Does Royal ever card people in the casino?

Recommended Posts

We are going on an Alaska cruise where the casino age is technically 21. Our party will be my husband and I, each 27, and his two brothers, one 21 and one 20. We don't spend a lot of time in the casino but usually like to swing by and play around at slots or the quarter push machine thing, but we don't want the 20 year old to be left out just because his birthday isn't for a couple months.

On our past two cruises we've never been carded at the casino, so I'm just wondering if they usually or ever do card. I know the drinking age is 21, and they can/do card for that which is fine, I'd just like us to be able to do like a slot pull or hang out at the casino for a bit together as a group.

I've seen people asked for ID.

Aldo know that should the jackpot gods shine their light on your machine, the casino will rewind the video recorders to see exactly who played the machine.

If it was the 20yo, payout will be voided. Switching players before someone comes over won't work

That's an interesting point and totally true.

Won't the 20 yo's set sail card have their age programmed into it??

I can confirm that if you WIN, before they pay out, they will ask to see age ID. (if it isn't 1,000,000% obvious that you are over 21)

I hit a jackpot a few weeks ago on Anthem, before they would give me the money I had to go up to my cabin for my license, and it's been decades since I was 20. For tax purposes everyone needs to show ID.

When I sailed on Indy with my family, 1 nephew was 17 and never carded, the other nephew (brothers) was 22 and he was constantly carded...

There is no rhyme or reason as to when they card someone. But I have not seen them have an issue when underage people where standing beside/behind someone at a table or slot.

WOW.

1. Congratulations on WINNING!

2. Aw, c'mon, they carded YOU because YOU look like you are under 21, Gayle!

I have. They are usually quite strict about ejecting the under-18 bunch, as Retired LEO wrote.

Unless you are of legal gaming age, you won't be allowed to stay in the casino. In Alaska, the legal age is 21. In the Caribbean, it's 18.

If you don't appear to be "of age", you WILL be carded. If you play without being carded, and win something, you will be carded then..and you will forfeit your win.

And to round this out

If you are a US Citizen, any and all winnings are considered Earned Income and are expected to be reported as such on your IRS tax forms whether or not you receive a 1099G or W2G.

Whether you choose to claim these winnings as Earned Income on your tax forms is between you and the IRS.

If you accidentally forget to claim a $1,000 scratch-off lottery ticket win on your 1040, you will receive a nice letter from the IRS requesting taxes on that win. Not sure if the same would happen with a casino win, but I would be afraid to try it.

I also think the limit is $1199. That's why you'll see some progressive machines with a limit just under $1200, which is the reporting threshold.

My older son just turned 18 in February. But he was in the casino with my mom on our Christmas cruise. No one walked up to him and carded him (same with the casino in Atlantis) but I wouldn't want to take the chance that he'll win and you'd end up forfeiting the money.

If the group is in the casino and he's with you, then that's probably not going to result in an issue. But I would keep him from playing.

I was standing next to my 21 year old son who looks about that age. He got carded twice.. once while playing slots and once while playing blackjack.. both times both my father and I were standing playing with him

I'm not saying he will get carded.. but there are soooooooo many things to do on the ship, just work around it.

cruise should be no stress!

We were on the Radiance in Alaska last year when my son was 19. When we were walking thru the casino I saw a "lucky" haha machine so I put some quarters in it and was there about 2 minutes when security came over and carded my son and asked him to leave said no one under 21 was allowed in the casino. I think they have someone watching the cameras and tell the casino security guys right away.
