slyone14 Posted September 9, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2016 So, here is a fun conversation, being a 35 year old male, most of my friends go out and party and go clubbing. I go out on occasions but prefer watching movies and video games with friends. BUt, this is my 6th cruise and when I go cruising I actually do drink quite a bit. (Note, I am NOT saying binge drinking either, lol) and always buy the cheers package and take full advantage of it. Often times I become a social butterfly and you will find me at the club till late hours of the morning. Does anyone else not really drink at home, but does quite a bit while cruising? mbrownferrier Posted September 9, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 9, 2016 I am the same way slyone14. An occasional glass or two of wine or beer with friends but on a cruise I'm totally different. Getting Cheers is an opportunity to try things I normally wouldn't and it helps me be a bit more social! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
bury me at sea Posted September 9, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 9, 2016 I sort of do the opposite. I drink quite a bit of beer at home. On a cruise I find it is generally hot, dehydration is an issue, and I don't want to take an afternoon nap. My last cruise, which was fairly typical, I bought one half-priced bottle of wine the first night at the steakhouse. It lasted me at the rate of one glass per evening through the fifth night at the MDR. Wandered into the piano bar one night and had a Brandy Alexander. Last night of cruise had another one using the free drink coupon. Not anti-drinking, just find I don't want much on a cruise.
vamartha Posted September 9, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 9, 2016 I don't drink in "real life". I drive 110 miles a day round trip to and from work and I've never wanted to risk my license. I'm now the Admin in an exceptionally high volume Sports Bar and am probably the only employee who doesn't have a drink when the day is done! Put me on a Carnival ship and get me a Funship Special immediately! I don't drink enough to warrant the Cheers program, but I do drink mixed drinks every day onboard and cold beers on most beaches! I guess its my time to really relax!
cb at sea Posted September 9, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 9, 2016 I drink every night...not to excess..but I think a buzz is good for you! Nothing wrong with it! On vacation, I might drink more than in everyday life....but I never "over drink"....I've never passed out, or gotten sick or had a hangover. I think I'm good to go! Do what feels right to you! kydems Posted September 9, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 9, 2016 DH and I are the same. Both work in zero tolerance workplace and would not risk our licence by even having 1 drink and driving. If we go out and use public transport we may have a drink or three, but on the cruise ship we certainly make up for abstaining in our normal lives. Bring on the premium package! bubbles1209 Posted September 9, 2016 #9 Share Posted September 9, 2016 That would be me! I don't drink at all until vacation time.......and even then I try not to overdo it. I did, however overdo it once & was passed out right after muster:eek:.....didn't drink again the rest of the week, lol.:p I enjoy it on vacation (not enough to get the the cheers pkg) because driving is not an issue, and letting loose a little is what vacation is for......Lord knows we all need to let loose a little :D
daisys dad Posted September 9, 2016 #10 Share Posted September 9, 2016 I drive a truck for a living and work 5 1/2 days a week and don't drink the day before I go to work,so unless I'm on vacation or a long weekend I don't drink. That being said I do like to drink while on a cruise or at my cabin in the woods ( no driving involved) on our next cruise we decided not to get the cheers package because my wife dose not drink much and we are going to HMC where the package dose not work. and with the free drink party it's not worth it for us
elainmir Posted September 9, 2016 #11 Share Posted September 9, 2016 I'm told constantly how I'm a beer snob..I drink for flavor not to get drunk so I do have many different flavors that I love. I do have 3-4 almost every night. But on the ship I really don't drink unless I go to the casino. Sometimes on an excursion but I like the idea of making it back on board ON TIME :D
Shmoo here Posted September 10, 2016 #12 Share Posted September 10, 2016 Don't drink alcohol normally. On a cruise, I may have one or two drinks. Certainly no overdoing it
Ashland Posted September 10, 2016 #13 Share Posted September 10, 2016 I never drink at home (just don't care for the taste especially wine )....on a cruise 1-2 Mimosa's or Lemon Drop's in the CL/DL per evening is enough for me.
Warm Breezes Posted September 10, 2016 #14 Share Posted September 10, 2016 At home a drink about 1 drink a month. On a ship I drink about 7 drinks in a week. So I guess that is a lot for me :D;):p.
SPacificbound Posted September 10, 2016 #15 Share Posted September 10, 2016 The only time we drink anything with alcohol is on a cruise ship. Now and then we might actually have two or three drinks in a day! :)
OCruisers Posted September 10, 2016 #16 Share Posted September 10, 2016 Sort of related ... my husband only smokes (mostly cigars) on cruises/vacations. Yes, we have our normal cocktails/wine on ships ... same but no more than at home. :)
navybankerteacher Posted September 10, 2016 #17 Share Posted September 10, 2016 At home we drink wine - usually a glass before dinner and perhaps a couple of glasses with dinner, but rarely any mixed drinks. On cruises, however, it is virtually mandatory to have some sort of frou-frou drink (with, of course, a paper parasol) for initial sailaway. Rare Essiesmom Posted September 10, 2016 #18 Share Posted September 10, 2016 We don't like the taste of alcohol but occasionally will have a glass of wine at home. Very occasionally. Several times a year. We are cheap. Most of the time the only drinks we have on a ship are those that are free. EM
gymbomb Posted September 10, 2016 #19 Share Posted September 10, 2016 I am surprised most of your mid 30s friends still go out partying and clubbing a lot. I thought people did that more in their early to mid 20s? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
CruiseBride926 Posted September 10, 2016 #20 Share Posted September 10, 2016 I drink on occasion like a beer or two if we have people over for a barbecue. However on vacation I feel like there's something about having a frozen fruity drink in hand that feels right. And I don't typically even like frozen drinks. Although I'll be turning 30 on our next cruise so I may opt for something a little harder to soften the blow lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
spookwife Posted September 10, 2016 #21 Share Posted September 10, 2016 Totally opposite. At home, I can easily kill a bottle of wine by myself. On a cruise I usually only drink 2-3 in the Concierge/Suite lounge before dinner. I might have a 'just boarded' margarita on embarkation. Never drink during the day poolside or otherwise Sent from my iPad using Forums
preschool teacher Posted September 10, 2016 #22 Share Posted September 10, 2016 I drink more on a cruise..as someone said, it's fun to get a buzz on!!!
Cruisin' Chick Posted September 10, 2016 #23 Share Posted September 10, 2016 I rarely drink at all, and especially not at home or in a restaurant (if my hubby wants a glass of wine with dinner when out, I'm fine with being the designated driver). On our last cruise during the two weeks, the only drinks I had were the freebies. I think the last drinks I've had was a few years ago when I was about to have a procedure on my eyes and I was freaking out. I talked to the nurse there the day before the first procedure (one week on one eye, the next on the other one) and said I could probably use a tranquilizer (which I've never had) but she said the eye doctor doesn't prescribed them. A friend had suggested I have a drink before so I mentioned this to the nurse and she said that's okay (so I had a daiquiri each time -- my hubby was driving anyway). didn't completely calm me down but maybe I would have been worse without them. I did try a few sips of my hubby's "hard lemonade" that he had with our "hotel Thanksgiving dinner" (we were visiting that week with our college daughter). widallas Posted September 10, 2016 #24 Share Posted September 10, 2016 We do like having an occasional glass of wine for me, Crown and DDP for the hubby...more so if we go to a party or have friends over, but only a few. Between working and the busy schedule of teenage boys, we are early to bed and up at 5 most days. On the weekend when we can relax, drinking makes us so relaxed that we just want to go to sleep! On a cruise (or other vacation where we don't have to worry about driving :D) we love getting up early, taking a relaxing nap in the p.m., and having several drinks at dinner and later. It's the one requirement of vacation -- being able to enjoy and let loose a bit!! Our last trip as a family to Roatan, there was not a night that didn't involve rum punch on the balcony of the condo! Still won't do the packages -- between the wine we bring, a night at chef's table and the fact that we have a AI beach day, I don't think we will need it. But we will keep our options open!
