cruizinpooh Posted February 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2017 So, I don't want to call it Movies under the Stars, as that refers it to a different cruise line. However, I noticed on someone's recent Eclipse Review that Movies were being showed in the evening. Is this something new? Something exclusive to the Eclipse? We are on the Transatlantic sailing of the Reflection and are curious if Reflection is also offering this?
fielddreamer Posted February 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2017 As of Dec there was no movies by the sea. They have a movie in a small showroom forward!:)

It appears that other ships will probably get this same venue as they go in for drydocks. Definitely not at the pool and not on Reflection at this point. Rare mom says Posted February 20, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 20, 2017 It's a screen set up by the pool. More like a back yard setup. Yes. Just got off Eclipse yesterday. There was one movie shown by the pool during the cruise, shown with a temporary system that could be quickly set up and taken down. I haven't heard of other ships using this method. Definitely not the same as Movies Under the Stars. BTW, the movie was Dr. Strange.
vtcruising Posted February 20, 2017 #7 Share Posted February 20, 2017 I think we had 3 "Movie Under the Stars" (that's what they were called) at 8 PM poolside on the Eclipse a couple of weeks ago. They showed "Sully", "Dr. Strange" and "Cafe Society". I wanted to go up to check it out, but it turned out to be a bad time. We were either at a show or eating dinner at that time. Not a good way to set itself apart when they start copying what is unique about the other lines. :( Might as well just merge with RCI and do away with the Celebrity brand if they are only going to follow everyone else. I sure hope this MUTS type of entertainment experiment is not a look into the future for Celebrity. Is this a look at what will be "cutting edge" about the new Edge class of ships being revealed in a couple of weeks? I don't think "copying" one (small) additional entertainment option takes away from the Celebrity brand at all. Geez, this has simply been attempted on one ship and only one (or a few) sailings. And, I certainly believe Edge will have its own personality, style, and innovative features...if there's a permanent screen on a public deck for evening movie viewing, I won't think less of the ship or the brand. So you are okay with all cruise lines looking alike, having all the same amenities, being virtual duplicates of each other? I much prefer each cruise line to be distinct from the others, with a unique sets of amenities and style. That way if I want a certain amenity I can go to cruise line "A". If I want a different amenity I can go to cruise line "B". When they all start having the same amenities, then why have different cruise lines? If poolside movies are OK for Celebrity, then why not rock climbing walls, surf riders, water slides? Maybe they should start having hairy chest contests around the pool. :D

All cruise lines have pools. All cruise lines have show rooms. Most cruise lines have casinos. All cruise lines have bars. And the list of similarities goes on. Just because they show a few movies on deck doesn't turn them into RCI or Carnival or whatever. Celebrity sets itself apart with its ambiance, service, and overall quality. A few movies doesn't change that. But if they ever add the hairy chest contests I will be looking elsewhere:p

jelayne Posted February 21, 2017 #20 Share Posted February 21, 2017 Currently on the Infinity which has a Rooftop Terrace on Deck 12. There are loungers, chairs and couches and a big screen TV. They have been showing movies everyday-the same movie runs all day. Glad I didn't book a aft cabin on Deck 11. We are aft on deck 7 and depending on what movie is playing we have heard the sound on our balcony!

Really? Movies have been shown indoors on all cruise lines since...well as far back as I can remember.Showing them outdoors, since most cruises go to warm climates, is natural now that the technology has caught up. Saying that Celebrity is copying a feature such as this is the same as saying they are copying other lines by offering a buffet or bingo. This sort of thing is not something that defines the brand. Sparky333 Posted February 21, 2017 #23 Share Posted February 21, 2017 I'm glad to know about this - I wonder if there's any way to tell which ships it will be on when you're ready to book a cruise because I'd want to avoid it. Just my opinion but that's not something I'd enjoy and especially if I could hear it from my balcony like jelayne mentioned. And having them run all day every day - ugh. I'm not sure why your limits are more important than mine. And yes, if they start with poolside movies in the evening, I have no doubt that it will eventually devolve into movies all day long. Rare hcat Posted February 21, 2017 #25 Share Posted February 21, 2017 They used to have very nice indoor cinemas with free popcorn..not sure if it was Mercury or M class. It was a cozy space showing nice movies and very popular. They eliminated that .. They used to have a very large catalogue of current in room movies on S class. No longer offered. Heard the movies on upper deck are in a windy area and noisy for some balc dwellers...thought these were going on all the ships Movies at the pool anytime not anything we,d like...esp during the daytime pool hrs
