Help Needed Changing Her Mind

Here is the background.

DW and I have done our last 10 cruises in a row on Princess. Six of our ten cruises have been T/A's (4 Western Med and 2 Iceland Norway). I love T/A's and if I could, would do one every year. While I have enjoyed all of our Princess cruises, I really have a yearning to try something different because honestly, I'm getting a little bored with Princess. DW is kinda tired of T/A's so I booked a Princess Panama cruise for next May with her DS and DS's hubby.

Here is my predicament.

With my yearning to try something different, I booked a RS on the Silhouette for the T/A in November of 2017. I figured I could tempt my DW with all the bells and whistles of the RS to get her to give me the go ahead to cancel the Panama cruise so we could sail on the Silhouette. DW is being very resistive to my requests.

Any ideas.....:D:D:D

You definitely need to try Celebrity. We got bored of Princess too. Maybe a shorter cruise on Celebrity to see how she likes it? Of if she's done on TAs look at PC on Celebrity. I was loyal to Princess for years, I'm honestly kicking myself for not switching sooner.

She will be blown away with the accommodations in a Royal Suite and with the dedicated suite lounge and restaurant. They're going to bend over backwards to make your cruise special with service and perks.

I have never sailed Princess, but if they have announcements all during the day, tell her there is only one 10 minute "status" type announcement about 10 a.m. The rest of the time they assume you're an adult and can read the program put on your bed. There is no neon or glitz - just a great sophisticated look to the ship. Very relaxing.

Good to try something new. There are threads on here sometimes that compare the different lines, so look in the archives for those, or start a new one with a title something like "Princess cruiser wants to try Celebrity ?s" and you'll get lots of information.

I think you will be blown away when comparing all the perks to a minibar set up and breakfast at sabatini's

I honestly suggest you do some you tube browsing together...Look at the room, Luminae, Michael's Club....

We love the S Class RS and I am sure you and your wife will too.

We love the unlimited speciality dining, room bar set up, the butler....I could go on and on...

Why not ask your wife to join your post and maybe list her concerns about Celebrity or say what she is scared of missing on Princess. There are loads of people on here who regularly cruise both lines who could either reassure her she would enjoy X or agree with her reluctance if there genuinely is an aspect of Princess which Celebrity can not match or exceed.

I have read many comparative posts re Celebrity and Princess and the only thing Princess seems to regularly win on is having self-laundry! As having your laundry done for you is another RS perk that positive sort of falls flat too!

How about one of the coastal cruises? Infinity runs one-way Pacific Coast trips or the Summit runs a repo from NJ to San Juan in the Fall.

We love the Summit (sailed on her 6 times) and have done two repo cruises on her, but if your wife loves Princess then definitely go with an S class ship.

If she is a Starbucks fan she will love Cafe al Bacio, way better than Princess specialty coffee and do try the special Iced Tea. I actually bought the brewing system online when I got home.

You really can't beat the pampering you get in a Celebrity Suite. I loved the afternoon tea delivered every day. Even though I asked the butler to stop leaving me the cookies I couldn't resist he just kept them coming. Perhaps he noticed that there weren't even crumbs left?

We liked Princess but we love Celebrity.

We got tired of both RCCL and Princess because the "routine" events on both became too routine.

We tired Celebrity and enjoyed doing something different. We did our first Celebrity last year TA BTB after first trying it on a 7 day out of Miami.

We really enjoyed the TA and the Scandinavia following it on the "Sillie".

There were differences. The entertainment staff on Celebrity is much smaller (like 2 + the CD) but every professional and hard working.

There is less trivia and games but the events offered are well done.

The Casino is non smoking which made for better events there.

I really liked the Princess Panama Canal but that was years ago. It was one of my favorite Princess cruise ever. I found the Celebrity TAs better than Princess TAs.

In my opinion Celebrity has better loyalty program than Princess.

Good luck with your wife. Remind her that change is good, it will open her eyes to the best things about each company.

Tell her that there are a lot of people who would be willing to take her place if she does not want to try Celebrity and stay in the Royal Suite. :-)

You both will have a fabulous time. Here is hoping so will realize how lucky she is.

:-) :-)

Keep us posted.

Helen, thanks for steering Bob to my Silhouette review. He may have read it already as I am well known to him and he to me. He just needs the Missus to read it and she'll be hooked on the S Class experience.

Strap her in a chair for a few hours Bob....

She has nothing to lose and a rich experience awaits.

Bob, there is not much any of our friends can say to my wifester that can change her mind, good luck!

Now our background. Our first balcony was on the old Regal Princess in 1992, and it became the benchmark against which all others were graded, wonderful.

We sailed the Ruby in Nov 2012, ( I see you were on her in 2011 ) what a major change to Princess! The MDR was now just ok, the Crown Grill was a real bust even at $20 pp, yuk! Now the balcony dinner was, and still is one of our most memorable meals on a cruise. To be able to watch the wake from the aft we had to be ready to battle past the smoke, yuk again.

Our first Celebrity was in 1994, 5 more by the end of 2000. Life and only a few on RCCL thru 2011 on the Freedom.

2013, 14, and 2015 have all been on one of the Celebrity S-Class ships, which the Silhouette is. With the quality of the on board experience we have to desire to look to book with another line at the present. They are like the Princess of old. The wifester still comments that our 10 days on the Equinox last year was our best cruise in over 25 years.

But alas, if the wifester aint happy, no one is! Right? :D

Is your wife reluctant to cruise in the RS on Silhouette because she would have to give up the Panama Cruise with the family? Are you able to do both? I'm partial to Celebrity but I would love to go on the Panama Cruise with Princess too.

I think that LiveToCruise99 may have found the missing piece... while the RS on the Silhouette is amazing and you are likely to thoroughly enjoy the Celebrity S Class experience - it is another T/A - which it sounds like your wife is tired of... and the Panama Canal cruise includes her sister. If you really want to change her mind, you might have to get her sister on board first (pun-intended) - and perhaps consider another itinerary...

Shorter cruises on any line are different from longer cruises, especially TA.

I have done 5 TAs on Celebrity in AQ and loved every minute of it.

My advice- try to find some videos on youtube about Celebrity cruises and see if your DW will change her mind.

It seems that your wife does not want to give up the Panama canal cruise in May with her family members. If you respect her decision, you might have more luck in convincing her to try the Transatlantic in the fall. However, it appears that financially you have placed yourself in an either/or situation because you booked the Royal Suite. My suggestion is that you book less expensive accommodation on the Transatlantic and see if your wife would then be willing to do both cruises without being worried about the family budget.

Alternatively, see if you can get her to agree to do the Celebrity cruise in 2018 because you have so graciously agreed to do her cruise choice in 2017.

Why not do a Panama Canal cruise on Celebrity? It's on the Infinity which is one of the older Millennium Class ships but it's still a great ship. If you go with a suite, you'll have the dedicated restaurant Luminae as well as access to Aqua Class's Blu if you so desire. Plus, you'll either sail from or return to San Diego so you'll be close to home on one end!

We sailed in a suite on Caribbean Princess in May for their British Isles cruise, after sailing in several Celebrity suites prior to that. It was a great cruise, but Celebrity is head and shoulders ahead in how it treats suite guests. Michael's Club is wonderful for the excellent service and less frantic atmosphere, the concierge there will give you A+ service with reservations and problems, Luminae is much nicer with better food and service than any MDR I have seen, and your butler will serve all your in suite meals as well as attend to other needs ---- we missed all those things on Princess. Please tell your wife you two should at least give Celebrity suite life a try.

My first cruise was with Princess, My husband was already an avid cruiser, mainly with Carnival, but wanted to try something better. That's when I came along and joined the family on Sun Princess... 12 years ago.

As my first cruise I came away with the impression that if that was cruising I was done, my husband and the rest of the family were also disappointed.

2 yeas later I was persuaded to try a Carnival cruise, And I loved it.

Since then I have sailed with, Royal Caribbean, Windstar, Carnival again, Holland America, Seabourn, and Celebrity... Yup quite a range.

My faves in order;

Seabourn

Windstar

HAL / Celeb ... joint

Carnival

Royal Carib

Princess

We loved Celebrity last year and are going back this year on the Eclipse, taking my God daughter and her husband.

I think a suite on Celebrity would be awesome. And sorry I know this is Celebrity message board, but think about the smaller luxury ships, their service is superb and will spoil you.

I hope you can change your wife's mind, But I am biased, I will never go on Princess again, and I changed my ship and Itinerary this year after looking into the Panama canal... just not for me.

Good luck, there's more to cruising than Princess.

:)

Well said. She is probably excited about the cruise with her sister.

If you go with the alternative (she is reluctantly persuaded) then you may have created an impossibly high bar for the alternative to meet.

Is that a complete Canal transit you have booked, or only a Caribbean-side partial? If complete, Celebrity is a real alternative and the incredible Suite benefits on Celebrity will blow both of you away. You could also save some money by booking a Celebrity Suite [rather than a Royal Suite] on Infinity, which is a terrific space for 2 people. But for a partial I would opt for Coral Princess, because she actually sails through the Atlantic locks which Celebrity doesn't do.

I actually thought about that, but honestly the reason I booked the T/A was to sweeten the pot to get her to accept the T/A. There is somewhat positive news as we were discussing our cruise future last night and she just realized that the next two cruises are with her DS. She sheepishly told me she didn't realize both of the next two cruises (check my signature) are with her DS. We also talked about if we did end up going on X next fall would we do a pre-cruise in Rome or Paris. Keeping my fingers crossed.....:):):)
