BoiiMcFly Posted January 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2017 We are about to book our cruise and this is the cheapest option. Do they pick the best available room in that category or just any randomly assigned room? Also, what are the chances of getting upgraded on an interior stateroom guarantee? This is for the Independence of the Seas.

This is for the Independence of the Seas. The chances of a upgrade are slim to none. You must be happy with the lowest possible grade of cabin in your category. GTY are usually assigned to whatever cabins are left over. If you are saving several hundred dollars and will be happy with anything you get then you will be ok, if the savings are only $25.00 or so it's a big gamble for not much return. You could end up on deck 3 sitting over the anchor chain or thrusters. happy cruising
Sea Hag Posted January 27, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 27, 2017 The last inside cabin we booked was under the buffet galley. They started cooking around 2:00 am, and it was really, really loud. Depending on the ship, this could be what you get. I wouldn't book an inside guarantee unless they were just about giving it away.
sanger727 Posted January 27, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2017 It is the cheapest option, for a reason. No, there's absolutely no reason to think you would get best available at any point. You must be within 6 months of sailing, prior to that guarantees are usually not available or aren't any cheaper than picking a cabin. So during the year the cruise has been open for bookings, people have picked the cabins they wanted. Now people who want to pick their cabins are paying a premium, again to get cabins in preferable locations (not right under or over things that will make slot of noise - ie, theater, night club, anchor mechanism. So by booking a guarantee you are telling the cruise line that you will take whatever is leftover. So, very possibly a cabin in a poor location. You could get lucky if there are a lot of guarantee bookings, so some will be in decent locations; or if someone who booked early gets upgraded that will put their cabin back in the pool. An upgrade is unlikely if you are in a guarantee booking. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Ellusionz Posted January 27, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 27, 2017 (edited) It's great to save the money. If you're prone to be picky or complainy, don't do it. You're just setting yourself up for disappointment. But if you're more happy about saving money and getting to go on a great vacation for cheaper than one of the snobby bastards you will prolly meet on the cruise, it's for you! You're not in the room most the time anyways. Get drunk and pass out, then go out and have fun. Only thing I ever notice about a room is how long it takes to walk there after being at port all day long. cb at sea Posted January 27, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 27, 2017 If you don't care where your cabin is, and you're ok with an inside cabin, it's a HUGE money saver! Go for it!
Freebythesea Posted January 27, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 27, 2017 Our first cruise we opted for a guarantee inside cabin. We ended up with a full OV. Our next two cruises we opted for a guaranteed OV and both times had amazing OV. This time that wasn't an option but when we were booking the room with the TA she asked me to hold. When she returned to my phone call she had booked up an aft, obstructed view balcony for the same price as an OV.. We will be sailing in exactly one month in our first balcony! We have be truly blessed!!!!!!
GUT2407 Posted January 27, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 27, 2017 If you'll be happy with the worst cabin, go for it. If getting that worst cabin is a problem, pick your own. We used to do guarantees, we no more do so location has become very important to us.
davekathy Posted January 27, 2017 #9 Share Posted January 27, 2017 We like to know what's above, below and next to us. So we always book a specific cabin based on location.
Nitemare Posted January 27, 2017 #10 Share Posted January 27, 2017 You might be close to crew cabins so you can get to know how they live!

You will get what is left after the best ones are picked out. This is why you pay less.
