moondoggie Posted July 9, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 9, 2017 Do any smaller Greek travel companies/cruise lines offer 5-7 day cruises just of the islands? Don't need air, just cruise. All suggestions welcomed--thank you!

navybankerteacher Posted July 9, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 9, 2017 If you really want to see the islands, and have a "local" experience, you might consider staying a day or so on each of several islands, getting from one to the other on one of the many inexpensive ferries. It would take a fair amount of research/homework in advance: booking where to stay on the islands, as well as the ferry trips -- but worth it: you really get to "see" the islands in the evenings, when the mobs of cruise passengers are not crowding them . zqvol Posted July 9, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 9, 2017 I would pick a few islands and spend a couple of days on each and use the ferry for transport. Often the ferry travels at night which gives you plenty of time to explore the islands.

zqvol Posted July 9, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 9, 2017 When planning keep in mind that Easter next year in Greece is celebrated on April 8. It is a huge celebration and lots of things are closed Thursday - Monday of that weekend.
jocap Posted July 9, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 9, 2017 As mentioned, Celestyal cruises, from Louis cruise of Cyprus. They visit small islands which large ships cannot manage.
iancal Posted July 9, 2017 #9 Share Posted July 9, 2017 We think that the very best way to experience the Greek islands is on your own, at your pace, by using the local ferry systems, Then do some day sailing trips from the islands that you choose to stop at. Keep in mind that the ferries generally run on a route encompassing certain island groups. Last time we did a car rental for Peloponnese, dropped the car and started in Pireaus. Worked our way down to Crete. It was wonderful. Far better than any of the experience that we had on our four Med cruises. Anytime after Greek Easter, forget at mid June-Mid September. Too hot, too crowded. Greece, and the Greek people are wonderful. We did the same type of trip for Croatia. But...pack light. Carry on is perfect.
