Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted July 9, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 9, 2016 We just returned from a cruise on the Celebrity Eclipse where we enjoyed the Bistro on 5 at $ 10 per person . Celebrity will replace the Bistro on 5 with Sushi on 5 , an a la carte Japanese Restaurant , on all of their ships . It's menu can be found here : http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=50174226&postcount=67 Ultimately , the people will decide with their money , but what do you think ? FunInTheSun9 Posted July 9, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 9, 2016 (edited) We really enjoyed Sushi on 5 while on the Millennium this past May. We felt that it was the healthiest meal offered on-board, and was priced less than the other specialty restaurants (being a la carte vs $45pp flat fee...we spent about $30pp and we were stuffed). The menu is about 1/2 raw, and the other half is cooked offerings - so it isn't all "raw fish." We have never had sushi/sashimi before, but we enjoyed it so much we went twice! This was our first time sailing on Celebrity, so I can not comment specifically on Bistro on 5, but the new Sushi on 5 was unique for us. We have sailed many times on Disney and RCI, and this was the first time we have encountered a restaurant like this. Hope to go again soon! Olive1950 Posted July 9, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 9, 2016 So, people are going to pay for each piece of sushi, as opposed to a set price for an entire meal?? Really?? Here is my question: In October I will be in one of the PH suites on Infinity. Does this mean that I get to eat here as often as I like, and only pay the gratuity? One of the PH perks in UNLIMITED access to the specialty restaurants. I thought of another question: When we're in port, Luminae is closed for lunch. We were redirected to Bistro on 5 for lunch. What will happen now? Does anybody know?
Chicogirl Posted July 9, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 9, 2016 This is the email I received from shore side concierge a couple days ago. On a separate note, being in a Royal Suite you will have complimentary access to our specialty dining venues, Tuscan Grille, Murano and Silk Harvest, and our new suite dining room Luminae. You will also be able to enjoy Oceanview Café, Aqua Spa Café and Mast Grill complimentary; however, unfortunately, Sushi on Five is at an additional cost. I hope this information helps. Thanks for the quick reply, Chicogirl. I'll remember that as I complete my post-cruise questionnaire. And I won't be patronizing SO5 during my cruise; won't even stroll by it. It will be as if it doesn't exist.
Bo1953 Posted July 9, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 9, 2016 As would naturally happen, seeing that Son5 is NOT included as a 'Perk' either go or not go... let the passengers vote over the next year and see how it goes... If enough of us do not mind paying a'la carte pricing, then so be it.... it stays! bon voyage
upwarduk Posted July 9, 2016 #7 Share Posted July 9, 2016 Bistro on 5 has never been popular with clients when I have passed by. Is Sushi on 5 going to be more popular? I would suggest that they move the Aqua Spa Cafe to that location, as it is always full when I go, I can never get a table.
Rare cruisestitch Posted July 9, 2016 #8 Share Posted July 9, 2016 I will never eat in Bait on Five, I mean Sushi on Five. I usually ate at the Bistro once or twice in a cruise. So I vote no to the Sushi place.
Olive1950 Posted July 9, 2016 #9 Share Posted July 9, 2016 I just saw this on another thread, aptly titled "Sushi on 5." Apparently it is a letter sent to a cruiser who will be sailing in a Royal Suite: Dear XXXXX, Thank you for contacting Celebrity Cruises. We are thrilled you will be sailing with us on the beautiful Celebrity Millennium in September. Sushi on 5 is part of the Royal Suite amenities and is complimentary. If you should have any further questions or have any requests, feel free to contact conciergeshannon@celebrity.com - she is the shoreside concierge for the Celebrity Millennium. DebbieMacG Posted July 9, 2016 #13 Share Posted July 9, 2016 I love Bistro on 5 and always visited on embarkation and couple of times during a cruise, because I don't like sushi I thought I would hate sushi on 5, but I did notice that there were other options on the menu so we decided to try it on embarkation day on the Reflection in May. Its outstanding, absolutely amazing. The BBQ pork ramen is fantastic, the kobe beef slider wonderful. We ate there 6 times during our 21 nights. Its not going to suit everyone but neither did bistro on 5, but even if you don't like sushi you should try it. Also the service is fantastic :)

Rare Bimmer09 Posted July 9, 2016 #15 Share Posted July 9, 2016 I only ate once in Bistro on 5 on my first X cruise and the food was stellar and only surpassed for flavor by a fancy dinner in Murano. For $10 it was a ridiculous steal. I will try the Sushi version on the Reflection in January, even though sushi isn't a reason to salivate for me. I don't dislike it but I don't crave it, ever. I'm amazed that the Bistro wasn't more popular considering the excellence of the things we ate and the low pricing. Norris
Rare Jetswdo Posted July 9, 2016 #16 Share Posted July 9, 2016 I was so looking forward to Alaska, May 2017 on Solstice- I will really miss my favorite embarcation restaurant-- On the last two Celebrity cruises we took, we ate at Bistro 3 times, once for embarkation relaxing lunch- then two other times for lunch. It will be missed for sure. We don't eat any thing raw, I can't even handle the smell of sushi.

Mr&MrsCookie Posted July 9, 2016 #18 Share Posted July 9, 2016 Time will tell if Sushi is more popular then Bistro. Unfortunately(for me) it probably will be. Sushi restaurants around here are always busy. I personally wont be going there as I don't like it whereas I would have been going to Bistro. If you don't like Sushi it really limits the number of places to eat unless you want to pay for the specialty restaurants, something I would have to consider before booking a longer cruise. pjs678 Posted July 10, 2016 #19 Share Posted July 10, 2016 That menu was slightly different on Silhouette. There were a couple more rolls that were available. Sorry I didn't get a picture. We found it to be really good and since we had a bunch of non-refundable OBC, we ate there a lot. It actually works out cheaper than the specialty restaurants. I would challenge any couple to eat $100 worth of food there. We were usually around $55-60 (drinks covered by the premium package). The food quality was very consistent, something that many cruise ship restaurants have an issue with IMO.
NCHPcruiser Posted July 10, 2016 #20 Share Posted July 10, 2016 We are looking forward to trying Sushi on 5 having tried Bistro several times in the past. It was just okay we thought. My husband looked at the new menu a few days ago and is excited. I enjoy a little sushi but don't typically make a meal of it. The menu looks like it has several cooked items so I'll probably be happy, especially after reading one of the previous post. The prices do not seem out of line, assuming the quality is there. The couple we will be traveling with are also looking forward to the change.
TourDeCruise Posted July 10, 2016 #21 Share Posted July 10, 2016 Although we are fans of Bistro on Five, especially for embarkation lunch and when we have an excursion early afternoon and need to eat lunch early, we look forward to trying Sushi on Five. If it has the quality and ambience of Izumi on RCI ships, we will go there multiple times per cruise. We enjoy the opportunity to get healthy and lower calorie options. We do not eat raw fish, however, but will enjoy vegetarian or cooked fish items (or possibly beef or chicken although less likely). We just talked today about how to spend obc on some of our cruises when we are not interested in shore excursions. We mentioned Bistro on Five, but knowing how we enjoy Izumi that we go to often when on RCI ships, I know how we will be spending our extra obc on future X cruises. vivi9909 Posted July 10, 2016 #22 Share Posted July 10, 2016 (edited) For those of you who had the chance to try Suchi on Five, how do their suchies compare with the ones that were previously available (for free) at the Oceanview Cafe around 5h30pm daily? Did they eliminate that offering? Edited July 10, 2016 by vivi9909
BND Posted July 10, 2016 #23 Share Posted July 10, 2016 I just want to know why they think everyone would prefer sushi? I can't eat a lot of what's on the menu (shellfish allergy in particular) and don't like most of the rest. Personally, I think sushi is just a bit trendy and a lot of people like to say they eat it. I wonder what they'll change sushi on 5 to in a few years.

woody14h Posted July 10, 2016 #25 Share Posted July 10, 2016 I think the prices may cause it to be less popular. As the sushi in the Oceanside Cafe was okay and free. Most sushi aficionados have their favorite sushi bars at home and judging by the menu above there seems to be no excitement. I will try it for the ambiance and hope for the best.
