but didn't stay in suitable accommodation, food quality was poor, they spent a lot of time in sub standard buses and missed a lot of the sites and towns they were to visit. They wanted to cancel but couldn't even though the company broke their cruise contract.
