Royal introduces non refundable booking option.

Recommended Posts

I think of a backup cruise as one that you would actually take if Royal cancelled another, i.e. with a preferred stateroom, such as a corner aft. A placeholder is a cruise not intended to be taken, but made to create a booking with OBC to be changed later, no special stateroom chosen.

Both have OBC, but I would think that the backup cruises in GS and better staterooms would decline with the new NRD policy.

In both cases you mention above, doesn't it remove the cabins from further booking?

What about booking a higher level cabin to get bigger OBC and later changing/down grading to a less expensive option. You think the new NRD will prevent this?

Correct, that's why I'd rather see them offer the Next Cruise certificate with the same OBC as booking specific cruises, the way it used to be.

Don't know about that yet. Waiting for Ellen to test that.:D

How does it work when you cancel and rebook under the same booking #? Is that considered a "cancellation" or do you get to keep your deposit because you keep the same booking #? We cancelled our Alaska cruise for this summer and rebooked it for a NE/Canada cruise. I noticed we kept the same booking #. I have actually done that with a couple of cruises. I have never just cancelled and gotten a refund. I just transfer it to a new booking.

How would the new rules apply to that situation?

You didn't cancel, you just "changed" the booking. You could do the same under an NRD booking, except you would have to pay $100 per person change fee.

ahhhh so the $100 per change fee is new. I didn't realize that part. Thank you Bob.

Well I think I understand the non-refundable deposit however, I do have a question. A few days ago I pushed my sailing out for another year. I had booked with a next cruise certificate which gave me a $100 on board credit. The new booking was under the non-refundable program. I received a $100 credit for going the non-refundable route but my TA says I lost my $100 OBC from the next cruise certificate because I made this change after July 1st. Does this seem to make sense or am I being told misinformation?

Sounds like misinformation to me. You should now have $200 OBC. if you made the booking on board.

All we can do is play the cards Royal deals us.

If you are having problems getting a JS on MJ....I suggest booking early as possible to beat demand.

Or.....waiting a few days before final payment and pick up the scraps.

The JS's aren't always gone quickly in the summer. On Sunday, 7/9, there were 21 JS's for the 4 night 7/24 Majesty sailing.

On Tuesday early morning, there were 17. I was thinking about booking when I got home late Tuesday afternoon, the ship was sold out. I don't know how it happened so quickly, but it did.

The Enchantment same cruise has 17 JS's right now.

I only want an inside, but since I can't get my 150% single supplement, I probably won't go. I'm hoping it goes down. If not, I'll wait until September for my free casino cruise.

Isn't this past final payment (2017)? Start looking around March/April for Summer 3 nights on MJ for all Suites. Some of us can't plan a year out in advance, but when we know schedules, we would like to be able to book them and reserve our time off.

I like this idea somewhat especially when I hear many hold multiple rooms:cruises and then just continually cancel. We always take our cruise. Booked on the ship to get low deposits and obc but had to move out due to change of plans or better pricing. But to hold multiple cruises and then cancel doesn't benefit other travelers.

But it benefits them, or it used to. ;)

Is that any different from booking 2 cruises and then taking whichever one is priced the best at final payment time?

Or booking cruises that are most likely to get re-deployed.;p
