Aus Traveller Posted January 15, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 15, 2017 Does that mean the world is adrift? They had a second anchor, but are now tied up alongside at Hobart while their anchor is retrieved.
Rare MicCanberra Posted January 15, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 15, 2017 They had a second anchor, but are now tied up alongside at Hobart while their anchor is retrieved. My first thought was that the convicts at port Arthur had stolen it.:p

Rare MicCanberra Posted January 15, 2017 #13 Share Posted January 15, 2017 Forward anchor. And that one is much more important then the aft anchor.

newfarmers Posted January 17, 2017 #18 Share Posted January 17, 2017 They are going to be down that way for a while and cruise around the Ross sea We should be passing the Balleny Islands on Thursday. The sun is out but it's very windy. The anchor was retrieved on Sunday night. A salvage tug had located the anchor, and a significant length of chain, but couldn't dislodge the anchor from the bay floor. We sailed from Hobart a little bit early and arrived in the bay off Port Arthur at about 9pm. They re-attached the broken chain to the anchorless chain and successfully retrieved it. We sailed from Port Arthur at close to 12.30am. newfarmers
Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted January 17, 2017 #19 Share Posted January 17, 2017 How has the cruise been, newfarmers? I remember reading your review of one of the other cruises you did on The World and enjoyed it immensely. Interesting to hear about a different style of cruising. :)
Aussieflyer Posted January 17, 2017 #20 Share Posted January 17, 2017 Looking to follow along, but are you also on another board to do with airplanes Newfarmers? (with another name as do I)
newfarmers Posted January 17, 2017 #21 Share Posted January 17, 2017 AusKiwiJJ - we only boarded in Hobart so night two was last night. The ship had a huge drydock during the year - completely gutted one of the main restaurants - so everything looks brand new, but it did before in any case :) I'll be posting a blog on travelpod for this one as well. Correct Aussieflyer :)
Aussieflyer Posted January 17, 2017 #22 Share Posted January 17, 2017 Good one NF. Will enjoy the blog nd reading you TR. It sounds like it will be a fabulous experience. Did you see there is a cruise for those into flying next year?

spirit28 Posted January 17, 2017 #25 Share Posted January 17, 2017 Mate of mine was the Master of the Tug sent to retrieve the anchor. Divers had to locate by feel as chain & anchor sunk elbow deep in the soft mud bottom. Good job to get it back. HMAS Sydney lost its anchor in the Derwent in back in 2015. Must be our pristine waters!!
