tambam22 Posted August 4, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Can anyone share any particularly memorable MDR dishes -- good or bad? I'm terrible at decision-making, so I'm checking out the menus in advance, and would love some insight into what I should try and what to avoid! Cruising Allure of the Seas on 8/21, but would love to hear from those who've cruised other ships as well since the menus are the same.
Clarea Posted August 4, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Best for me is Rosemary Lamb Shank and Key Lime Pie.
Rare BillOh Posted August 4, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Right now I don't have any particulary memorable choices, but the Mojo Pork Chop and the Lasagna are improved from 5 yeas ago.
Tin can Posted August 4, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Always enjoyed the beef wellington and strangely enough the cold soup starters which you don't see so much over here. .
Merion_Mom Posted August 4, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 4, 2016 There is a dish that I have heard others praise, but I have found to be a giant hunk of salty mess. That's the chicken marsala.
Yorkvillain Posted August 4, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Worst - Lobster Bisque Best - still thinking
pete1681 Posted August 4, 2016 #7 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Rack of lamb! Especially good in coastal kitchen. The MDR lamb shank is good too
voyager70 Posted August 4, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Lamb shank and escargots are my faves. Also love the sugar free desserts!

Awww, really?? I had that scoped out for one of my MDR dinners. Guess I need a backup plan. :)

dd likes to cruise Posted August 4, 2016 #11 Share Posted August 4, 2016 I liked everything. Lobster Tail for sure, and I'm not a real big foodie so don't remember the rest, BUT I LIKED THEM! Oh, Shrimp cocktail also - just ask for 2 since they are small. Never had any problems with our server bringing double appetizers, or double anything for that matters. dd likes to cruise Posted August 4, 2016 #12 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Another comment - hubby doesn't like sauces and he never had problems with asking for the dressings and sauces on the side. Or NO CHEESE when things come with cheese!
ronandannette Posted August 4, 2016 #13 Share Posted August 4, 2016 (edited) Worst would have to be the Lobster Bisque (as has been mentioned). It's so bad even the smell is off-putting. We've not had good luck with grilled steak or anything deep-fried in the MDR. Favourite entrees would be Carved Beef Tenderloin, Garlic Tiger Shrimp, Braised Beef Duo, Roast Turkey and Veal Oscar. I also really like the Vignole Salad, Crab Cake, Arancini, Olive Tepanade and Escargot for starters. Truth be told, all the food is basically fine and there's always something appealing to chose but I haven't really had a spectacular meal in the MDR for quite a while. SPhillips Posted August 4, 2016 #14 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Super basic, but I love the shrimp cocktail and the caesar salad. I honestly can't think of anything that was awful :)
sellwingri Posted August 4, 2016 #15 Share Posted August 4, 2016 I love, love, love the roasted duck! Any beef meals are hit or miss. I heard that they may be bringing back the Vidalia onion tart. If it's true, that would be at The top of my list.

mek Posted August 4, 2016 #17 Share Posted August 4, 2016 There is a dish that I have heard others praise, but I have found to be a giant hunk of salty mess. That's the chicken marsala. Agree - nothing even close to the real thing.
Tin can Posted August 4, 2016 #18 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Agree - nothing even close to the real thing. The only good indian food we have found has been in the windjammer when the chefs have a bit more artistic licence to cook "off script" the proper dishes. . tlatrice Posted August 4, 2016 #21 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Love: Garlic Tiger Shrimp, Mojo Pork Chop, Ceviche, Crab Cakes, Escargot, Cherries Jubilee and the chilled soups (which I'd never had before I started cruising - now I look forward to them) On my first cruise, there was some pasta dish where the shells were supposed to be stuffed with beef but my server told me he didn't think I'd like it and suggested something else. He brought the pasta dish out anyway so I could try it and he was right. I would have been disappointed if I'd gotten it. (We actually saw him again on our 3rd cruise but were too scared to go say hi. My son was like "Do you really think he'd remember us???" LOL!!!) KPaul Posted August 4, 2016 #22 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Love love love the escargot. Mmmmm now I'm dreaming of sopping up the garlic butter with some crusty bread! 121 DTG for me ;) Also love the cold soups as mentioned above. I love to pick items that I wouldn't normally choose at home. There's also a fantastic Grand Marnier soaked cake!
