atmosphere for a Easter cruise

Hello, we are booked on Freedom of the Seas beginning April 15th. We had no idea when making arrangements that this is Easter weekend. For others who cruised over this week in the past, did you see a large number of spring breakers, or primarily families and more children than usual? For our stops in Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, St. Kitts and Haiti, is there a party atmosphere on the islands similar to what occurs in Mexico during this holiday week? Thanks in advance for passing on your observations.

Easter break is typically a peak family cruise time, and shorter cruises typically are college student heavy as well. So, yes, you can expect a large number of families with children and very possibly a number of college students as well. In our experience the ports of call had nothing special taking place because of Easter.

We were on Serenade last March for a cruise that included Easter weekend. Ours was a slightly different experience though in that the trip was 10 nights and not 7, so that may have impacted the number of families who chose that itinerary.

There were a lot of children on board, but we didn't think an overly large number. RCL had a nice display of Easter treats in the Windjammer most of the day (that included colored Easter Eggs!) and the Easter Bunny made an appearance in the Centrum for pictures...children AND adults could participate.

We were in St. Maarten on Good Friday which is a major holiday there; no shops or businesses open (by law) except those right at the pier area or those directly serving the tourist industry.

Most "college kids" are not old enough (or rich enough) to cruise alone. Spring breakers are a non-issue.

Really?? Tell that to the many college aged kids we've sailed with on more than one spring break cruise! ....and 21 is the minimum age to book a stateroom on many cruise lines.

We were on a 3-day cruise on Easter weekend (one last cruise before baby), and it was filled with college kids. The day before Easter was the day in Ensenada. where the drinking age was 18. the next morning was sooooooo quiet (I imagine many of the college kids were praying to the porcelain gods).

the LAUSD (the second biggest school district in the US) always takes off the week leading up to Easter. (even when I was a kid) so if you're taking a cruise on the west coast that week, expect a lot of families.

Perhaps not in your universe. But there are plenty of college age kids who are 21 or over and who can afford (or whose parents can afford) an inside cabin on a shorter cruise.

Because Easter is so late this year, I doubt that college kids will be an issue, though.
