j3000 Posted March 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 26, 2016 What do you do with your checked suitcases when boarding the ship (not your carry-ons)? Locked or unlocked?
cruzsnooze Posted March 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 26, 2016 (edited) Always locked, why put temptation out there when it's an easy security measure. I also keep it locked in my cabin. Edited March 26, 2016 by cruzsnooze
Astro Flyer Posted March 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 26, 2016 What do you do with your checked suitcases when boarding the ship (not your carry-ons)? Locked or unlocked? I lock our suitcases with the same TSA approved locks we use on flights. Cruise lines may not have the keys for these locks but I'd rather go to the naughty room to open my bag if they suspect there's any prohibited items than to tempt a baggage handler. And yes, I know that suitcase zippers are not that difficult to open but hopefully any thief will go to an unlocked bag instead of my locked bag. ;)
hcw80 Posted March 26, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 26, 2016 Anything of value including medicine is always in my carry-on. I normally don't lock, but there is nothing in there except my clothes.

Astro Flyer Posted March 26, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 26, 2016 (edited) As do we. Why tempt fate? Yes...just like burglars who find an unlocked house because it's unnecessary to force their way into it to steal things. Nanaoften Posted March 26, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 26, 2016 I locked mine after i put all the heavy stuff back... (It was too heavy for airplane)! Unfortunately i also put the keys to the car in there... Forgetting i had attached the luggage keys to the car keys ... Not good! Had to have the steward cut the locks off... Which also showed me how safe the locks are... I Don't bother to lock it anymore... I don't carry anything valuable in there...
davekathy Posted March 26, 2016 #9 Share Posted March 26, 2016 Locked with TSA locks. We carry all our medications and all valuables.
WisCruiser2 Posted March 27, 2016 #10 Share Posted March 27, 2016 We always use small zip-ties on our checked luggage, both when flying & at the ship. We put a small nail clipper in one of the outside pockets to unclip them, have never had a problem with it. We do it more to prevent the zippers from accidentally opening, because if someone really wants to get into your luggage, they will...
floridalover5623 Posted March 27, 2016 #11 Share Posted March 27, 2016 Lock it. It won't help but it'll make you feel you did something to protect it. :D
dmdiver Posted March 27, 2016 #12 Share Posted March 27, 2016 Ours is unlocked, but nothing but clothes & toiletries in it. All valuables are in my carryon bag. Most cruises we carry our luggage on anyway. Does Princess allow you to carry on your luggage?

Shoalwater Posted March 27, 2016 #17 Share Posted March 27, 2016 if it's for "security" and to help prevent theft...think again. We use zip ties as someone else suggested to simply keep the zippers from accidentally opening. There's now way I know of to defeat the ballpoint pen! Guest arowe6 Posted March 27, 2016 #19 Share Posted March 27, 2016 I've always kept mine unlocked. If anyone wants some used jcrew clothes (probably stained) then more power to them. Never had an issue. -Andrew :-)
traveling psych nurse Posted March 27, 2016 #20 Share Posted March 27, 2016 I lock it just to keep the zippers from coming open. There is nothing in them that cannot be easily replaced. Meds and keys stay with me.

Nanaoften Posted March 27, 2016 #22 Share Posted March 27, 2016 Wish i would have known about the pen BEFORE i had them cut off the locks! I have learned that if someone wants in they will find a way... :(
rdsqrl Posted March 27, 2016 #23 Share Posted March 27, 2016 Unlocked. Can't be bothered to go buy a lock [hundreds of dollars for a good quality suitcase and they can't throw in a lock? Really?] and nothing I pack in checked bags is irreplaceable.
MJSailors Posted March 27, 2016 #24 Share Posted March 27, 2016 We do not lock our checked bags either for the airport or a cruise ship. Like others, we put valuables in carry on luggage or in my purse. I leave my good jewelry at home. Luckily,we have never had a problem. If someone wants my clothes, fine with me. That would give me an excuse to go shopping!
Cruisin' Chick Posted March 27, 2016 #25 Share Posted March 27, 2016 Anything of value including medicine is always in my carry-on. I normally don't lock, but there is nothing in there except my clothes. Same for us. It's been many years since we've flown anywhere, but for flights we tend to use locks. We put anything of value in our carry ons for cruises.
